I had such a great experience at Prospectacles! From the moment I walked in, Angela greeted me with a warm smile and made the check-in process a breeze. The entire medical staff was incredibly friendly and professional. They answered all of my questions with patience and care, making me feel comfortable every step of the way Dr Mai was professional and thorough, taking the time to explain everything during the exam. You can tell they really care about their patients. The office was clean and modern, and they had a great selection of frames to choose from. read more

I got my contacts here, and they did not take the prescription I needed, and now my eye condition has worsened over the past year. They were also very rude at times and had a certain attitude and would fight me on the prescription I needed. I am now at a better optometrist that has been appalled by the contacts this place has provided me. Absurd. read more

Dr. Mai and the staff at Prospectacles are fantastic! It's been about 3 years since I went for an eye exam because I thought my vision was fine. Dr. Mai exammed my eyes and explained why my vision was the way it was. I'm a tech guy and was okay with what I could see. Sometimes I'll have to squit to look at signs in the distance. I thought it was just age catching up with my weary eyes. Well, I picked up my prescription glasses earlier and was amazed at how clear everything is now. How clear? It's like going from 1080p to 4K clear! Thank you, Prospectables! I can see clearly now :) read more

I love Dr. Mai. She is so sweet and takes time to take care of all of the important details. She even let me bring my daughters for one of my appointments so I could expose them to optometry. She answered their questions and makes it feel very not rushed. It's also a plus to get some shopping done at the Stanford Shopping Center :) read more

I called them before going into the office and they said they should be able to help me get new prescription lenses. They even asked if you are a new paitient. I said yes. When I went there, they were very cold and said they won't be able to accomodate me as they are currently not taking existing glasses as it is a liability or something. It was such a waste of my time to drive to their shop and on top of that the way the lady talked was very rude. If they don't entertain new business then why are they even open! I was even thinking to buy two new glasses but they just bummed me so much that I decided to not to talk to them further. read more

I recently purchased a new frame for computer glasses at Prospectables. They had a good selection of high end frames and were helpful and patient as I selected mine. As I had the lenses done somewhere else, I ended up having a problem with the way that the purchase was charged to my vision insurance plan (not their fault) and called them back to see if they could assist. They were very kind and accommodating in fixing the issue for me, several weeks after my purchase. I was impressed by the excellent customer service! read more

I saw Dr. Mai for a general eye exam because it had been more than 3 years since my last exam and I was experiencing headaches. She was very personable and did a great and thorough job with the exam. I felt comfortable and like she addressed all of my needs. Would definitely come here again. I didn't really explore their options for frames since my eyes were dilated and I just wanted to get out of the bright sun, but from what I could tell they were pretty pricey. Found a pair of glasses I love at Warby Parker and used my prescription from Dr. Mai and was easy peasy. read more

Everyone is so nice and helpful. I went twice in one week, one foR my appointment and a couple days later for my son's appointment. They had so many options for glasses. I was happy to pick out a new pair for me and my son. I was thrilled when Angela remembered what glasses I picked out the day of my appointment, this made it a lot easier to make a final decision on the day my soN had his appointment. I rate this place 10 out of 10. Great staff, location, and doctor! read more

The doctors are generally excellent, but some stuff sucks. I was given a pair of glasses with wrong prescription, then following that, they suggested I order another frame to fix my broken sunglasses, turned out it couldn't work out, it was broken again on my way home! then I was told I would have to re-do the lenses. Waste of time! they either are not paying attention, not valuing customer's time, or lacking the expertise to run the business. read more

I stumbled upon Prospectacles earlier this year when I was just looking to buy some fancy glasses to use up my FSA. Angela was very kind and helpful and I considered going back for routine eye exams, but it's pretty far from where I live. When my glasses were ready, I also happened to have an eye problem from getting lash extensions (sigh.. my vanity will be the death of me) and Dr. See was able to see (hehe) me that day. Dr. See has been incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. I found everyone there so helpful and nice I decided to go back for my annual eye exam despite the distance. After all, it is in Stanford Shopping Center so you do get an excuse to shop before/after your appointment. I have pretty bad vision and a somewhat complicated eye history, so I can't just see any optometrist off the street. I went to an optometry practice for 15+ years whose service and quality I was never satisfied with but I kept going just because it was convenient. I'm happy with the care I've received at Prospectacles. Even though the hours are somewhat limited I like that it's a smaller office and everyone remembers your name. I've always had bad eyes and in 2017 I experienced a litany of countless eye problems, so consider my recommendation sound--go to Prospectacles for your eye needs! read more

I have been going to Prospectacles Optometry for years. It is convenient and a pleasant experience. I have always had a thorough exam and the staff are very friendly. The sunglasses are priced a bit high but I have been able to find something within my budget each time. I am very comfortable recommending this site to all my friends and family. read more

Took the whole family to see Dr. Mai recently, and it was wonderful! It may seem odd that anyone would describe a visit to the optometrist as "wonderful" but once you meet Dr. Monique Mai, you will understand. She was great with our two boys (6 and 8), and she explained things to us in a clear way, that I feel no other eye doctor has done before. The whole staff was extremely friendly and helpful - not to mention there was no pressure to buy frames or look at anything we weren't interested in. Finally, the location and the hours are great - we made appointments for a weekday afternoon (after work & school), and then came back again on Saturday. After the visit with Dr. Mai, we strolled through the Stanford Shopping Center - it was a great day all around. We will definitely be back to see Dr. Mai again - and I will recommend her to all of my friends! *Tip: if you haven't been there before, look at the map on Prospectacle's nicely-designed website, or just ask them on the phone where in the mall they are located. I asked on the phone, and they gave me a great recommendation on where to park and which way to enter the mall for easy access. read more

So I had a negative experience as well here. So if you get a contact lens exam, you have the option of a $30 refit for new contact lenses (different brands). I agreed to the price of $30 (usually $90), and arranged a time to come back for the refitting. After refitting, they told me that there was no history of me taking the $30 deal and that I would have to pay $90. They basically called me a liar and told me that I was trying to rip them off. Pretty unbelievable what happened here. Money an issue for me? Apparantly no since I am going to a Stanford Mall place instead of Costco. Here's a quote, "I train my staff to enter in notes, why wouldn't there be a note entry here if they said they were going to bill you $30?" Let me try to tackle that, because they are college students. DO NOT GO HERE. AVOID DONNA. When there's a problem (returns, billing, customer service), DONNA is a monster. read more

Overall, I had a negative experience here. The staff is really kind, but I wasn't happy w/my prescription or my contact lense fitting (ie: my vision was worse after getting a new prescription.) When I went back, Dr. Mai said everything looked right, and that this was the right prescription for me...the contact lenses were sitting right where they should be on my eyes. Maybe so, but I couldn't see clearly while driving or reading at close range. I also thought that a full exam should include a glaucoma test, and I wasn't given one. (Not that I was worried, but it had been over 5 years since my last exam.) Anyway, I wasn't feeling so confident about my new dr., so I went to Mountain View Optometry on a recommendation, and they confirmed my thoughts (see other review). Apparently, the first prescription would have been good if I was a bus driver, but in my profession, I need to be able to read at normal distances. (Don't most people?) So service-wise, the folks at prospectacles are really nice people, and I could have kept going back for free until I thought the prescription was right, but the doctor honestly thought the prescription was correct, so I didn't see the point. Maybe your luck will be better if you have a less complicated eyes. Two stars because the folks were so nice, and I really didn't pester them to give them the chance to fix things. (I know, too nice, but I like to give people the benefit of the doubt.) read more

Dr. Mai was so thorough and kind, and was so invested in making sure we got the best prescription for my needs. Similarly, Angela in the front desk was so helpful ahead of time making sure my exams were covered by insurance. I had my eye exam here, and Dr. Mai did a great job with my new prescription. It was very similar to the first time I got glasses-- I did not realise how much I was missing! In addition, Angela was truly fantastic in helping me choose frames. I shopped around, and the service at Prospectacles was above and beyond what I exprienced at the three other glasses shops I visited. And I am not easy to please...! I also appreciated that Angela offered selections I never would have considered, and without her help, I would not have walked away with such a great pair of glasses that suited me so well. The frames are a bit on the pricey side, but I feel their selection is great, the service so good, it is worth it. read more

While shopping with me, a pile of shoe boxes attacked my daughter and pushed her glasses into her face! After recovering from the shock and pain of this attack, it was clear we needed an optometrist urgently! Her glasses were bent! Prospectacles came to our rescue! Wow, I really liked the place. Dr. Mai was really nice, and she actually seemed to care about the health of my eyes. Also she has this great assistant that helped me chose my frames. The frame selection was definitely a little more high end, but I still managed to find a nice pair of Gucci frames on sale that fit my budget (and fell under my VSP frame co-pay as well!) Overall, I had a great experience and I will continue to see Dr. Mai as long as I live in the area. read more

My whole family loves this store! The people that work here, could not be nicer. My kids love to play with the Mr. Potato Head toys they have for kids, so parents can shop for a few more undistracted minutes than usual. They have a great selection and the best thing is that they take VSP, our insurance (Hubby works for Google). They even custom made a pair of glasses for my 6'7", size 18 shoe, huge headed husband! He looks so handsome with glasses that are portioned for his head. I happened on this eye glass store when I came to Stanford shopping ironically for an eye exam at Lens Crafters. A store that I had gone to for years and paid as much as $700+ for glasses because Lens Crafters failed to mention that while they take the insurance for an exam, they don't for the glasses. The people that work there also know how to maximize your insurance. Apparently, I am entitled to 3 pairs of glasses a year! 1.Everyday glasses 2. prescription sunglasses 3. A special pair you can use for working in front of the computer. Not to bash too much on Lens Crafters but on top of not taking our insurance for lens/frames, their optometrist did a bad exam. After 45 min of sitting in the chair and having her tinker with it all she told me "listen, your getting older and your eyesight will never be perfect again." "It is normal to expect some fuzzy vision." I had to pay for the exam because I am only allowed one a year with insurance but I got a second opinion here too. Again, they are WAY better at what they do. Their optometrist(sorry I'm bad with names, so I don't remember her name but they only have one) told me to keep blinking my eyes and that really helped me focus and revealed what I could see and what I couldn't see. My prescription was off! They put new lenses with the new prescription for me too. I can't wait to show off my epic prescription Chanel sunglasses on our trip to Maui (I know, I know. Thinly revealed humble brag). I have gotten quite a few compliments on my every days glasses too Thanks Prospectacles!! read more

6-15-11: Not a lot of reviews for this place. We were pleasantly surprised by how quickly they accommodated us and how Helpful Donna was there. Very helpful and bubbly in spite of there being three rather loud children playing on the floor (kids of an inconsiderate patron). Dr Mai was very thorough with her eye exam and spent a decent amount of time with me. We did end up ordering 3 pairs of glasses and they were definitely premium-priced. But the service that we got was really excellent. The only thing that was a negative was that in spite of the high-end products they sell there, they have a very strict No Returns, Exchanges, Refunds policy. When you spend that kind of money, you'd hope they would be doing everything to earn your repeat business. This includes being reasonable when it comes to adjustments and returns if something isn't right. This doesn't mean that they won't try to make it right, but this strict policy does not imply that they are very willing or able to work with a customer after a purchase has been made. 7-9-11: So we both now have our glasses and are very pleased. Donna was very pleasant and thorough in the final fitting and sent me off with a couple of cleaning cloths and solution, and a feeling that I was well-cared for. Same with my wife's glasses. These glasses were the most expensive glasses I've ever purchased, so maybe I expect premium service to go along with that and that's what we got. The only thing that brings the experience to one less star was the no return policy; this is not an acceptable policy for any store that charges these prices. If I spent $1,000+ on anything, from furniture to car work, I expect some backing and guarantee. To have the fear that this would not be the case here is not apparent in this starkly displayed No Refunds policy; it makes me feel like I'm in a Asian restaurant that displays "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone." when you first walk in. It's not a good feeling and conveys a very hard-edged attitude even though the actual service we got was very good. I hope they change this to be a more reasonable, customer friendly, policy. read more

Hi , This is my fourth visit to this place. I understand that I was late for my appointment, however they denied me service for the entire day hence spoiling my entire weekend plans not just this but next as well. I remember I had waited in multiple places for doctors to turn up or call , but I don't act pricey. I remember my second visit was about a Prada goggle which I bought at this place . It was loose and had come in for fixing the same which seemed fine however one trying it out later that week realized one of the temple was smaller. I returned to the place where in the person in charge was trying to hold me responsible for damage. I had to really explain him that I hadn't used it after my prior visit because of the temple issue . Also I would like to ask the gentleman in question about what he would do if someone messed with his 800 dollar powered goggles which are needed for driving daily. I am sure he would try to get it corrected too. I thought of still giving them a chance again but.. I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone. read more

If you are looking for an optometrist, I would highly recommend you to go see Dr. Monique Mai! When I arrived at Prospectacles, I was greeted by Angela greeted me with a big smile. She was very nice and welcoming. I informed her that I had not been to an optometrist for a long time and reassured me everything would be fine and asked to see my glasses for a little while. After a brief moment, Dr. Mai returned me my glasses -She had repaired, realigned my old pair of frames and provided nose guards at no cost for me! She proceeded to do a very thorough eye exam while gracefully asking about my health, profession, and daily life. She used that information to narrow my preferred choices of frames in a little amount of time. It made process of choosing frames a lot easier. She has very good eyes for picking frames to match my facial structure. I would definitely recommend to have her opinion when picking frames. My experience at Prospectacles have been very positive and I would suggest calling in to set up a schedule with Dr. Monique Mai as soon as possible. read more

BUYER BEWARE! BAD EXPERIENCE. NO RETURNS. I usually purchase my glasses and sunglasses at a regular doctor/optometry office which goes out of it's way to satisfy it's customers. But I needed some reader sunglasses a few months ago, was at the Stanford Shopping Center, and thought I'd give Prospectacles a try. I found a nice pair of Maui Jim reader sunglasses and was quite happy. Unfortunately I lost them and decided to buy another pair, which I did last weekend. Coincidentally, I found my old readers later that day. I attempted to return the brand new glasses that I had just bought and didn't need, unused. I was told by Donna that they have a strict policy of no returns, even for new, unused merchandise. She stated that "we are not Macy's and don't want people thoughtlessly buying things and returning them" and "there is no exception to our policy, so you have an extra pair of readers." My response was that if that is the case, then Prospectacles has a very dissatisfied customer and a bad review on Yelp. Apparently from some of the other negative reviews I have read, this is not the first negative customer experience with this store along many dimensions. I will not be going there again. read more

Beware!!! I went to this place to get myself fitted with new contact lenses. So I give them all my insurance and other info. The doc checks my eyes and then one of her assistants tells me how to put contact lenses in my eyes (took like 10 mins). And even this the assistant messed up and didn't notice I put the lens into the wrong eye. I think nevermind. And finally they give me a bill of around $400 of which I had to pay around $270. What on earth!!! And it said NEW LEVEL FIT 2. I asked them what is a NEW LEVEL FIT 2 that costs $270. And they didn't have an answer. The assistant told me I would have to come back for check ups and they would ensure that I am good to go. And even worse, the doc didn't seem the least bit concerned about how my vision was after wearing the lenses. And it was blurred! I guess she was more concerned about making more money from other unsuspecting customers. I finally had to go back and return the lenses and ask for a refund. Even then they billed my insurance for the check up. When I asked why, the assistant said, I should check before I come in to find out about the fees. I did ask them when I made the appointment and they didn't give me a straight answer. All the told me was it will depend on my prescription! So here's my review for those who are planning to visit this store! You should know about their fees! Now compare this to the excellent service I received at Woodside Optometry. I went in, the doc was really friendly and nice. She checked my eyes, fitted me with lenses and even took me back in to recheck my vision with the new lenses. She also scheduled me for free follow ups (something that Prospectacles billed me for $270). In the end Woodside Optometry billed me a bare minimum of $69 for the outstanding service. And this would have been $20 if Prospectacles hadn't used up my insurance. Beware Prospectacles! Go for Woodside Optometry! read more

I am continually unimpressed with this place, in particular their front desk staff. I called to find out how long it will take to have my glasses made (this has always been possible in a few days at most everywhere else I've gone). The receptionist was short with me and sounded very annoyed when I asked her about turnaround time on glasses. I want to have new lenses put in my old glasses, but cannot go for the 1.5-2 weeks(!) without them as she stated as the time it will take to get them (this applies to new glasses, too). I'm not sure how this place stays in business, or at least, how she is still employed by them. read more

I went in to get an estimate for a pair of lenses. Sammy the optician, first wanted to verify my insurance coverage before he would provide a quote. I explained to him clearly what was covered under my insurance plan. Nevertheless, he attempted to look it up online. Subsequently, he stated that the online system was down and that he had to call the insurer. All I wanted was a simple quote for a pair of lenses and was not seeking to submit an insurance claim. But Sammy took the process of providing a simple quote to a torturous extreme. I told him that he failed to get the point of providing a simple quote. I also told him that he was "dense" for failing the grasp my initial need for a price quote. This infuriated the guy and then he proceeded to use profanity. Needless to say, I did not get my quote from Sammy, instead I just left the place post-haste. The last I saw of this unstable guy, he was still howling at the moon. When a merchant fail to provide a simple quote for any goods or services and only interested in what they can get from the insurance company, then you have to question their integrity. There are lot of legitimate businesses that would be happy to provide a quote for their goods. I will definitely seek out those merchants and never return to this business. So, buyers beware of this practice and consider other options before submitting to Sammy's crazy antics. read more

I went to this location with high hopes. I had heard that they were the only carriers of Chanel frames in the area. Apparently the number of Chanel carriers is limited within a certain proximity. What that proximity is, and who thought this up, I don't know. Anyhow, on my first visit I tried on frames and decided on a pair that my girlfriend chose. The frames I really liked and I doubt I would have found them at my usual optometrist, Lenscrafters. The Optician was really nice, she was attentive and asked questions that made me feel like she new what she was doing. Before my second visit, I called Prospectacles to find out what I needed to bring with me in addition to my prescription. One of the staff members picked-up and was really upbeat and cheerful. I talked to her about my insurance and then I asked her about my 10% coupon. She said to bring it in so she could look at it. I get there and whip out my coupon. She looks at it and says, "its got our name on it", there shouldn't be any problem. To wrap this up without taking up much more space. They ended up not honoring my coupon because of my insurance. That's all they said. So after all the positive response from the girl at the front desk, I ended up not getting my discount. After all that, I think they could have honored the coupon. I doubt I'll go back. read more

Anybody who needs glasses or have their eyes checked out needs to go here! I came here to get glasses and Dr. Mai was very helpful and informative. Better customer service than most; except for the fact that they didn't call me when my glasses were ready for pickup. A little overpriced; $135 for AR vs. $75 at other high-end stores. I also found the same frames for 23% less at other stores. read more

I take off one star, because I did have a negative experience there once, but before and after, the service was excellent. I have not seen the Dr. there, this is only about the opticians. Donna is excellent. I believe she is the manager. She has excellent taste in picking frames for you. She's very experienced and professional. Also, she helped me get new lenses in two existing pairs of frames. After my negative experience, she gave me a discount on the second set. They take the VSP plan, which is great. Now for the negative part (you know that's what you want to hear, right?): I had a real dingbat one time that was horrid. Donna wasn't there, so this girl attempted to "help" me as follows: 1) she had a cold, and sniffled and snorted all over my frames; ick; 2) she never made eye contact, and generally acted bored and like she had better things to do; 3) was about 18 years old and looked/acted like it; 4) wouldn't listen to what I was telling her, and what Donna had previously told me - instead she turned her head and yelled to the other optician to confirm what *she*thought, not accepting what I said. In summary, she was a little beeyatch that couldn't be bothered to listen to me, the customer. I walked out and said they needed to have Donna call me, because I wasn't wasting my time further. She called me later, we chatted, it got taken care of, and I got my glasses (with discount for snottiness). I haven't seen that girl working there, since. So, 1 out of 5 or so encounters I had at the store was lousy, but they remedied it when I complained, so I give them credit for that. Well done! read more
