Excellent local barber shop, been going here for a handful of years now. Started patronizing this barber when the one I'd been using since my first haircut in 1983 closed (RIP Gene's Barber Shop Fremont). She does a good job, every time, both for myself and my kids. Truly a local business, who has contributed to Niles Elementary School and other charitable ventures. If you or your kids need haircuts, this is the place to go. Also, does shaves as well, which I did recently. She's the only local barber I trust to trim my absurd mustache as well. Made the mistake of trusting another bArBeR with that and they butchered me . This was for years our go-to barbershop. But no longer, for these reasons: 1. The quality of Sabrina's (owner) work is far from what it was a few years ago. Haircuts have been crooked, or not what was requested. 2. Why post shop hours if sometimes she is not there during those hours? A neighbor and her past customer remarked on the same thing, saying that it was wasted time and gas to get there. 3. I was in Niles and had my 3 year daughter with me. I had been wanting to get her hair cut so we decided to go in since the sign said they cut kids hair. The lady was really nice and made my daughter feel really comfortable. She sat on my lap while she got her hair cut. The lady worked fast and did an excellent job on the cut!! Nothing fancy, just a good haircut for $8.95, cash only. Either of the 2 people that work here do a good job. (Don't be surprised if she doesn't offer to wash your hair, get you a glass of merlot, or massage your feet; it's nine dollars, Rockefeller!) From 1912-1916, Niles was briefly home to the Essanay Film Company, a motion picture company located at the canyon's western mouth. If you're not happy with what you get maybe you should have saved that extra five dollars instead of getting that grande mocha and went elsewhere for a haircut?... That's like buying a hamburger from McD's and complaining about it not being like In n' Out Burger. (SMH) You get what you pay for. If you're looking for a no frills barbershop, less the fancy decor and the swanky attitude that usually accompanies it, you may want to give Proper Cuts a try. Friendly barber, but the price and cut just isn't worth it. I asked for a simple undercut and the barber cut all the way to the top of my head, basically giving my the back of the head a buzz cut. She left the top back with some strands of hair so now whenever I just slightly wiggle my head, I can feel it brushing my head as if a spider is crawling on the back of my head. read more

When it comes to hairstyle, I'm about as low maintenance as they come. I've chosen to have very short haircuts since I've been old enough to buy my own cuts (since I was a teenager). I don't need a shampoo prior nor do I want them teasing my hair with mousse after the cut. A good clean cut with a buzzer with some skillz to pull a fade and I'm all good to go. I've found out over the years that even though I might tell a barber what I "want" may not be what I "get". So when I find a place that does what I want, I tend to be very loyal. This has been my barber for 10+ years, and even though they've had to relocate, I had to follow them. There are pretty much 2 barbers here: one woman (the Owner) who has great skills and feel for hair and is quite social; and one older guy who I don't think speaks a lot of English, but somehow nods and understands my instructions. I once needed a quick buzz before a Vegas weekend, sat in his chair and instructed "somewhere between an MGM and a Bellagio." He just grinned and proceeded to give me the usual. They both have slightly different styles so I don't mind who gives me my cut and in the end I have slightly different looks from time to time. Oh, did I mention a cut here only cost a whopping $8.95. Low maintenance cut for a low maintenance price, perfect for low maintenance guy like myself. I usually just give them $15 and tell them to keep the change. Why tip so much, some say? When most other barbers around charge at least $15 who in turn would probably make me look like a doofus, I'll easily give that to the 2 people I trust most in shaving my head just the way I ask for it. My haircut was cheap, fast, and done exactly how I like it. There were three people ahead of me with only one person working at the time. Nevertheless I was out in under 30 minutes. When it was my turn, I showed her a picture of me after a haircut I liked. 10 minutes later I was done and super happy with the results, especially for just $8.95. There are so many haircut places that are way more expensive and don't do that great of a job. All of the other customers looked like regulars, and I can see why.
