FIVE STARS isn't enough! Moved to the Central Valley about a year ago from the Bay Area and wanted to find a winery close to home. We were tired of driving to Napa, Sonoma, Livermore, and Lodi. Once we found Lucca we were here for life. The employees were so friendly and nice. Every pour was brought with a smile, a story, and friendship. You really feel like a friend at Lucca. After the first visit, I became a member. We tried the tasting for white wines and the tasting for the red wines. They have three choices and the third was another tasting of red wines but a little stronger. The wine was great and we even came home with two bottles. We love coming here! We usually do the mids or darks. My favorite is the moulverde 2018 and peckerwood 2019. So good! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They always make us feel welcome! The atmosphere is very chill and laid back. They also have many options of salami, crackers and other snacks. They have a fridge area you can pick from. Yelp review says pets are welcomed. Couldn't be further from the truth. I came in this afternoon with my 11 month old Cane Corso. Super friendly dog. There were 6 people sitting outside a couple of the ladies got up from their seats to pet my always popular pup. I sat at the table next to them and was asked promptly by staff that I needed to leave because my pup wasn't welcome. Sad, his name is Lucca as well. Just wanted the opportunity to try the wine and buy some products with the name on it. Take a picture of him in front of the sign. I intend to take this even further legally. Being local was reason enough for us to visit Lucca the first time. When we taste, the quality of the wine is very important to us but not as much as the vibe we get from the ownership, staff, tasting room... we want the whole experience. We fell in love with Lucca because they provide it all. We also love the fact that Mark's wines age really well in the bottle, and that each visit seems to provide something new. We especially enjoy the special events. Their release parties are also fantastic, but our favorite is the monthly pizza night. Their crust is almost as good as their wines. Love this gem in Ripon! Three different wine tasting flights and extremely affordable. In fact, buying a bottle of wine cancels out for the wine tasting of $15, a low price to begin with. Just minutes away from highway 99 and easily accessible. It's a friendly winery with indoor and outdoor seating. Clarice was our hostess / server and she was fantastic and friendly! Lucca Winery was a wonderful find while traveling through San Joaquin County. Their grounds are located in the small town of Ripon, and their grapes are harvested in the town of Oakley. Lately I've tasted many wines with grapes originating from Contra Costa County, and I've been very pleased with what I've tried. The warm Contra Costa climate allows for very robust vineyards, giving many winemakers in the area a pretty diverse lineup of varietals to create. Lucca offers a versatile variety of both red and white wine, and they'll practically let you taste the entire menu if you so desire (you probably wouldn't make it home if you actually tried to though). Their grounds are that of an open warehouse setup with wine barrels that line their tasting room. It's a very fun and lively environment with wine maker Mark Lucchesi who often makes appearances and allows customers to sample unreleased wines. Sommeliers Don and Dave were absolutely fantastic! The level of hospitality that you'll experience here is truly remarkable. A tasting is $10 but is waived with a purchase of a bottle. Their bottles are super reasonably priced! They also make their own wine corks and sell many other fun wine related trinkets. The quality of their wine is truly impressive. I tasted several of both their red and white wines, and many of them really piqued my interest. A few that I really enjoyed: their 2014 Carginane, 2015 Peckerwood Red Blend, Viognier, and their late harvest Mourvedre. I rarely ever see Carginane on its' own as it's normally used as a blending wine, but I have to admit that it was light and delicious. This Carignane also had a light ruby color which I found to be unusual but it was quite fruity and also well balanced. Their Peckerwood Red Blend was delightfully bold and juicy. This wine was actually not for sale at the moment, but they allowed me taste it and it was very delicious. My favorites were their Viognier and Late Harvest Mourvedre which I ended up purchasing and taking back home with me. Mark let a few of us sample an unfinished dessert wine that was still in the works. I loved being able to taste wines that weren't available to the public yet. It was such a fun experience. The atmosphere is very welcoming and homey. Many locals stop by to chat with the wine maker too. Overall, it was a very fun experience and I plan to return the next time that I find myself in that part of town again. read more

Amazing white and pink flowering almond trees, the owner allowed us to take photos in his front garden. He toured us his farm and it was amazing to hear about his family's rich history in the Central Valley. The wine and snacks were up to par, if not, even better than any winery in Livermore or Napa area. The farm itself was kept and very clean, everything was organized and the parking was even paved! Such a great experience! Service was probably one of the best I have ever had. For wine tasting, the staff would come to your table pouring wine. Our room server was extremely knowledgeable and very personable. He remembered our names, promptly refilled our glasses with new wine and just generally was very attentive. This place was such a let down. Walked In wanting to do a tasting which we had our dog with us, the guy who was Inside let us know we can't do a tasting inside with our dog. The highlight of the day for our February 19th birthday celebration was our stop at the Lucca Winery. The ambience is casual and unpretentious or what I would call down home wine-chic. Don was our wine guide. His passion and love of wine making clearly came through as he walked us through our winetasting flights. Not having tasted any of Lucca wines before, it was nice to have someone so knowledgeable about the history of the wine making process in general and the Lucchesi family's place in that history. Of course, while Don was a wonderful host it was the wines that we had come to experience, and they did not disappoint. I can't really say that I have one favorite because each one that I tasted was wonderful in its own way. If pressed hard to have pick one wine only, it would be the 2016 Peckerwood. The backstory on the vinting of this wine is delightfully unexpected, but its rich velvety taste tickled my palette and left me wanting more. So... a bottle of the 2016 Peckerwood, 2017 Enzo, 2017 Jacopo, and 2017 Sangiovese left with me. When they are gone, since I am out of state, I will be ordering more! read more

We had such a lovely tasting experience at Lucca on Saturday, 12/5/20. There are several tables spaced reasonably apart outside, though shaded by the building so it was a bit chilly! My wine palate is not experienced at all...but full stars from me for friendliness, lighthearted atmosphere, and ease of reservation. There were 3 tasting options (white/rosé x1 and reds x2) each with 8 pours for $10. So generous! Of course the fee is waived with bottle purchase. They sell cheese/crackers to help soak up the alcohol, or just have a huge breakfast before like we did! I made the reservation online through their website. Although I was initially bummed there wasn't an immediate online confirmation for a table, Mark emailed back by the evening. Reservations are for 75 min slots, but we did not feel rushed at all. I think we even lost track of time between getting visits from the winery doggo and being treated to tastings from an experimental batch. My friend and I grew up in Ripon, so we are excited to have Lucca here! read more

Mark and Lynette are such happy, fun owners and it feels like you are going to hang out with family when you arrive! The first ever wine tasting we did, well, we didn't arrive until almost closing time! I mean we maybe had 30 minutes to do taste testing! However, they sat us down and we did the full 16 tastes ( I think it was that many), anyway, we had crackers and cheese as well! I went here with my girlfriend and we had an amazing time. Our hosts were great and made the experience very enjoyable. They were funny, knowledgeable, and very personable. My girlfriend loved one of the wines that we tasted so much, she bought a bottle and the chocolate that paired with it instantly! Being dog people, we usually are able to enjoy wine tasting with our 2 well-behaved dogs. We were told they weren't allowed so we left them in the truck (weather was perfect for it). If it was hot, we would have just left. Mark was very pleasant & apologetic that we couldn't bring our dogs in, but Don was way overly chatty for our taste. For those who want a history lesson for each wine, he's your man. The tasting room is kind of cool, but the chairs were too short for our table so we felt like little kids. The dog did bust in & if I wasn't a dog person, that would have been uncomfortable. The wines were not to our liking but we bought a couple of bottles of the one wine that we thought was decent. My family stopped by Lucca Winery randomly - we were about a block away ... recovering a weather balloon, and saw the sign - and I'd highly recommend this to folks looking for a fun time at a winery or an event venue. The tasting is extensive, and the wines are more highly-proofed than normal. So, don't plan on going through the full thing and driving anywhere. We all stopped well short of the full tasting (I want to say that you could probably taste 10-15 wines here). The spectrum of wines is pretty broad, so there's likely to be something for everyone. The guy running our tasting was super helpful and patient. The other patrons were friendly - we were there on a Saturday afternoon in May and there were only about a dozen other people there total, I got the sense that they were nowhere near capacity. read more
