Either poor English, or either poor phone manners. Borderline discriminatory. I agree about others positive comments: these may be friends' comments. Although my husband has been going to another salon, they aren't open on Sundays and my husband needed a haircut. He saw the younger person there (didn't get her name but she had longer hair) and was very happy to walk out with the haircut that he and I both wanted. At 8.95 + generous tip, it was a steal! As we were leaving, she handed us a flyer and indicated that they were now offering women's services. I noticed that eyebrow threading and eyebrow waxing were only $5.00each. I don't know about the quality of the work for this service, but if it is as good as my husband's haircut, it will be a huge bargain! read more

In my on-going search to find Old School Barbers I came to Proper Cuts in the Niles District of Fremont to find that Barber. Passing by it, I was hoping that I would be in luck as it has all the trademarks of an old school barber. The old fashion barber pole, a sign advertising Men's haircuts for $8.95, and it being located on what would be consider an older part of town. Came in here and the place goes back very deep. It has a small waiting area with a couple magazine choices. There must be like 4-6 chairs in this place, though there was only 2 people working (and old gentlemen and his daughter). Since the old gentlemen was giving someone a haircut I jumped into the chair and told the woman my usual hair cut. It probably took about 10-15 minutes. The best way to describe the haircut, was that it was your typical Mall Haircut. It wasn't that it was bad, it wasn't anything special either. Also they DO NOT do the straight edge razor here either (automatically -1 Star). Overall, this place is ok, similar to any mall place but about $10 cheaper. So if you're looking for just a quick mall style haircut and got $8.95 in your pocket, this is the place to come to. Also this place is CASH ONLY. read more

I'm in need of a haircut and decided to stop by on my day off. It was around 12:30 and they were closed even though checking online says they are open. The had a sign saying that they would be out from 11 to 12. Thought they might have made a mistake and figured I'd come by around 1. Went to Bronco Billy's ordered lunch. Walked around Niles and played some pokemon go since it's been awhile since the start of the pandemic. Got back there a little after 1 and they were still closed and no one was inside and the lights still off. The hair salon next door was closed to but taking appointments only and the stylist was just waiting. Nobody was in this place and I thought to myself forget it. I'll go somewhere else. Just need to figure out where since this place is a few minutes from where I live. read more

There is an Asian lady there who is absolutely wonderful and pleasant to talk to. She is always there in the daytime. I just want a simple buzzed haircut, short around the sides, and a little left on top. She does a great job of it. There is a younger lady, but I have not had her cut my hair, so I am not aware of her skills. Very reasonable price, so you can afford to tip well. read more

I went in today to get a long over due mens haircut. Found it on yelp and decided the price was good cheap and the location didn't look too confusing, so why not. I gamble with yelp when it comes to haircuts, because hair grows back, whatever. Parking was good and I walked in to see the barber and a client getting his hair cut. I walked in, greeted the barber and just sat down. There was just him so didn't expect the wait to be long, nor was it. Few minutes later the customer paid and left and it was my turn. I showed her four photos of the style I wanted or similar to it. She took out her glasses to view the photos, I'm glad she did. She made it similar to it, and for $8.95+tip the results were well worth it. I liked that she was able to analyze my hair telling me it was too straight and if I wanted certain hair styles I'd have to train my hair. While cutting my hair she noted that, "it seems like you sleep on this side so your hair sticks out, so I'll leave it [so and so (maybe longer)]. I haven't slept yet so I'm not sure if leaving it the way she left it will ease my hair sticking out every morning, but it's the thought that counts! My reason for taking one star off was because after the guy ahead of me was done, she used the same barbershop cape. Not sure if there's any sanitation rule for the tools either. The quickness and short amount of time makes you question detailing. Sat on the seat for 20 minutes tops. Lastly I don't even remember being brushed off (of the excess hairs) or a blow-drier being used. Minor flaws, but I'll be sure to return here as the barber seems nice, price is cheap, and tries to understand the style. read more

Good fortune struck when I walked in this afternoon. Being over 60, I was tired of running into barbers who knew how to give a fade, but nothing else. I was also more than fatigued trying communicate in a language other than English. On both counts, I struck gold, and will not go elsewhere...any longer. This is such a cute place. My kids get their hair cut here, the lady is very good at cutting my toddler girl's hair, and the gentleman is better at men's/boy's haircuts. I love this place. Since I have been in the Bay Area and I found this place, I am not going anywhere else. This place is even better than a few more expensive places I tried. Do not expect a modern environment but the hair cut is a 5 stars one! Rasha, the girl working there, is quick and give me a fading hair cut. The one that I like (and I am REALLY picky). The price is unbeatable. It would be under $10 ($8.95 to be accurate) but I always tips some extra dollars. I sometimes use the other barbers shop on Thornton which is also good, but it usually has a long line waiting; although the Barbers is good, the hair cutting is usually very slow. There are times when a guy just needs a quick haircut to discontinue their weeks of looking like a bum. I'm a happy customer here: you get a quick cut, that's even and done well. If you want to look like a fashion runway model, then you need a salon, not a barbershop which is what this is. The man who cut my hair was courteous and very friendly.
