But with all that rushing when did you eat? Thankfully Proof opens at 5AM. It's open atmosphere is brightly lit and inviting. You can either sit at the bar or choose a table which are contoured, lending to a feeling of privacy and relaxation. This is definitely impressive considering you are actually in the middle of the concourse. At each seating position you have an iPad to order your food, pay your bill and even check your flight status. The food was pricey but good. This was such a great place to land after a red eye from San Francisco. Convenient iPad ordering, outlets right across from my gate, and a number of healthy food choices. I ended up with a smoothie and an order of sausage.... the smoothie for health purposes and the sausage because hey... I'm on vacation so give me all the sausages (that's what she said). Wifi in the airport is good (but only comped for 30 minutes). The Manager Tom's service was EXCELLENT. I felt very at home and relaxed sitting at my little bar spot. He even came around with complimentary dark chocolate caramels after breakfast! What more can a gal ask for. The set up is pretty interesting - in the center of the hallway is a seating area with iPads for ordering, as well as plugs for recharging your devices. You order through the iPad which is pretty easily done. The quality of the salad that I got was actually not bad - except that it was transported from another part of the airport. By the time it was delivered to the table, the greens were completely wilted. The staff was not friendly or engaging. I can understand when one person has a bad day, but when you interact with three expressionless servers who barely acknowledge you and ignore your "thank you".... well, something's going on. While the steak was cooked well, the bacon was tough and stringy; salad dressing was tasty but again, the greens were soggy by the time of delivery. The prices are on the high side but for an airport serving decent food it's what I expected. There are quite a few restaurants in the Newark airport that are similar to Proof. It just happened to be outside the gate of my connecting flight. Service here is surprisingly good. To be fair, I was here for breakfast, so it wasn't incredibly crowded. The restaurant caters to every technological need you might have. Chargers (standard and USB) at every seat plus an iPad. Food here is good. I was surprised. However, prices are outrageous. Omelet and coffee this morning cost me a whopping $26. Yes, you know the prices before you order, but wow. There's not a lot to say for an airport grill and bar. You'll be ordering through an iPad (a sequence of events that I don't think is all that great) and your food and drink will be delivered in a decent amount of time. Cool concept but lacking in customer to server interaction if you want it. No cash handled or accepted and gratuity is a mandatory %18. If you are old fashion and not very keen with using tablets to order you might not like this place. Prices are outrageous even for airport prices. I'm sure they charge so much just because they can. On the bright side food is good, drinks made to your specification and quickly delivered. Additionally you can you use your United Airline miles to pay for everything, but they ask for a ridiculous amount of miles as well. Burger was surprisingly wow! Proof and vanguard are running by the same people. We were able to order from the kitchen vanguard menu. The food came quick. You need to place order on the iPad but they don't allow you to customize but the waiter did ask the chef not to put butter. The system charges tips when you place an order. There didn't seem to have a designated waiter as the waiter was also the bartender. Each person has a iPad to use on the table. We requested for a straw and the waiter gave us a few. We told the server we needed to head to our gate and asked her to cancel the order. She apologized and said she would. We were then surprised to see that our credit card was charged.
