Just down to business, delicious puerto rican chinese food. If you want a good representation of puerto rican chinese, then look no further.
Not great curb appeal, but the gates surrounding the area does provide a bit more sense of security. Inside there are a bunch of tables for people who choose to dine in, and it's kept pretty clean. This is fast casual, and if you choose to dine in, it's styrofoam plates and plastic ware. Tons of people are placing takeout orders, so that is an encouraging sign that food turns over and you will get fresh food.
The main lady taking orders only speaks chinese and spanish, but there were like 3 employees behind the counter that spoke fluent english. I'm not a fluent spanish speaker, but I usually don't have a problem with ordering. I know how to count to 10 (for amounts), and I can pronounce the words on the menu. For whatever reason, when I tried to order something in spanish, I kept getting this look, as if they were wondering, "are you sure you know what you're ordering?" An english speaker confirmed every single item that I ordered. I would say, "yes, that's what I want. Did I order it correctly?" And they would say yes, I ordered it correctly. Bizarre experience, so english-speakers, just be confident and patient.
We ordered carne frita, tostones, mofongo, arroz chino, lo mein mixto, pepper steak, and pollo naranja. Everything was fantastic. The tostones and carne frita were better than what you get at other local puerto rican restaurants. The mofongo was tasty, but was not extra special like the tostones and carne frita were. Arroz was delicious and tasted like it was properly made in a wok. Lo mein was also tasty and fresh. The pollo naranja was sweet, but not too sweet like candy, and had a good amount of ginger and orange peel flavor. The pepper steak had a nice, deep flavor. Very fresh and quality ingredients for sure.
We got enough food to feel my family (2 adults and 2 elementary school children) for 3 meals. Great value! read more
