The consult was quick and bout two weeks later (he sent an email explaining the delay in the mean time) he sent us a very detailed mock up of the landscape. Then he patiently answered about 30 back and forth emails as I asked questions and made revisions until we had a final plan. He had someone come out to clear the old landscape on 10/23/17 and then he finished all the work a week later on 11/1//17. This included redoing all the landscape in the front of our house, cleaning up and redoing our courtyard with stones and creeping fig and cleaning out the back yard and planting several fruit trees. We were told not to mow the new sod, and the company programmed our irrigation system with the watering schedule they recommended. When the sod began turning brown, we were suddenly told to stop watering and start mowing--the exact opposite of the instructions we had been given. We relied on their expertise, and the conflicting guidance contributed to the failure of our lawn. A professional lawn care company later assessed the sod and determined it appeared to have been diseased prior to installation. Despite this, we were told the sod was only covered under warranty if we had purchased an "optional" treatment add-on. If that treatment is necessary to ensure healthy sod, it should be included in the installation price--not sold as an extra. We paid for professional installation and expected healthy sod and consistent guidance. Instead, we received a defective product, contradictory instructions, and no accountability. *We were offered to pick up pieces of leftover sod - not feasible. *The comment left on PJ's below said to wait until October - that's not feasible either if you had a drain field replaced and would be dealing with a dirt field for a front yard for months. *If you go with these guys, get the treatment and hold them accountable. They will try to talk their way out of owning responsibility or any effort for service recovery. Very disappointed.

As we put the word out to landscape designers, we started to get contacted by several companies wanting to quote the work. Steve from S & L was the first to respond. He was punctual and professional at the estimate appointment, COMPLETELY understood the assignment as we described what we wanted and provided a very reasonable quote for the work we requested (he even provided us with a thorough sketch of our vision the very next day!) This was a marked difference from the other companies - some wanted to charge us just for their plan (!), some had to be chased down for a follow up, some missed their scheduled appointments and others were ridiculously high with their estimates. Throughout the planting/installation process, Steve and his team were in constant communication with us, asking us to check their progress as we moved forward so that we were all on the same page (even offering GREAT suggestions).
