First time stopping in this winery, as we have passed it multiple times over the past 88 years. It definitely is a hidden gym and I don't want to promote it too much because I love the intimacy it brings However, the grounds are absolutely beautiful, there's even Airbnb rooms to rent, they have live music, beautiful patio area for Woodfire pizzas barbecuing I had no idea about this!! And let's talk about the service, Cindy, who was pouring our tastings, was so sweet, engaging, felt like we were visiting a friend. There were a couple of locals that would walk in, and everyone was so pleasant. Can't wait to go back. Ohh the wines-- yes, those too are good. This winery must be doing something right. It's a boutique winery in the Sierra Foothills. Strictly red wine varietals. Charge $15 per taste but waived if you buy 3 bottles. The flight has four tastes that start off with a sparkling red. Not a huge fan. However, all the other wines are perfect.Black Tie Charlie is the name of the wine that brought us here. Received a bottle a few years back and have been trying to arrange time to visit the winery. The reason for four stars versus five is that their hours are iffy. Could be Covid related. To join as a member you need to purchase a case, then each year buy a minimum of six. Yes we joined! The setting is relaxing and very serene. Make a reservation if you want to taste. read more

Prospect 772 is a great winery with great WINE!. It is a MUST SEE! My husband and I stopped here one day, on a whim. We drove by several times before and never stopped, but always wondered about the place. I am ashamed to say that we waited as long as we did. Prospect 772 not only is one of my FAVORITE wines now, but it was the my first-ever wine club. Our first visit was on a Sunday, when they weren't really "open" on Sundays at the point, but Ron was nice enough to let us taste. Not only did we get to learn about the wines one-on-one, but he was nice enough to provide cheese and crackers!! #winning From the beginning of becoming wine club members, we have had the greatest time at the events and becoming good friends. One of our favorite events is the August Live Music Nights. The wine, scenery, music and relaxation on a Friday night is FANTASTIC! We even passed up seeing a Willie Nelson show to attend their event. If you have not visited this winery or tasted their wines, you're MISSING OUT!!! Don't do what we did and wait. :) read more

Prospect 772 - The 2012 Truant is outstanding! - Wineries Near Me - Angels Camp, California

Prospect 772 was founded in 2002 in Angels Camp, CA with an interest in small lot productions, attention to detail, and Rhone grape-based wines. They do not have a tasting room (yet) but they were pouring at the East Bay Vintner's Alliance Passport Event at Rosenblum Cellars. Why? They do create some of their wines at JC Cellars at Oakland with the assistance of wine maker Jeff Cohn. Why were that at Rosenblum Cellars and not JC Cellars for the tasting? No idea. They have cute names for their wine, Baby Doll Rose, The Brat and The Brawler. The only reason they don't annoy me is because they really do describe the wine you are drinking. The Brat is 53% Grenache and 47% Syrah. It had a complex flavor and I was surprised there was any Syrah in it at all. The Brawler was the clear winner in our group. It's a Big wine, 96% Syrah and 4% Viognier. I tend to like the fruit bomb Syrahs and my friend likes the peppery Syrahs. This was a more earthy, peppery Syrah but smooth with less tannins because of the Viognier. It was the only Syrah we could agree on all day. Way to go Prospect 772, it was a good showing! read more

There are a lot of good wineries in the Sierra Foothills these days, but Prospect is our favorite. The wines are world class and the tasting room is beautiful. It's a spacious high ceiling room which is lined with wine barrels and the grounds around the building are the epitome of Sierra Foothills beauty. I've included a picture of two of my kids playing with the reeds by the pond. I highly recommend making the drive out there to check it out. The wines are fabulous--of excellent quality. The space, both outdoor and indoor, is peaceful. The live music events are fun and casual, held under beautiful oaks. I enjoy going here because of the wine, but I also like the setting--it's not overcrowded and is off the main road so easy to park and relax. I joined the wine club last year and am happy to support their winemaking. It's the very best wine in the vicinity. read more

What a beautiful winery! Great setting and wonderful wine! The names are funny too (Brat, Brawler, Truant, Instigator...Haah!). It is a good place to stop on your way to Murphy's or just to hang out for a couple hours with a picnic and a bottle of Stepping Stones and/or Baby Doll. They are super nice and knowledgeable with some good recipe ideas too! An assorted case of wine to go and we were set! We played golf at Greenhorn which is a beautiful course about 10 min away. Must Go Winery in Calaveras County! We had passed Prospect 772 multiple times while heading to Murphys and on a Friday before Mothers Day we decided to drive to see if they were open. As we approached the gate it was open however they had a sigh that they were only open on Saturdays and other days by appointment. After talking for a moment we called to see if they were open and Ron answered and said that we are welcome to stop by and asked how far away we were. We told him we were at the front gate and he told us to come on up and he would be there in a moment after he put shoes on. We tasted the available wines and loved them and walked away with several bottles including one that he was running low on. Later that night we drank one of the bottles and I decided to be there first thing on Saturday even thought it was out of the way so that I could get more wine. We ended up walking out as new members of the wine club and with a case of wine. Prospect 772 has great wine and the people are excellent. This is a must stop for anyone heading to that area! The Truant and the Black Tie Charlie are excellent but I would not turn my nose up to any of the wines. read more

Here we have a winemaker who truly knows how to make wine and blend wine as well. The winery sits on some very beautiful countryside just off highway 4 near Angels Camp. The owners share this property with the winery members thru special wine tastings, wine dinners, and outdoor concerts where members can BBQ their food they bring while enjoying the concert series during their Hot August nights series. This winery is off the beaten path but well worth a stop. The tasting room and grounds are beautiful and the wines are top notch. Our favorites are Stepping Stones, a Grenache blanc, and a Syrah based red called The Brawler. We hosted our daughter's wedding here in June and it was the perfect venue. The co-owner, Ron Pieretti, was very easy to work with and so helpful in planning our event. The tasting room has a living quarters above that we were able to use for the bridal party to get ready. Also there's a small house in the vineyard called The Birdhouse where the groom and groomsmen got ready, complete with a bocce ball court. The patio behind the tasting room has a brick pizza oven, which our caterer used for making appetizers. Under the oaks is a stage and dance floor area and picnic tables. Our guests were raving about the great venue and the tasty wines. The venue can accommodate parties with as many as 300 people and the field in front provides plenty of parking.
