What follows pertains to the Bend College Hunks franchise. It is hopefully not typical of all…read morebranches. Having had a reasonably positive experience with junk removal (one time), I accepted an estimate from College Hunks to move my possessions from Bend to Corvallis, OR. Prior to the move I had already boxed 90% of all household items and pre-moved fragile and expensive items. For the most part only clothing items and furniture needed move prep. Since I was simultaneously loading and (later) unloading miscellaneous items into a rental cargo van, I was not able to oversee the movers full time. I was also not able to inspect every item prior to their departure at the destination. It was only some hours later when I started rearranging items to make space that I discovered a floor lamp had been damaged. This lamp is metal and cantilevered and requires a heavy base weight for stability. Almost the entire weight (a type of mortar with a plastic bottom facia) was missing (see image). A few bits of plastic littered the floor under the lamp. This amount of damage debris could not reasonably have gone unnoticed whether it happened during loading, in transit, or while unpacking. The lamp was unstable even with the cantilever arm folded against its support. There was no mention of this damage by the move crew or the foreman. I see this as dishonest. I gave the movers a tip before their departure. Big mistake. I suggest you unpack and inspect your belongings before making any judgements on tipping. You can always provide one later. I promptly contacted College Hunks to notify them of the damage (I had opted for the more expensive "replacement" insurance). The process was not easy. Calls were seldom picked up or returned and most communication was via email. Eventually, I provided several images to support my damage claim. When there was no follow up I tried calling again and at some point reached Morgan Parker (the owner?). She was unaware any images had been sent so I emailed the images again, this time directly to her. More delays until I was informed that "a check will be sent." What? Several days later a check arrived via USPS with no cover letter explaining the amount, just a blank sheet of paper. In one exchange I had said where the lamp was originally purchased. There is no evidence this store was ever contacted. There were no discussions of the lamp's value or my cost to replace it. How the check amount was arrived at remains a mystery. I have heard nothing from College Hunks since receiving the check. When shopping for a replacement (in function) from the original store, even the lowest cost lamps were more than the check amount. Since receiving the check no calls have been picked up and there has been no response to messages. In desperation I reached out to College Hunks customer service. My inquiry was handled by several separate individuals with no end result. I was informed that each branch is a franchise and managed locally. I was told they would "reach out" to the Bend office, but it's been eight days and still no response. "Certified professionals?" Is it professional to conceal damage? Is it professional to stonewall damage resolution? That's doubtful. Disappointed? Yes. One would think College Hunks would exercise more influence over their franchises if only to protect their brand name. Look carefully at the four star rating. Over twenty percent of the reviews on this site are one star (18 out of 86). Make that 19 out of 86! Caveat emptor.

Jason and his team were phenomenal on my move last week. He and his staff were very professional,…read morepunctual and really worked hard. Jason's many years of experience really showed. They wrapped everything that could possibly be damaged and took extra pains with the boxes with my dishware and breakables. When I unpacked, there was NO DAMAGE to anything. This is the first time (in over 15 moves) that I can say that. Although my move was just across the state (and they generally do much bigger moves than mine), they fit me into their schedule on less than two weeks notice which saved me. They charged a very fair price for their services and the final amount and the estimate given were virtually identical. The move occurred in a howling snow storm and the destination required some gnarly driving conditions, but Jason and his team actually showed up a little early on pickup and delivery. If you are in central Oregon and want to support a local business that takes real pride in service, call Jason. He may take a little while to get back to you because he is on a job but you won't wait long and you will be in the very best of hands.

Today is the 14th and I still haven't heard a thing from them. They may be great movers of your belongings IF they call you back and IF they show up to their appointments. It is the summer and I understand they are very busy but all they needed to do on the 7th when I spoke with them is to tell me that they are scheduled to capacity and could not take on any more clients. The main guy arrived late and the new guy stood around not knowing what to do. The one guy was new, so I get that he did not know what to do, however, the other guy said that he has been with the company for a while. However, we did not know that they would take twice as long and that this would be a training session. We offered to help to make things go faster, however, he said that he did not want us in his way. Very disrespectful. I had antique furniture and explained that to them but the one guy who had been with the company longer, dismissed me and while I am standing right there, he tells the "newbie" to ignore what the customer says and that you just need to pack the truck. When they finally got done, they charged up an extra $450 for the "overage" of time. I told him that was not our fault that you were taking longer because you had to train someone. However, he did not care and told them (the office) to charge our card. We also kept telling them that they needed to hurry up as the other crew that is unloading will be waiting. Well when we finally got going and the other crew was waiting for us so that they could unload, we found several things damaged. I had a box that said "Fragile" was shoved into spots that it should not have been. Precious items that I have had for over 20 years, broken and destroyed. Items that were my late mothers, gone and I can't replace those memories. So, it did not matter if it says fragile. Our kitchen table scrapped/scratched and chunks of it gone. I am not sure what they were doing, but we had to be a new table as this one was destroyed. Even though this crew was better and more respectful, when they were moving things into the home, they hit the walls and put gauges in the wall. So, now we had to repair the wall. They also allowed us to help unload the truck too. My antique furniture broken and can't be repaired, fragile items crushed and irreplaceable. So many items are broken due to the carelessness and disregard. I am devastated! We reached out to the owner and nothing. So, do not ever use this company!!!

These folks did a fine job overall either my move, but because they miss-set my expectation on a…read moredelivery date, I'm downgrading my stars for them. I appreciate the initial meeting with their move coordinator and felt like that process was easy and well/communicated. The pricing was about what I expected for my cross-country move. The team that came to pack and load my stuff was awesome and is the main reason I would recommend the company overall. They showed up on time, communicated well, and knew what they were doing. That said, some of my stuff was ridiculously packed...wrapped in layers and layers of paper and then wrapped in packing tape very VERY tightly. And this was for plastic containers of things like moisturizer. Lots of non-fragile things were unnecessarily wrapped up, in my opinion, and this made it tough to get unpacked later. Because I had a cross-country move, I was given a range of delivery dates, which was fine with me. But at some point of the trip I was updated with an actual delivery date, and they missed this. I get that in the big picture of a massive move like this a missed delivery day won't ruin my life. But a lot of planning and expectation gets pretty rattled and quickly kills the excitement of settling in a new city. So for me, this was a HUGE miss on their part. I realize the missed delivery wasn't the fault of the individuals I was working with but could be chalked up to big corporate scheduling to maximize profit. Nonetheless, it's frustrating for me as the consumer. I was also disappointed that I never heard from my move coordinator once I contacted him about the messed up delivery. I felt like I didn't have an advocate and was just at the mercy of whatever. That really sucked, in my opinion. Anyway, I would recommend this company for local moves for sure. For out of state stuff, I don't think my experience would have been all that different t with another shipper, so I think my recommendation is to just ignore all "dates" you get and don't put any plans in place that would require dates to be met. Tough to do sometimes, but I'm afraid the issue isn't solvable.

They did exactly what they said they would do, exactly as they promised to do it and every person we worked with, from management to office staff to the guys doing the heavy lifting were professional and friendly. Given we needed to store furniture and belongings with them for a few months each time, we also had a top notch experience using Prestige for that service as well. All in all, at each step we felt as if our belongings were treated as carefully by the Prestige team as if they were their own. There may be movers who do as good a job as Prestige, but in all our years of experience, we haven't found a mover who does it better.
