I've passed by this lake in the southern part of Prospect Park many times during races I've done there. During the nice weather seasons the lake offers a picturesque view. Today it was still covered in snow and ice from the recent winter storm we had. From what I've read it's also a decent catch and release fishing spot with largemouth bass, bluegills, and other fish populating the waters. Also, it's a 55 acre man made freshwater lake. I need to bring my rod here this summer and get some fishing in! read more

In Prospect Park, there's a lake. It's in the southern area. This is surrounded by a jogging trail. It's also nice to look at. This area is often pretty quiet. If you like running then you will enjoy it here. It's a couple miles around. The lake is also nice just to sit by and do nothing. It's the nicest thing in the southern part of the park, and it gets lots of people just walking around it. There are some who go fishing there. It's a good place for a picnic. There's often people grilling when it's warmer. If it's not a holiday weekend it's usually quiet here. Many times it's just some joggers. This is good if you need some alone time. read more

Prospect Park Lake When I did some volunteer work with an environmental non profit I had the occasion to visit the lake. The wildlife is abundant and it's a heaven for birders. There are plenty of places to fish along the shoreline of Prospect Park Lake. Many of those areas are accessible to people with disabilities. In addition to the lake, there is parking, lighting, and other family friendly features to the park. Mass transit is available by both bus and subway. You can ride the F or G train to 15th Street - Prospect Park to access the lake from the west. The Q train to Parkside Avenue/Oceanside Avenue is the closest subway access to the east side of the lake. The Q, B, and Franklin Avenue Shuttle stop at Prospect Park/Empire Boulevard - Flatbush Avenue, is a short walk from the park. The lake is 2 & 1/2 miles long and 7 feet deep. You can find all the information on line about the wide variety of fish species in the lake and the times and regulations for fishing. Sunday afternoon at the park is perfection. Sunday afternoon at the lake in the park is the best kind of perfection. Like watching a turtle swim perfection. Like trying to explain where and why the turtle is swimming to my five-year-old perfection. Like the look on his face when he realizes I don't know the answer to the question he's asking perfection. And so it began for us there at this placid lake. My son's stage of enlightenment. Well really his "mind of his own", according to his NICU nurse, has been here since the night he was born. But something about this lake brings out his self awareness (and maybe some form of his conscience) even more. It is so serene that even with several boats passing by we felt like we were in the Catskills or some other magnificently quiet place, far away from our urban jungle home. There are so many positives of this part of Prospect park. The roller skating in the summer or ice skating in the winter rink is nearby, and the water park that we attended a birthday party for during the early summer is the perfect setting for fun-in-the-sun memories. On our most recent lake adventure, we met a fisherman that offered great beginning fishing advice, allowed us to check out his three fishing rods one of which, he said, is worth $250, and showed us amazing pictures of huge bass that he'd caught earlier that day. Then we heard African drums in the distance and ran to them. A group of musicians formed a semi circle. A watching audience completed the circle. With the exception of one crazy and cursing woman (this is still bk), we were comfortable and content with our Sunday afternoon. On the way home, he turned to me and said "Mommy, I love this day." All of a sudden... it just hits you...You realize exactly what you have to do to better yourself and your life...this is a great area to think and relax on a Sunday afternoon... When I was there there weren't any ducks :( lots of people come here to walk around and go fishing...the areas quite nice... Lake pretty big....might be the same size as central parks lake... I like coming here around spring/summer time...it's like a little escape from everybody.... just to enjoy my alone time.... Comfortable!!! read more

It is a great park. Specially if you have a dog. They have off leash hours even though the time is not perfect. I am still very happy I can bing my dog and let him run free while he plays with his bodies! read more

Brooklyn is a great place. I love it! That being said its a city filled with Traffic, Bad Smells, hipsters, etc.. There are times it can start to weigh heavily on the sole. Prospect park is the rogue french fry in your onion rings. Amazing. First off its HUUUUUUUUUUGE and in the center of its hugeness is this lake which is big enough to actually find a little solitude in the middle of this city filled with millions of people. There are fishing spots (God know what you would catch. I'm guessing fish) And little places to sit and just enjoy not feeling like your in the middle of the city. My personal favorite thing to watch is the bird watchers. They like to enthusiastically talk about birds and trees and stuff. Some of them even dress like Crocodile Dundee. Just breathtaking as the sun prepares to set. It's just so serene to watch the ducks and swans glide across the lake. Great open space to escape the "urban jungle," although the sound of honking horns in the distance can bring you right back to reality lol. I took some beautiful photos of this natural scenery. My son and I love to come here. We watch and feed the ducks, geese and swans. The lake is such a stress reliever. When I run my six miles in the park I stop at the lake to take in the beautiful scenery.It's very breathtaking. In prospect park you would always find me by the lake. I love prospect park. I run around the park at least once a week (twice when it's warm outside). I do two laps, which is about 6.7 miles. It's a great workout with hills and flat sections, there are tons of other people running/jogging/biking/walking and using weird exercise contraptions to keep you entertained as you go about your business. The park is clean, a great place for a picnic, has an ice skating rink in the winter that turns into a roller blading rink in the spring/summer, event venues, and a lot more. It's the perfect peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. read more

Very peaceful lake. Playground for kids and portable restrooms are nearby. Dogs are allowed to walk on leashes. Picnic and Barbecue areas near the lake. At night nice view of the moon near the lake, ducks, horses, geese and benches. Bike lane and runners lane are very spacious wide. Fantastic park, designed by the same man who designed Central Park. Seems larger, and it seems to have fewer people generally. Great place to go for a run! The loop around the lake is between 3.5-4 miles. Great place to run hills, speed workouts, and fartleks! For a city, the perfect place for a runner! read more

I am truly a Brooklynite. And being a Brooklyn night Prospect Park Lake has been the fresh water Lake to fish at from a child all the way now until an adult. I remember fishing this lake with my father pulling out bluegills sunnies and occasionally crayfish. I was never lucky enough to catch one of the big mouth bass as a child but as I became older and continue to study the lake and studying the habits of this particular species I was able to nail three Pounders and one three and a half pounder. You would not believe the type of fish that inhabit this late. I only hope that those who fishing return the fish back safely. If the hook should happen to get stuck in the fish's mouth where it cannot be remove safely please cut the line and release the fish back into the water unharmed.
