Kelsey you were the first smile I received back in January & missed you on my way back this trip. When we pulled in yesterday Ali & Dan were on the roof installing this awesomely & artfully designed "Ace's Place" sign. We proceeded to have a fabulous dinner before heading off to the priceless Red Hill Hot Springs up the street. Our bodies fell into a sweet slumber in comfy bed at the adjacent sweet & historic Monroe Inn! Owner Ali remembered I wasn't fond of lights at night & unplugged the ones in backyard. For breakfast, oh my the crowning touch was Ali's resourcefulness to squeeze us fresh OJ because they had run out. The waffles and perfectly cooked bacon hit the spot. This is an adorable little restaurant that I suspect to be family run. It's decorated so cute and the staff is friendly-just like we were eating dinner in their home. Sometimes small town places don't have the best food, but this was an exception. I had a grilled chicken salad that rivals some other salads I've had had fancy restaurants. Truly, it was delicious. They were little busy but not too much. Stood in front waiting as one waitress looked at us, didn't say a word and kept on doing what she was doing. Another gal came by and said she will be right with us. Eventually got sat and got to order food. Menu had funny names and sounded pretty good. I didn't know what to order so I went safe route and ordered fried fish (cod) with tater tots. Also ordered the Branding iron cheese steak and The barnyard burger. Food took little longer than expected but they did have a large table before us Food finally arrives and well, what can I say, had one of those should have would have could have but didn't moment. My 3 fish pieces and tator tots looked like straight out of the frozen box from the grocery store. Now I did not expect them to be fresh catch off the ocean and hand battered but I just could not help the presentation and feeling I got. The sandwich looked OK and cheese was not quite melted. Hamburger looked good though. Fish tasted like it looked, although they were crispy right off the fryer so that was a plus. Tator tots and French fries were alright, at least crispy. Sandwich was another disappointment. The sandwich bread was nice and soft but I could not get over the cheap grocery store deli meat roast beef taste for the beef. I did not try the burger but did see the yoke ooze out as first bite was taken. I was told burger was pretty good. Over all service was pretty good but food just was very disappointing. We're ready to conquer the trails after Mandi very generously offered all of our students and chaperones pancake breakfast. We probably wouldn't be able to keep doing these sorts of trips without support from our community. You can bet El Bambi has a customer for life in me, but I must tell you, the food was amazing. If you're driving through Beaver this summer and need a meal- I highly suggest you stop by and meet this amazing group of superheroes.
