The problem is that if you have to go to the bathroom and need help the help doesn't come at least for a very long time. That was the experience of my mother. I spoke to a friend whose wife originally was in Cedar Manor and she experienced the same thing. It's true that there is a shortage of nurses in the United States but not all institutions are as bad as Cedar Manor. My friend moved his wife to a place north of Ossining and they took good care of his wife. When my brothers put my mother in Cedar Manor it was against my advice because she had been there once before and had complained about the wait there but my brothers didn't listen to me because they had been told by a staff member that there was a lot more staff than there was in the past. My mother was still ignored when she needed help.

My mother-in-law was at the Bristal for almost two years. I loved that it always felt bustling and…read morelively. The main gathering space was always full of people doing activities - playing games, doing chair exercise, current events, or something else. The residents were very friendly in general, and the staff was friendly and professional. The staff did a very good job with my MIL (she was not always the easiest person in the world). Rena, the ED, is excellent. I have known Rena for a number of years from other professional interactions, and she is notable for how much she cares about the Bristal she directs. We didn't run into any staff that we found objectionable. There can be a bad apple here or there, or personality conflicts, in ANY care environment - but fortunately, that was not our experience. The comments about theft are years old - it appears they have fixed this issue. I don't know about memory care because my MIL was in regular Assisted Living. My MIL had congestive heart failure, and that's what eventually did her in. When it became clear that hospice was her next step, she was able to remain at The Bristal, and she passed away there. It was great that she didn't have to go somewhere else.

I made her feel at ease and enjoyed the short conversation with her . I am looking forward to volunteering here. The Bristal is beautiful and inviting. I highly recommend the Bristal, after visiting several Assisted Livings over the years with my Mom, who passed. who was considering living in one, : The Bristol by far was and is in my opinion way above in all other Assisted Livings in the Tri State area , in all areas of care, for anyone seeking to live in an Assisted Living environment.

Every time I visit her, I am astounded at how much the staff cares about her and how they have made this transition as easy as possible. Their programming is. engaging and very positive. Sheree and Serena do an amazing job and our father just loves them both! The doctors at Artis have changed his medications and he has regained quite a bit of autonomy. They really seem to understand the aging process and how to best support independence. The best is that our father is happy! He has friends and he loves to be with them. Artis embraces the members families and welcomes the families to be as involved as possible. We find this refreshing and we go to visit almost every day! We are very grateful everyday for Artis.

We needed to have asked what percent of the residents have memory problems or dementia,as a majority of the residents did. My mom is sharp & vibrant , she had a limited number of people with whom she could engage, converse and do stuff with. Between that and not wanting to live in an aging body, she was less interested in in longevity, nor did she wish to live any longer. Over the last weeks of her life, she was able to visit with everybody in her family, the entire care team was incredibly supportive. We had a wonderful hospice team and the entire staff at Atria was so caring and embracing.

For example, Seba drove 3 hrs round trip in traffic to visit my parents, brought them culturally appropriate food and spoke w/ them for hours. Without this visit, despite my dad's cancer and mom's dementia, there would have been no way my parents would have agreed to move out of their house. My dad's care was very demanding due to his late stage cancer. My mom's dementia necessitates quite a bit of hand holding, and the Atria's driver, Dino, coordinated most of their doctors appointment. Enza, the sales director, went out of her way to help my family through this difficult time. The key part is that my parents both felt like they had their independence which translated to their happiness. Due to the small community, the staff and tenants became like family and we still keep in touch months after my mom moved out. Some of the staff and tenants still calls my mom to see how she's doing. My mom looks back very fondly of her time at this Atria.
