Very frustrated with this shop. They took my money to diagnose and "fix" my 1989 Tahoe Sea Swirl, told me the carburetor was the issue, and claimed their adjustment would get me through the summer. well, it didn't, I even brought a new carburetor with an electric choke and I'm having the same issue when I first took it in. The boat had the same problem immediately. When I called back, they told me they "don't really work on older boats." That's interesting, because they sure did when they charged me. Brought my boat in for service then they charge me $400 to change the spark plug wires in the cap then I went and got the boat took it to the lake and it didn't work. He said bring it back so I brought it back. they said they messed with the carburetor Went back to get the boat went on a lake. Still didn't work call him back he said bring the boat back after wasting tons of gas brought it back to them then they want more money to look at something else. I know my spark plugsand cap did not need to be replaced. Then when I picked up the boat, my spark plugs were still out my fuel and water was out not installed so yes, I do not recommend this place stay away. read more

We purchased a prop and other items needed. We ended up not needed all parts. Had paid cash for the majority and when returning the part that was paid in cash the girl said we don't give cash so put it back on a card and was told it would take 7-10 days. Unacceptable. We called because we had a question and the guy said we could get either cash back or card. Gee would have been nice to have the cash back instead of now we wait for a refund. These clowns can perhaps fix props, but anything above that, STAY AWAY! I got totally screwed. They dropped in the wrong replacement motor which totaled 9 grand with labor. I specifically asked them to replace the Malibu Response with an OEM motor. That did not happen. They dropped in a motor that was 90 HP less than the factory motor. AND IT DIDN'T RUN! This was a high-end pristine ski boat. I took it up to Washington to make the boat what it should have been, and that's another story. I spent $20k on this boat....and I think that money is a 100% loss. Sucks to be me. read more

In the past 6 years of owning our boat (95 four winns, OMC 5.0 efi), we've been through 3 boat shops and a mobile boat mechanic. Happy to say we finally found a boat repair/maintenance shop that I trust. Service, communication, and turnaround time was the best I've experienced. Took a week total (during the offseason), to diagnose, get my confirmation on the costs, get the parts in, and get her back. Couldn't be happier. Had another issue during the beginning of summer (a few weeks ago), shop parking lot was grand central station with boats, previous experiences at past shops I expected six weeks (drop it off and forget about it till they call). Total turn around plus a list of minor issues, and redoing the bunks, was just over two weeks. Again, communication was great, boat runs awesome, they pointed out a couple things that should be addressed, I concurred, easy peasy. Worked with Brett for the majority of it. I am one to read reviews and I read the reviews before I went in to take my prop for a repair, mixed reviews to say the least..Every other shop in the Valley wanted double for a repair, a repair that's sent out to a different company out of state to repair it. Other shops probably up charge for the service when another shop is doing the service. When I called and was told they did it in house I figured I would give them the business right? Well I dropped it off and was told it would be two weeks to repair. I didn't mind since I didn't have plans to take my boat out, it took an extra week before I was called that it was finished, three weeks even though they told me two, figured they're busy in the middle of the summer who cares? When I dropped my prop off Aaron helped me out, I had questions and without hesitation he answered them. Today when I went to pick up Aaron helped me out again, and again I had another question, to some my questions may have been stupid but he didn't hesitate to answer my question. I year ago I gave these guys a 5-star review and said "they earned a customer for life".... Not anymore. I brought my boat in for what I thought was a ground issue. They said it would take 7 days to take a look at - well it took 3 weeks. Turns out it was a blown amp. After it was repaired, I took the boat home to find out not all the speakers were working and to find out my immaculately clean interior had 1/4 inch of dust throughout. I took the boat back and Aaron made a few tweaks to the amp and all was working well again. Two weeks later (the day I was gonna finally take the boat out) I realized I was having the same problem with the speakers. I took the boat in to see if Aaron could do a quick fix and was told he didn't have time to even take a quick look at the problem. That is not the customer service I am looking for - especially when I have been patient/understanding throughout this process. They are no longer a shop I will take my boat to. Also, make sure you carefully read the paper posted in the font of the cashier's area that reads "you better have your boat insured" because they don't claim any fault for stolen/damaged property. I found that interesting when I came to pick up my boat and it was sitting in the front (no space in the locked back area) and the trailer was not locked so anyone could have come to attach my boat and drive off with it. read more

Don and his team are great. 2nd time in for me. Checked everything, didn't replace anything that was not needed. Did the service in the time frame they said they would and returned to me in 1 day. Communication was good. They checked the trailer as well. I haven't taken the boat out yet to run it, but I think it will be fine. Note that the boats are stored outside so if there is inclement weather, your boat will get dirty, but no different than anywhere else. read more

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME. Dropped off boat for 3 weeks and during that time life happens and I was forced to sell it. I told them I was selling it on a Tuesday that Friday after them having it 3 weeks and it wasn't ready that Friday. Not only that after selling it to someone and him noticing there was a small leak when I talked to this place about the issue and wanting it fixed they made a comment it's not mine anymore so it's on the new buyer. I wish i would have caught his name. I brought a prop in last week that i thought was damaged beyond repair. Not only were they able to repair the prop and make it better than new. But they completed the work much faster than I expected. And while picking up my prop the you mechanic that helped me was so informative when i had several questions not only about porting and the different props but also on an engine issue I discussed with my fishing partners boat as well. { who is calling tomorrow today to make an appointment } I was so impressed his knowledge and his professionalism. Keep Looking!!!! Don't waste your time or money with this company. I dropped my boat off on a Tuesday and was told it would be ready to be picked up on Friday for a weekend of boating. I called Friday to pick up my boat and they informed with an attitude the boat won't be ready until Monday. I then called Monday to pick up my boat and they informed me it now won't be finished for another day. It ended up taking them a full week to complete a simple oil change on my boat. When the time came to pick up my boat the same poor attitude and customer service was still in full affect. I showed up in my work clothes and when it was time to hook the boat up to my truck all the employees disappeared leaving me alone in a shirt and tie to hook up my trailer. Horrible experience and will travel further and pay more money in order to not do business with this company again. read more

Seems like the service has still not changed. Was informed, by mike, to bring my first boat in to be shown how to properly start and trouble shoot(supposed to be in and out 10-15 mins) free courtesy. Super thrilled at that point, until things went south. I brought it in after work on Tuesday the 1st of July, hoping to take it out the 4th of July weekend. Instead, of being in and out, like I was told, they told me to just drop it off and I could pick it up Friday the 4th. I informed the guy, bob, that I was only there for starting procedures and that I didn't know if I was doing something wrong because it keeps dying after running short amount of time. He starts writing a form so I reiterate to him that I am not trying to request any services until I am able to see them start it. It says ok and tells me I can keep it there until I come back to be shown how to start it. Friday, I get there, and am told the mechanic is at lunch and to come back in an hour or so. An hour later they told me that they were too busy... Come back Monday. I get there Monday and they say the mechanic left for the day. Still patient and polite, all the while this is happening. Tuesday, the mechanic calls me and says he had some spare time so he started the engine up and noticed there was a problem right away and that I need to rebuild carbs for about $350. I politely said I can't afford it but would be happy to buy the gasket kits from them and attempt it my self. So they order the parts and I go to get them Wednesday, only to find that they only had one gasket kit, which they apologized, and lied to me saying that they were trying to call me all day... This was said for multiple days actually. Thursday I go in and the gaskets are there, great! Now they pull up a bill for labor, which they still haven't shown me how to start the boat, and I asked them from the start to not charge me anything without showing me the starting procedure first so that I know I what I might be getting into. They say that I wS never told they would start it for free and if they noticed anything they'd let me know where to proceed from there. Once again I am told to come back on Monday, when mike is there, to talk to him about. I came In today, like I was supposed to(keep in mind it's been 2 weeks now) and explain to mike the situation. He was so nice before so I thought this would be cleared up right away as a misunderstanding, even though I explicitly told bob I wanted to make sure I was getting charged for anything and said not to start the engine without me present! Keep in mind, not once did I become rude or raise my voice. In fact I apologized that there was a communication problem but I could afford labor costs which Is why I told them not to do anything without me there and aware. He immediately tells me to get out of his store and that I was just trying to be a "cheap-ass" and get free labor. I explained once again that it was merely a misunderstanding with what was to be done, since obviously 10 mins vs 2 weeks, and a far stretch to say the least. He told me he didn't want any of my business and he would rather send my parts back than to sell them to me. I politely left, confused at what just happened, and was in awe. Like bob, from 2 years ago, I was in my suit and tie, burning up, and didn't even receive any help or courtesy from them even to get my boat hooked up and ready. Not sure how something so small to them( 5 mins the mechanic told me, which they charged $50 without my permission) got escalated to that extent. Especially, without me raising my voice, using profanity, or showing anything but sincerity and respect . Mike must be the owner if he has the capability to ruin a potential business relationship over something so small. I can promise this, though, working at a financial institution i run into conversations like that all the time and I will speak poorly of them to everyone I speak with. I just hope that isn't how they treat every single person because it's some of the worst customer service I have seen anywhere! read more

Have purchased props in the past here, but they recently bought out the boat repair shop I used to go to, so gave them a try. I was in for my boats annual maintenance. I paid about $680 for oil and plug replacement, impellor and outdrive greased up. They went over my trailer and replaced some bulbs as well. I am happy with the service. read more

I purchased a little 2-stroke motor for my aluminum boat on craigslist and wanted a marine shop to go through it for me, give it a safety check and maybe clean out the carbs as it had been sitting awhile. I had heard good things about Props Plus since they have been under new ownership/management. Turns out the rumors are true. I had a great experience with Don and his crew. They took it in, and I believe it was Aaron who worked on the motor. Aaron himself called me with a detailed update on his findings, what his thoughts were on the motor and explained to me what they would suggest doing. He was super friendly, professional and took his time to explain everything. I am a details guy and I ask a lot of questions -- he was able to answer all of them and I was also very pleased with the pricing. AVOID THIS SHOP!!! A few weeks ago I called and inquired about turn around Time to have my boat serviced. I was told with the issue I was having 2-3 business days. I dropped my boat off on a Saturday and confirmed again 2-3 business days assuming the boat had no other issues. I called the following Thursday and was informed they haven't even looked at. Of course my response was "well so much for the two or three day turnaround". Told them to call me back when they know something. A gentleman called me back and was extremely rude and acted like I was bothering him, taking up his precious time, and informed me that no boat shop has a two or three day turnaround time. I told him I'm only going off of what the other gentleman that works there told me. Sorry that I have expectations as a customer. After dealing with the rudeness I decided that I would pick my boat up And take my business elsewhere. The gentleman called back an hour later and apologized. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and decided to let them proceed with service. Another week went by with no update from the shop. So once again I had to call to get an update which was met with extreme rudeness. I once again apologize for interrupting his day and for inquiring about the progress of my boat. I had recently replaced the fuel pump but with a cheap one. It had already gone bad. Two weeks before I took it to the shop I filled it up with 20 gallons of gas from Quiktrip. They informed me that they tested the gas and it was 80% water. They removed 20 gallons. They called me up said it was finished and running great. Following week I took it to the lake and it would not start. It would start at half throttle and would die if the RPMs dropped below 2500. So not only did I have to deal with a very unprofessional and rude asshole my boat wasn't fixed. I called to inform them that my boat still wasn't running but I won't even take it back there and I'm not even gonna try to deal with the headache of getting some sort of refund from a person like that. I would recommend avoiding the shop at all cost. read more

These guys are awesome. I needed some repair parts for my outboard and I also had a couple question about the repair. I called 4 other shops around the valley and only one other shop had the parts I needed in house. That was great but once I asked a question about the actual repair itself All I got was the selfish response.."not sure brother why don't you just drop it off and we'll take care of it". Finally I called Props Plus. Not only did they have all the parts I needed, but when I went to pick up the parts I had a couple questions about the repair. Instead of just talking me into them doing the work and them making more money, they offered me some tips and Brett even called in the mechanic from back and he gave me a couple tips as well! I made the repair that day and my boat is back on the water! Not everyone has mechanical ability or confidence to make repairs on their own boat like I do so guess who I will recommend they go see??? You got it! And if ever I need work done to my boat that I cant do or just needs parts or accessories you know where I'm going! read more

Had a lot of work done on my Boston Whaler with a 40hp mercury, replacing a bent shift shaft, motor mounts, and lower unit and prop damage. Brett shows a lot of energy and helpfulness, BUT he never returns a phone call--even when he says he will. (I had to come in to get his attention). Also, he knows little about the mechanics of a boat engine. Some examples: he called me to tell me I needed a new starter, because all it would do is "click". When I came by, he said the mechanic had not charged the battery (duh?). His mechanic later started my engine with the water jackets dry after sitting for so long. The exhaust blew back through the new water pump and burned it up. Turns out you have to do a first dry start in a tank (they should have known that!). They needed to do a rebuild on both carbs--OK. The boat was sitting a long time and not surprising, BUT, the mechanic had a very hard time with the job and took multiple attempts to get it right. Brett couldn't explain why. On reassembly, his mechanic left out an important nut that holds on the lower unit, starboard side. I pointed it out. They found the nut and some other parts that were still on the work bench. I took the boat anyway, knowing I could put them on myself. Upon inspection, they left off two springs that help hold on the mount covers on the lower unit, portside. I called to complain and Brett said he would look for them and call me back, as usual, no call after two days. I found the springs on eBay and bought them. Other than that, every thing seems fine! My first boat ride is coming this weekend. IF I don't re-post, then all was well! read more

Wanting to keep my business local, I have twin dual props on my boat at Lake Powell. I live 430 miles away. Only needing one prop, but ordered two new sets at $1260. After two weeks, I finally made it to the lake for a weeks vacation. The props they sold me would not fit. I cut my vacation short to return the props to get ones that did fit. I was told when I was in the store that I needed different washers and hardware to make them fit. OBTW, I was also told at the time of purchase that these were a stock item. The owner told me that he would order the required hardware and to take the props back with me and he would send me the additional hardware. A couple of days later, he calls me and says the hardware was in and the added cost would be an additional $500. He also couldn't guarantee that these would make the new props fit correctly. Now I am already into a wasted trip to Powell, and I live 3 hours from Phoenix. I said no and told him I would be returning them for credit and purchase the only prop I needed. When I returned them, I was charged a restocking charge of $180 for propellers that would not fit and should have been informed at time of purchase, charged $350 for a prop I could have obtained over the internet for $275. Brett the owner knew of my situation but said I had the props for over 30 days, they were special order, and that he was not in business to loose money. End result, I have a single prop that has literally cost me around $1,500. He said he would help me out on future purchases but truthfully, I don't trust him to keep his work or do right by me on any future purchase. So, I not sure about all these great reviews, but take it form me if you have a problem, expect the worst. My advise, learn from me and purchase your needs elsewhere.... read more

They took over Lloyds Marine (phone number?) and so I decided to give them a try. I had used them for a prop fix years ago. I thought they did a good job. They missed when they thought they could get it done (but that is pretty common when they are opening engines/ outdrives and not sure what they will find.) They made it within a couple of days though. Brett was good. About typical with pricing but they did believe my serpentine belt was bad and saved it for me to look at. They didn't charge labor for that change out. They also checked my trailer. No complaints at all. They have a fenced in storage area but be aware the boats are kept outside so you will need to clean yours up when you get it back or leave it with a cover on. They did call me when it was done. Good service and I will return there. Brett made me feel welcome and that they wanted my business. read more
