Provenance is the best! I have been hooked since the first time I got a bar of soap here, and love how they chance the soaps with the seasons, but still have the tried and true all year long. My favorites (apologies for not knowing the exact names) are coffee, honeysuckle, almond, peppermint, and and honey oat. They're basically like an ice cream shop for your skin. Quickly, I was swept back into a memory or a Paris soap shop j was in years ago. Beautiful packaging a wide variety of smells and types of soaps for your need. My favorite is the Shea and Jojoba but I also love the lavender goat milk and rosemary mint! The sugar scrubs are great and when finished leaves nice moisture behind. What a wonderful shop! The layout is easy to understand, their smelling jars are straight forward, the aesthetic is relaxing, and the whole staff is super friendly. I love their bath bombs so much here, and their soaps all smell amazing but I've never tried those because I get weird about bars of soap. They have a variety of other bath/soap products, but I love the size and fizz of the bath bombs the most out of everything and the price point is great. Onto the scents, they have a great range that's appealing to everyone on the spectrum, from earthy and botanical smells to fruity and sweet smells. Really amazing bright smell to them & pretty gender neutrally delicious. I really love this store. I am kind of a soap addict so that's probably why. Everything about it is so clean, fresh, and well laid out. The only thing I would suggest is having a way for customers to try the sugar scrubs and maybe providing some type of samples because $15 is a lot of dough to spend on a really big jar of scrub that you may or may not end up plowing through. Or offer smaller sizes? But I realize they're a small biz so all of that costs money for packaging and whatnot. Carolyn was fun to talk to, and I am glad she was there because I could share my passion of soap with her and have a conversation about what it's like to be a small business on Main street--something I had been considering doing myself! (And still am, sort of, as soon as I make more money at my day job first!) ;) I ended up purchasing the chocolate cake soap. It was hard to smell through the plastic wrap but I am sure if I had asked, she would have opened one up for me to smell. Having them sitting around unwrapped for people to smell is a good idea but I realize that soap tends to lose it's scent after a while of being exposed to the air--especially homemade soap using fresh ingredients and minimal preservatives. This happened frequently when I worked at LUSH. I really enjoy using the soap and I love to just pick it up and smell it everytime I go in my bathroom. Great locally owned store on historic Main Street St. Charles. My wife and I came here for the soaps. She was looking for "truly" natural soaps and washes and Provenance Soapworks delivered and did not disappoint. We were greeted by the owner, who was friendly and super knowledgeable on her products she produced (which are on site) and the products that aren't. Candle's I believe? The body scrubs were really interesting, and the bath bombs were really intriguing. I wish I could have really explored the store more, but my wife was so passionate about looking through I held back and attended to my monkey of a toddler and 2 month old. There were so many great smelling products to choose from, my wife ended purchasing a sampler pack. I thought this was very helpful and convenient for those of us who don't know how to make up our minds...wife ;) You can pick up to 5 slivers of soaps and I believe you receive one more "the sample of the day". It really worked out, because a month later we came back and knew exactly what we wanted and left with the whipped goats milk, and oat and honey bars. I remember asking the owner if they will at some point have liquid soaps. She said they were working on something but that it was difficult to determine those ingredients such as the friendly ingredients we love in the bars. I hope that comes to fruition someday...that would be awesome. I'm a lazy man I guess.... Support this store! Plus there's a lot of good eats and drinks nearby. read more

Prepare your olfactories for an assault! So much so, I got a sneeze attack. They can't help it. It's a stinky store. You get used to it. But the wares are astounding. Things I've never seen before. Lip balms, bath bombs, body butter, creams, soap sticks and soap slabs, pumice-type lotions for the hands and feet (probably too gritty for a facial). Many other skin helpers. All in different fragrances. And they've got a testing station for the pumice lotion, so you can see how it works on your hands!! We must remember the skin is our largest organ, so we have to take care of it! read more

What a cute shop! I stopped in during Festival of the Little Hills and was happy it was open as I'd had it bookmarked. It is a cute little shop with a front room and a back room. They have lots of soaps in different scents. I like that the scents are clear.. I know some places think up cutesy names for things that make me wonder what it actually is made with. I prefer it clearly marked! I bought a bar that is ocean breeze, and it smells like that. Very yummy. I like that they use natural ingredients, and it's also cool that there is a sign that tells you what they are making at that moment. They have some other products, like bath bombs and lip stuff as well. I would've liked a little more assistance on where things are and background on the products. It was a crazy day though. Provenance offers a washing station where you can test their products out, and you can even buy samples before committing to a whole bar. I bought 5 samples to test out. I'm so happy I did because I wanted to see if the goat's milk soap was too strong on my kid's skin. Which it was not! The soap left my 8 year old, 2 year old even my 1 month old's skin feeling silky smooth, smelling fresh and most importantly chemical free! Success! I will never EVER buy soap anywhere else! This is a quality shop, feels luxe when you walk in. And the products are soooo good. They feel good and smell good. Lipgloss isn't too sticky, lotion isn't greasy, etc. Just lovely products that will be standout gifts. I will say I was having a dry/itchy leg situation with the weather changing...I got their Lavender & Shea Whipped Body Butter just because I loooooove lavender. I put modest amounts on my legs at bedtime just because it's a nice/relaxing scent at bedtime (not intentionally for the itching)...and it honestly cured my dry itchy skin after a couple nights of continuous use. My daughter is obsessed with their bath bombs and won't take a bath without them. i always have to stop at this store if I'm on main street but I recently had some soap delivered to my home. The packaging was very artsy and cute, it would make a great gift. My favorite soap is the jasmine and shea butter but this time I also tried the body butter. I was a little disappointed in the size but soon realize a very little goes a long way and so softening to the skin and the smell is beautiful and mild just like all their soaps. They also enclosed multiple sample soaps which made the cost of shipping worthwhile and I love being able to sample a wide variety of soaps. read more

Charming shop with handmade soaps that are absolutely wonderful. The owners are a delightful young couple that were very welcoming to everyone that walked in their shop. I purchased three bars of soap and have been extremely pleased with the quality and aroma. The soap makes a creamy lather than has really helped with dry skin that comes with the colder temperatures. Many scents to choose from with discounts if you buy three. The shop smells good when you walk in; however, if you have sensitive sinuses, it might take you a minute to adjust. I loved it!
