First of all, I must say that it's not just a hotel. It's a resort where locals & tourists can…read morevisit for hiking and beautiful views of Giessbach falls and Lake Brienz. I love the fact that the trail leads you directly behind the waterfall. It's so cool & refreshing up there. It's totally worth visiting on a sunny or rainy day. There's a café on the hotel terrace, as well as an indoor lounge with a restaurant. Many people were on the terrace enjoying a snack while viewing the waterfall and lake. We walked around the historical rooms and lounge of the hotel. It truly is a step back into the late 19th century. It was also cool to see the Giessbach funicular car traveling up the track from Lake Brienz. It's the oldest abt switch railway design dating back to 1879. Neat! I'd say it's worth a visit for the Nature Park. There are so many different trails that lead you to Iseltwald, Schweibenalp, Axalp, Brienz, and Bramisegg from the park. It's such a scenic drive up there as well. I can only imagine how beautiful it must be when viewing it all from a ferry on Lake Brienz. We enjoyed our visit here. It was peaceful & relaxing.

If you are looking for an experience with your hotel stay, this is the place for it. The atmosphere is breathtaking. Listen to some live piano music while sipping on a cocktail in the lounge and taking in views everywhere you look with a waterfall on one side and the magnificent Lake Brienz on the other. During the day you'll see a trolley that transports guests up and down to a ferry on the lake. My only note is that the comfort factor may not be quite as high as some other places, but the charm more than makes up for it. The buffet breakfast was what dreams are made of. Cheeses from local pastures, honey straight off the comb, fresh pastries, the best coffee and espresso--and that's just a few of my favorites. You also have your pick of fresh fruit, cereals, pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, etc.

We had cheese bread (yes there is an official Swiss name, but I have no idea what it is), salad and soup. Basic but perfect. Thank you for a pleasant dining experience.

Planning our first time stay in Switzerland, I ended up settling on this hotel. Granted,…read moreeverything in Switzerland is expensive, especially hotels but Lake Brienz drew me to this one. It is a family style hotel made in traditional Swiss fashion. I was very disappointed to find it wasn't next to the lake, as pictured. It is old, the floors creak. There isn't any air conditioning and it was hot. We kept the windows open, no screen, just the curtains to keep the mosquitoes out. We were woken up a few times with street noise, cars driving thru, people talking/laughing loud, and snoring from someone nearby as well as the staff preparing the morning; transferring items from the restaurant across the street to the breakfast hall in the hotel. Needless to say wasn't our best sleep. We ended up extending our stay from 2 days to 3 due to the train ride up the mountain. Our original room wasn't available so we had to move up a category which meant we would have a balcony and a view of the lake. That sounded amazing. Well, the view was but the room was a step down. The sink was not in the bathroom but in the bedroom. There wasn't any space to lay out the morning routine. The breakfast was sufficient. I loved the homemade breads but my husband thought it was the worst on the trip. The coffee machine was nice. Barbara is a hard worker there at breakfast and the restaurant but should work behind the scenes, not with people. We did everything we could to avoid the sour face. Juan, on the other hand, was the bright spot in the entire place. He made us feel welcome, gave suggestions, and always had a good word. Thank you Juan!
