Basically if you go to like Jiffy Lube etc they'll do a basic oil change for a cheap price, but at Apex for a reasonable (slightly higher but I'm telling you it's reasonable/worth it) they actually check all your fluids and tighten everything that needs tightened, my car feels 100 times better than before they worked on it. I'll be coming back to them next month for an inspection and pretty much anything I'll need done from now on. Good guys who really know what they're doing. And quick, too! Highly recommended if you're anywhere near the area.

When the countryman died of engine failure at over 110k miles, in June I purchased another older mini cooper. This is when our relationship changed. It was burning oil at an alarming rate, smoke was coming out of the exhaust, almost always after idling for a lengthy time and sometimes upon starting the car. I had it accessed by Murrysville Auto and a part replaced with the stipulation being that might and might not resolve the issue pointing to possible engine issues. Fair enough. I was glad to have honest information to make the decision. When it still exhibited smoke from the exhaust, I immediately made another appointment to have it reaccessed. This time, instead of Cody (owner) who always had relayed the information to me in the past, his mother, Jerrie (President) gave me info stating no further repairs were needed or recommended, that it was burning oil and the solution offered was for me to simply check the oil EVERY DAY. At this point, I questioned outloud to Jerrie in person if they were trying to tell me they didn't want my business any longer. She assured me that was not the case. We then talked and, with Cody in the conversation, as well, a rebuilt engine was found with a cost of installation being 15k. I agreed, thinking a total engine replacement would fix the issues. Before I could pay, I needed to transfer funds for next business day. In the meantime, a new light came on -- the engine reduced power light. This was a new symptom and my research showed it might mean more than an engine alone. I could not, with this new info, afford to pay 15k and not have a total solution so canceled the order for the engine. Now, Murrysville Auto lets me know the seller of the engine was charging a restock fee of 1600. This restock fee was not divulged to me on my paperwork which is unlawful and non-binding in PA. To just be done with the transaction and move on, I agreed to pay 1600. But then, Cody tells me it is actually more than 1600. I stand by the 1600 relayed to me and pay that. Soooo, bottom line I stand by my intuition that Murrysville Auto wanted to sever business relations with me, though I had been a long-time loyal customer and always paid my repairs in full, on the spot, with no questions on pricing or suggested repairs until this car purchased in June, less than 3 months and less than 1500 miles ago. By having Jerrie and not Cody give me the latest non-repair advice of simply checking oil EVERY.SINGLE.DAY which is ludicrous to charging and not divulging a restock fee (first, I would never back out of a contract except I had new vital info), it seems obvious that I will not be continuing my service with them for this car or any other. I have no idea what changed to come to their final ways of doing business, but it is what it is. They are not the same trusted business that I came to trust and rely on all these years.

Junior initially talked me through the issue on the phone as I was supposed to drive out of town the next day just to make sure it wasn't emergent. I didn't end up driving this car but brought it in to them first thing in the morning for a look after I got back. Turns out they just need to pop the splash shield back up. They called about 3 hours later and let me know it was done. When they realized this was the only issue, they decided not to charge me. I really appreciate their transparency and good will. Will definitely use them for future car needs because of their honest service. Advise calling in advance for an appointment.

While I was already disappointed in this unexpected cost doubling, the icing on the cake was that I wasn't asked if I wanted to proceed with the repair. I was just informed that the cost had jumped, that the repair was complete, and that I now needed to pay up. This suggested to me that the original assessment of the damage had not been as thorough as it could have been. While a quote is an estimate, not a certainty, it's not good practice for businesses that run on quotes to let customers pay twice what they were originally expecting. In this situation, for instance, I would have appreciated a discount on the unexpected new part. That might have eaten into their profit margin, but it would have guaranteed that I would become a return customer, whereas now, I am not so sure.

Without appointment, he asked one of his guys to drive my minivan with me sitting next to him. He didn't hear much noise after driving for 5-10 minutes. He says "i expected you to be down here and I didnt schedule any other work because I thought you would show up and now you wasted my time and my money" i told him "yeah I understand how that could be frustrating but i didnt think it was a firm appointment, you didnt really make it seem like it was set in stone" and he just proceeded to tell me that i should have just picked up the phone (he never even tried to call me if that were the case) and he basically just told me to get the f*** out and that he wouldn't work on my car. Funny enough this is the second time I tried to take my car here. The first time I tried doing business with him he treated me like an idiot on the phone and was very belittling, BUT he did a diagnostic on my car and helped me get to the bottom of an issue i was having. My new go to mechanic!…read more I had been going to Ventrice Auto for years but unfortunately the owner Rocky passed away and the service hasn't been the same since so I decided to give my local Mr Tire a try. I was not pleased with them either as they recommended work that wasn't needed and their prices where high for the work provided and not to mention, items were stolen out of my car while it was there so I desperately needed a new mechanic! My wife was referred to Kalven by a good family friend. Her car needed a state inspection and some brake work done. We made an appointment and dropped her car off. Kalven promised that her car would be done later that same day as she would need it for work the following day and it was! He showed us the condition of the old rotors and pads compared to the new ones. I was so impressed with his work that I decided to let him work on my car as well. I needed brakes as well and was told by Mr Tire that I needed a new wheel hub as I had a strong vibration when I would brake heavily. Kalven let me know that it was my brake caliper as it was rubbing against my rotor. He said he would try to fix it instead of just putting on a whole new caliper to try to save me some money. When's the last time a mechanic tried to save you some money? He was able to repair it without having to change out the brake caliper! I also had Kalven do some suspension work on my car as well. It now drives even better than the day I bought it! Kalven is a very smart man as he has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. He has even given me a discount on work he has done multiple times! He is a honest and ethical mechanic and does not try to up sell you on work that you don't need! It was nice talking to him about his family and life while he finished up my paperwork.
