$4/slice is a bit pricey for a plain slice but I must say, Andrea's Pizza is a VERY good slice. This place used to be called Proto's, not sure if there is an owner change or not but it is now called Andrea's Pizza, except there is no woman named Andrea around. PS: I grew up a block away and have never entered this pizzaeria and I am unsure why. It used to look like the $1/slice pizzas on the corner of 4th and 2nd? Anyhow, the pizza here is now pretty good but I just hate that it's $4/plain slice. Although not as thick as Joe's, the sauce is there, and the bread is bubbly and the slice is thinly crunchy. It's rare to see a lot of pizza nowadays with very bubbly pockets. If it does, it could mean that they really took the time to use a good amt of yeast and put in the work to make it properly fermented, which pays off. This store generally draws in a young crowd in its cozy indoors. On a very cold day, it is good to grab a slice. I could see that on a hot day, this coziness can add a bit of challenge if the AC is not running. Overall, I would rate Andrea's pretty high in the neighborhood in comparison to the 3-4 pizzerias nearly. read more

Decent lunch special, 2 slices get a soda for free. Appreciate the service, I was unaware of the lunch special and offered to pay for the drink but he did not take advantage lol. Something possessed me to order chicken bbq even though it's not my favorite, and OMG it was so good. Not greasy, the chicken was not rock hard, the bbq was clearly present but did not take over the pizza. Best bbq chicken pizza ever. Should I convert...? 3.5 stars I was going to be in the area so I wanted to pick up something that wasn't cumbersome to carry back home. I got spaghetti and meatballs based on the great reviews....It could've used a bit of parmesan cheese and a lot more sauce over the meatballs. It was just alright...With all these 5 star reviews, I really expected a lot more. L didn't even like the meatballs. He said it was gamey. I added my own pasta sauce to make it more palatable for him. They're also not soft, fork tender balls which I guess is the basic pizzeria meatball. I'm not saying it was a bad dish, but it's not 5 stars. Portions are smaller than what we're used to since it's in the Village but meatballs are a decent size. Loved this pizza place. Fresh and delicious, and they made my mum's pastrami sandwich fresh, bread baked on site Came back here 3 years later, and it is just as good if not better! I order two slices of pepperoni, and my mum and aunt asked what kind of calzones they have. The man behind the counter said "I can put whatever you want in it." Their pizza may be fine, but their spaghetti is the ABSOLUTE WORST. Beyond awful. Tastes like spaghettios. They should also take it easy on their techno music. A big screen features some demonic head. Overall, everything about this place sucks. read more

Coming out of work, hungry, starving, whatever you wanna call it, sure I was in the mood for some Italian cuisine, but the long walk to little Italy was very long and I was not feeling it. Walked along 2nd avenue in search of something good and cheap (budget food), was not in the mood for waitstaff service plus the long waiting. Found this place right before hitting Houston (on my way to little Italy) and sure enough they had the Penne A la Vodka that I was craving. I ordered Penne ala vodka, with 6 garlic knots, and it came with bread. total was about $13 bucks (pretty good tho). Dish was pretty big, filling actually, well made, well cooked and tasted great (with extra parmesan cheese I added). Overall, I was satisfied with the portion. I am looking forward to coming back here soon when I am around. read more

I'm not sure how Proto's Pizza has four stars. Perhaps the folks visiting Proto's didn't go after 11pm? My crispy chicken slice and broccoli and chicken slice were so incredibly dry. Despite adding my own seasoning, they didn't have a ton of flavor either. There are so many pizza places in NYC, I wouldn't think to give them another try, even if my past visit was on an off night. read more

So far two has only made my list. My current #1 is Proto's Pizza and #2 is Prince Street Pizza. I think I got the chicken quesadilla pizza, I totally forgot but that was bomb af. I also love how this place gave you marinara sauce with the garlic knots too. So far, the other places I went to never gave me anything with it. Not to also mention how nice the owner was. I saw this other customer spill his drink, the owner immediately cleaned it up for him and even gave him another drink for free. I was shook af cause I didn't think nice people like that existed. Extra points for the free soda with two slices between noon and 4:00 pm (M-F). Also kudos for having cans of Brooklyn Lager. I enjoyed the Margherita while hubbie got the pepperoni and sausage. Proto's is no Joe's or Bleecker St, but it's still pretty quality pizza when you're in the mood for a nice cheese or pepperoni or even Buffalo chicken slice. The staff is also pretty nice - they have randomly offered me free rolls and motz sticks before. Definitely not a place I would dine inside, but quick to go. One tip I would give them would be to ring out customers while the pizza is being heated - I personally cannot stand waiting there knowing I could be paying while my pizza is being heated and the employees are texting. I wandered into this lovely little spot last Saturday while wandering my way through the East Village. I was greeted very warmly by Al the friendly Albanian owner of the shop. I decided to try my luck with a slice of soppresata pizza and I'll be damned if it wasn't one of the best slices of pie I've ever had in New York City - and that's saying something. Price was reasonable for a gourmet slice of pizza, service was VERY fast despite it being a bit busy, the place was clean, and Al was very friendly to all customers. Come for a slice after a long night. We drank all the things then traveled further from our homes cuz apparently that's a thing that we do. Tummies were growling and threatening to revolt if more drinks were introduced without food first though so we ended up here. The variety of slices were awesome as was the late night service. Slices were heated quickly and brought to the table. The crust was crispy and cheese melty and delicious. The credit card machine was broken when we went so they were "cash-only" at the moment. Me and my friends go to play soccer once a week 2 blocks from this Pizzeria, and everytime after the game we stop here to get one of the best Sandwiches i've ever had . It wont knock your socks off but is consistently good. The chicken parm sandwich with the homemade bread is the real winner, highly recommend. Pizza is pretty good, I like their 14 inch thin crust the most. Wish it stayed open a bit later. This would be an awesome midnight or later weekend slice spot and feel like they could make a killing with that. My Fiancé and I are self proclaimed pizza connoisseurs. We eat a lot of pizza and we don't discriminate: grandma pie, margarita, pepperoni, white pie, veggie, Sicilian, sausage peppers and onions, meatball, buffalo chicken... you get the point. Protos is easily our favorite neighborhood pizza places. The ingredients are fresh, their meatballs are delicious (which is a huge test for me coming from an Italian family and have eaten many meatballs in my life. Usually restaurant meatballs are a disappointment but Protos passes the test- yum), It's made even better by the friendly owner and staff that we've gotten to know a bit. We live around the corner so even when we're just passing by we get a friendly wave. Always smiling always happy.
