THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM****** I was pressured into paying more than I should have when alone with three men in the dark, one of whom had refused to return my apartment key. They acknowledged charging me for extra hours (charging over the estimate is illegal) and promised to issue a refund. Once my check was cleared, they refused the refund and stopped responding. They got nasty with me and retaliated for writing an honest negative review. Be aware that others probably were pressured to give good reviews and take down honest ones that were bad! My experience was the same as Stephanie M (2 years later). The movers intentionally went slow and stood around talking on their phones. I was pressured into hiring 3 men and told it would save me money. I had a very small amount of belongings to move. The plan was one man would load the truck, the other would move stuff back and forth, and the third would wrap my furniture. For the first 45 minutes, all three men were outside with the truck and maybe a dozen boxes. They seemed to be mostly going around together, instead of splitting up. They went outside of the apartment building without a door fob or propping the door which lead to the third guy having to go let them in but then he was gone for a very long time. It ended up that they were all waiting for each other and taking the elevator together. I had next to nothing to move so now I have a bunch of guys standing around. Two men were just standing over me waiting for me to tape up the last box, while the bed frame was still together and almost none of my small amount of furniture was wrapped or moved. The 3 of them spent a ton of time taking the headboard off of my bed frame and I had to argue with them when I found out they still hadn't taken the bed frame apart and were planning to put it into storage as a giant rectangle. We finally finished and they lost my $35 key fob and front door key. The owner called me at this point and blamed me for it taking so long by saying it was because the building had a elevator and I had a few boxes I was finishing. I had reserved the elevator so they had a dedicated elevator. But, they were only taking a few things down at a time. One of the movers seemed to be happy it was an easy, small job and he would casually carry away a small light load and be gone for ages. It took 3 men 3 hours (9 man hours) to move a lightly furnished junior one bedroom apartment. When we got to my storage unit, I pushed them to work efficiently (since I could now watch what they were doing). The one guy refused to listen to how I wanted things placed into the storage unit. He was fairly rough with my couch, which tore a small part of the shrink wrap. At this point he snapped at me. The furniture was placed in a way that was so ineffective. Another of the men had to try to rearrange things. I ended up helping the one mover, while the other man (who I was paying) stood around watching. At some point, someone threw a dusty, dirty tent on top of my expensive, velvet sofa. I am going to have to rearrange the storage unit that I paid them to pack for me. It took them 4 hours (12 man hours) to move a very small amount of stuff into a storage unit that was ten minutes away. They didn't charge me for the time they spent searching for my lost keys, but they also didn't immediately take the cost of the lost keys ($35) off of my bill. I feel that I was unnecessarily upsold a third man ($50/hour more). And, that having too many people on such a small job lead to confusion and me paying for a lot of standing around. This was disappointing because my experience with the woman who answers the phones was so positive. (The photo is of the mostly empty truck fully loaded with my very few items. 3 men spent 4 hours accomplishing that. Notice they are all standing around and one is on the phone.) It has now been a month since Higher Ground Moving assisted me in my transition from my old home to my new location. I am so satisfied I thought I'd take a minute and share my thoughts with anyone that is looking to use a moving company. Ruby, The office manager and scheduler was my first interaction with HGM. And the first thing that impressed me was I felt like I was talking to a friend who had true interest in making my move successful. she was very responsive and quickly helped me alleviate most of my concerns. She helped me with a thorough evaluation of the services that I needed and more importantly wanted. Her evaluation in preparing the quotation was insightful and thorough and helped me identify some things that I thought would be inconsequential, but she pointed out that they were more deserving of additional attention. I decided to hire them to assist me in packing my kitchen in addition to the actual move itself. In the weeks between my initial contact Ruby checked in with me on two or three additional occasions to make sure that I was getting the preparation and attention that I needed to make a successful move. Three days before my move Ruby called again to confirm everything. The day before my move Rachael, the co-owner of the business arrived to help me pack my kitchen. Her experience and professionalism made things go much faster than I had anticipated. In addition her advice, reduce the number of boxes and organize them in such a way that I found later, when we unpacked made things go much more smoothly. On the day of the move, three men arrived precisely on time and expediently started in. I was surprised and very pleased with how thoroughly they prepared my furniture to protect it, and make it efficient to load. Loading the truck was done very quickly but carefully. In less time than I had anticipated, they were ready to transition to the new location. Upon arrival at my new home the team did a very efficient unloading and staging the furniture in my new home. their experience helped my organization into a better and much more comfortable space than my previous abode. These three young men paid attention to detail, and we quickly had completed unloading. And before I knew it, we had completed the transition. Now all I had to do was unpack everything. What I finally decided was to elicit Rachael's assistance in unpacking my kitchen. She adjusted her schedule so that she could come and assist me sooner than I had anticipated. Again, her experience assisted me an organizing my kitchen in a much more efficient layout than I had previously thought of. Before I knew it, we were done. I cannot express my satisfaction with Higher Ground Moving other than to say what I had anticipated to be several days of stress turned out to be much lower stress and concern. The associate I spoke to on the phone was extremely kind and professional. The following morning I had three young men show up at my house on time only after they called me 20 minutes before let me know they were on their way. All three were also extremely kind and professional. They took all precautions to protect my floors. They were safe and efficient and moved the safes exactly where I wanted them. We used High Ground Moving in December for a move from Bend to Redmond. The only glitch was our home was not ready (new construction). We had another moving company lined up, but couldn't adjust schedule to meet our new move out date. Our realtor ((who is amazing) found HGM. They were able to adjust their schedule to move us the next day and just opening up storage. Fast forward eight days (of hotel living) and they moved us into our new home. They were efficient and on time, they moved everything in and didn't disturbed the cats (locked in a bathroom). All the crew were very nice and polite. Best move ever. 4/4/2022 called Ruby at HGM to see if she have two people come and help me move some heavy things onto shelving. No problem. I used Higher Ground Moving to move a few miles within Bend. They worked hard but I'm not sure they worked smart. At the end of the move, we couldn't find any clothes. They had pulled the clothing out of the dressers and packed them in boxes! We ended up buying some clothes (including underwear) until we could find the boxes where the clothes were packed. I've moved several times and other moving companies simply left the clothes inside the dresser. The other consequence was more work while unpacking boxes in order to put clothes back into the dressers. Also, a lot of the boxes they packed were not marked or labeled. We hired this company to move our stuff out of a Storage container and into a U-Haul. After going back-and-forth with Rachel, I told her how ridiculous it was that it cost almost $1000 to unload a storage unit into a U-Haul. They even brought on an extra person which then cost more money to do this job. When I told her I was going to leave a review about how unhappy I was with this and how it took this long and cost that much, she told me how doing this speaks volume for my character as a human being. When we unloaded our uhaul into our house, we used 3 guys from a local shelter and they took less than half the time. Then when we moved again (just recently) I hired 4 high school students to load our uhaul from our house and it again took half the time. So the fact that she claims that is how long it takes and how much it is ($1000!!) and then that I had The audacity to be upset about this outrageous cost and her to then claim how horrible of a person I must be was extremely unprofessional and rude.
