Our Sunday walk at Prospect Park was great! We chose it as the place when we visited Redlands. There were a lot of different people that were young, old, kids, and dogs everywhere. I loved how lively it felt as we walked around the entire park for an hour, which is about 2 rounds around the park for us. Even though it was busy, some areas were quiet, with people taking photos and happy dogs enjoying themselves. And guess what? The restrooms were sparkling clean because restrooms at public parks are usually gross but this was well maintained and I have no complaints.

What a beautiful park! We passed by it on the way to Kimberly Crest and had to stop on the way back. They have rows and rows full of orange trees with plentiful fruit. Handpicking is forbidden! This place helped me imagined Redlands and California at the beginning of the 20th century full of orchids and orange groves everywhere! I loved walking around here, what a great idea, the groves are part of Redland's history. For me, having the privilege of walking around trees full of fruit is a feeling hard to describe. Dream like. Prospect Park is a dream of a park!

Loved all the different areas we could take pictures. Parked at the cottage and had a bathroom close by. @heathercobbphotography https://www.instagram.com/heathercobbphotography?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

My wife and I love Prospect Park! It's always a go to for us when we want to enjoy Mother Nature and unwind. We have taken several photos here from big life moments over the past handful of years. We have taken engagement photos, and most recently our first babies pregnancy announcement. There are serene trails on the property that lead to beautiful views and shaded areas where it's nice to catch a sunset or read a book and relax. Definitely a recommended location to spend some quality time with your family and loved one's

My boyfriend and I's FAVORITE PARK in the IE. We love coming here on Saturday mornings to get our bodies moving before "attacking the day," as he says. I am always blown away by all of the beautiful and countless views. Somehow each time we come, we discover a new little path. Aside from it being a nice place to get your steps in, it's also a hidden gem for photography shoots! We've seen people taking graduation and wedding photos here. But, the park is big enough where the sessions don't feel intrusive or bothersome. The area is surrounded by beautiful, historic homes and is even right next to Kimberley Crest mansion which my bf mentioned is a popular place for outside ceremonies and weddings. To my surprise, Prospect Park also seems to host the Redlands Theatre Festival (except maybe this year due to COVID-19) which I LOVE!! Being a theatre goer myself, I can't wait to be back to watch a production. Definitely pay a visit if you're ever in the Redlands area!

Came here to run, It's NOT good for running- it's nice for a walk. I thought there'd be some kind of long loop path around the park that i could just do laps on but the park is made up of a bunch of short interlocking paths which are packed with lots of unmasked ppl doing photo shoots so you can't run without frequently stopping bc you risk ruining someone's photo. (I did go on a Saturday and it's December so it's high peak time for photoshoots). That being said, it's gorgeous and that's why people are taking their photos there. For people looking to run, I'd recommend the neighborhoods around the park. I ended up doing a 7 mile run in the neighborhood. The neighborhood is really nice, the homes have a lot of character, and there's nice long paths/sidewalks.

The trees are years old so they provide great shade on a hot day. Plenty of different tree types to see like orange trees, magnolia trees, etc. The Kimberly crest mansion is also here and you can get a tour (appointment-based and fee-based). If you're don't feel like walking, you can also take a tram to the top. Great views and places for picnicking.

I was using my manual focus to do my shallow depth-of-field shot.

Ask the Community - Prospect Park

Are we allowed to take photo shoots here?

    Yes

    Can you have picnics here?

    Yes

    Are dogs welcome?

There are plenty of walkers with their fury friends. They are all on leashes.

Due to COVID of a couple wanted to elope in this park with just a photographer and a witness is that possible? Would a permit be required?

Not sure about officiating a ceremony, probably need to check with the city on that. I have seen photographers staging photos there with clients, seems to be pretty common .

Is this a good place to have a picnic?

Usually yes, but right now everything is roped off. You can't sit on any of the communal areas.

Do i need a permit to take photos?

No, this is a public park. Hot spot for photographers!! They may have a paid event going on which might limit where you can go.

Is it free? And why does my gps say theres a restricted street to get there?

Because the street is there, but its like going to Hollywood Bowl, when you reach close by the gps will tell you that its restricted streets.

Is it busy to take pictures on Saturdays?

We went on a Sunday around 11 and I noticed it started to get a little busy with families taking photos around noon . If you get there early you shouldn't have a problem

    Is this park picnic friendly?

Yes! They have limited chairs and tables; however, there is plenty of grassy space and tons of large shady trees if you want to picnic the old school way. I recommend bringing a trash bag for disposal to keep the park beautiful.

One of the larger ducks was acting like a puppy - it was so endearing and frightening at the same time. Right now there's a lot of construction. The main restroom area is being worked on. To reach the ponds, after you park, you'll need to walk upwards to the left where there is a dirt foot trail to the ponds. There are two ponds. The first one that you'll see, is the smaller one. There are a few ducks that were here when we arrived. We saw several people fishing in this pond because the park recently stocked up the pond with fish. Although, when I spoke to someone who was leaving, they caught 3 fishes and were heading home. Another person who just arrived an hour earlier, still didn't catch any fish. My advice is to go early in the morning when the fish are hungry to catch the fish. To see the larger pond, just keep heading upwards to the right and you'll immediately see it to your left. This pond has most of the ducks congregating here. We saw less people fishing at this pond maybe because there were more ducks. The main reason to going to this park was to feed the ducks. You're not supposed to feed them bread. We brought bird seeds and sunflower seeds (with no salt) with us. When we went, there were three types of ducks: Mallards (The males have the pretty green colored feathers from their head to their necks while the females are covered with different shades of brown. I like the light tan feathered ones. You may see the all-white feathered Mallard which is pretty too.) Muscovy (they look like they're wearing red masks lol) The ones here were rather large compared to the other ducks. American Wigeon (they're smaller than the Mallard & Muscovy with green feather streak from their eyes going down their necks. At the top of their heads, the feathers are a white streak going down their necks as well. The main part of their body is covered with brown feathers.) Overall, we had an enjoyable time here feeding the ducks and relaxing in the park. Great free activity to bring along your kids to see the ducks. Just remember not to feed them bread because it lacks nutritional value and can lead to health problems for the birds.

Although the park is technically just across the street there's no crosswalk within a mile in either direction. It honestly feels like the City of Redlands isn't fully aware they have train service. The park itself is quite lovely and spacious, featuring a large rose garden, a children's play area, a gazebo (which requires a permit to use), several picnic spots, a horseshoe pit, and a skatepark. One picnic area has a functioning sink, but the others lack water access. While the landscaping is attractive, overall maintenance leaves much to be desired. There are remnants of old tennis courts in disrepair, and although the restrooms were clean and open, they're very outdated and likely don't meet current codes (cities don't have to comply with their own codes). Sidewalks are scarce, making this park difficult to navigate for anyone with mobility challenges. If you're planning a small gathering, keep your group under 25 people to avoid needing a permit. Seating is limited, so arriving early is a must. Also, be prepared to pack up and leave quickly if law enforcement hassles you. Parking is limited for a park of this size, which is why taking the train would be ideal--if it weren't for the unsafe street crossing, especially concerning if you have small children. Sylvan Park is technically a "resident park," not a "public park." This means its primary use is intended for Redlands residents, and non-resident use may be restricted or require additional permissions. For larger group events needing permits, you'll likely need liability insurance and guidance from a Redlands-based attorney is strongly advised.

Be mindful though, the trail is a dirt pathway and if they recently watered the grass, then you'll encounter patches of mud. The trees and bushes are numbered so you can look up what type of plant they are, but they're indigenous to the area.
