Lucy has been more than accommodating by helping to make my mother in law feel welcome and settled in . She has updated our family with daily texts , pictures etc . She has eased our minds( my husband and his 2 siblings ) and is very approachable. We had concerns since we made the decision to make the move and Lucy helped to ease our minds and nerves . She is very hard working , has a wonderful disposition and shows love and patience to not only my MIL but all the residents . We visit often and thanks to Lucy and her staff we are very pleased with the move to Thrive!

The staff was incredibly welcoming and the culture of family permeated throughout his time there. Administration was always available for any needs that arose in everyday living, insurance needs, and always welcomed feedback. And the attention to detailed execution of COVID protocols was so reassuring to family members. The medical staff is extraordinary in terms of medical knowledge and treatment, as well as providing a level of emotional support that makes a resident feel truly valued. The team is always upbeat and positive, which makes a huge difference day-to-day. Dad LOVED the food at Brandywine. He ate three meals each and every day and the diversity of options and quality of the ingredients and preparation were at a level of virtually any restaurant. The social activities available at Brandywine provide entry points for anyone's interests and level of desired engagement. From exercise to movies to card games to trips, all of these activities build a wonderful community. And in dad's final weeks, the sensitivity and treatment were filled with love and compassion. Most places we visited were decorated in the 80's, dusty and dark, smelled of cheese and had felt really depressing. Enter Brightview Tenafly, and you'll feel like this is a place where people are actually happy. It felt like a well-run hotel. It's super clean, freshly painted, modern with a traditional touch - bright and clean, with plenty of light, and comfortable furniture that could be in a cute little hotel on the coast. The receptionist greeted us with a smile and Ritchie, our principle contact, was genuinely pleased to see us (unlike other homes where we felt like we were a burden to ask for a tour or see the director). Depending on the time of day see residents reading the newspaper, doing Tai Chi or having a drink during happy hour. The most important factor I'd like to stress is that every staff person I meet here is genuinely pleasant and supportive of the residents. We had been looking on and off for a few years in NY, NJ, and CT. We even thought of bringing her back to the UK. It was an emotional process, filled with guilt (why can't I do more?) sadness (why is she going downhill?) and honestly, even a bit of anger (How am I going to decide this? What will I do with all her stuff?). I always felt sick after leaving assisted living homes. They never felt right. However, last spring when she was departing hospital for the 3rd time this year, we knew we had to make a move. It helped that SHE was on board (ok, we had to nudge her a bit!) and also knew it was time to move. We were so glad she had opinions of what she wanted - and didn't want - in her future residence. It helped us narrow our options down. The clincher was that she was able to do a "trial run," stay for one month, and see if she liked it. She was able to move into a beautifully furnished, studio apartment. I didn't find any other facility else that had that choice. It was a fantatic option, as both sides get to see if it's a good fit. After a week we knew. We saw how the staff made sure to know her and her (sometimes slightly annoying (!) requirements that helped her feel heard. She liked that she could get her nails done (often it would be so hard to take her to get her hair, nails and other chores done when she lived at home). She saw movies and began painting classes. She could go to church services. She loved the choices she had for food (it's restaurant style, with plenty of options). I don't often gush about things. It's not the English way. But I've been so impressed; I feel Brightview deserves it. * I must insert here that we were looking for assisted living, not memory care, but I'd wager they have their act together to in that sector as well.

It is understood that we are going to live our lives, but we have to focus on recovery. Anytime appliances or issues arise in the house owner takes care of it as soon as he possibly can. I appreciate his concern for our living conditions when it comes to making sure our houses are livable. If you are in need of a place to change your life around, you are not going to find anywhere better than DB House!

To those who are recently in recovery- beware. There are serious problems at the DB House, and…read morevulnerable people with lives on the line, read carefully. This is not about the residents, who are overwhelmingly a solid group of recovering folks, struggling but mostly succeeding. Insect infestation (bedbugs)- the owner, MB, is a competent/astute businessman. Presumably, he did the same cursory research that anyone would and quickly discovered that in the event of a chronic/weeks- or months-long infestation, where residents are regularly getting bitten and the infestation transferred between residences, particularly in a group home setting, steaming etc is insufficient. The mattresses and bedding must be replaced. The resources appear to be available to resolve this, but he has failed to take these obvious steps, and the residents suffer. Lifestyle- On the positive side, substance use is not tolerated, and likely quickly detected and dealt with. However- the owner recently stood in front of more than 75 of his residents and told them, nearly word for word- legally, I can and will evict you in the middle of the night, purely at my discretion. Many have nowhere to go, and are terrified. Several of the residents have no apparent reservations about making near daily bigoted remarks. At first, in the midst of some of the house managers, I wrote it off as mere off-color jokes, nothing to warrant concern- "I don't like X nj town because of all the jews." When I realized that the last resident who had issues there (unrelated to a relapse) did not actually have the initials "JB," I had a better understanding of what was going on (yes, J bastard). Yes, this occurred repeatedly, often within earshot of owner/management. Given that, it's not necessary to describe the consequences of being suspected of having different spiritual/religious beliefs. There is little or no hesitation in placing people in potentially life-threatening circumstances (ie: recently abstinant from deadly synthetic opioids, and suddenly on the street). Questionably legal in an entity with a state certification, but certainly horrendous either way. Probably worse, in some instances with the full knowledge (and even encouragement and participation) of the house manager, I personally saw 10s of thousands of dollars gambled away (not a typo) by folks who need to be saving to get back to a productive life. Worse still- residents occasionally used passes not to visit family, attend job interviews or otherwise engage in their recovery, they were used to patronize prostitutes at a local hotel. This type of stuff is going to happen in early recovery, it's hardly the end of the world, but with the knowledge/consent of management? That's the culture at DB, coming from the top. Dangerous territory. Again, this is not on the residents, it's on management. Above is only the tip of a truly atrocious iceberg. The company appears to have managed to get other negative reviews removed. Yelp moderators will not flag or remove this one. Consumers have a right to know for instance if a restaurant is not cleanly. Prior to the board of health, boarding house licensing agency etc taking remedial action (or not), certainly vulnerable prospective residents MUST have access to this information. Lives are at stake.

My sister and I spent a week at CM during the last week of October, so we could visit our Auntie…read morewho has been living there for over a year. We were excited to visit her and see where she was living now. And to our pleasant surprise, we found CM to be a beautiful retirement village that catered so well to our Aunt's needs. My Aunt's apartment was so cozy and perfect for her, and what an amazing view she has from her balcony. You're literally looking into a forest of beautiful trees, especially now during the Fall season. And nearby, is another gorgeous view. My sister and I had the privilege of staying in an apartment right on the grounds of CM for guests to those who live there. How convenient that was for all of us. We were impressed with all the staff that my Aunt introduced us to. They were so friendly, attentive and all with a smile. We ate in the formal dining hall once for dinner, and it was so delicious. And we also had lunch one day in the Cafe, which was equally as good. My Aunt is 88 (soon to be 89) years old, but still has a lot of "kick and bounce" in her. And we're so happy she chose CM as her retirement home. We feel she's well taken care of, safe and has everything she needs right there. So thank you, CM, for a wonderful vacation you provided my sister and me. We're looking forward to coming back for another visit next year. And thank you for taking such good care of our Auntie Elaine, too! =)

My father had a fairly brief stay in nursing home at Crane's Mill from July of 2024 through…read moreOctober of 2024. I waited to write this review so I would be able to reflect more clearly on the experience. Mostly, my father's and my family's time there was not very positive. I am leaving the two stars for those staff members that did treat my father with kindness, compassion and understanding. We decided to put my father on hospice so we could access more daily care and less medical testing ect. However, what we observed is less concern, less care and less compassion. My father's care was not easy as he had little mobility and dementia/delirium the last few weeks was significant. Hospice did provide pharmacological intervention but did not provide much support or communication with the family. Fortunately, my family was able to spend every day with him and provide him with the support required to make him as comfortable as possible. The most disturbing was that my father was placed at the end of the hall and after this daily visit once per shift by the nurse, there was no check- ins by the aides other than the alert bell that he could ring. The thing is when we rang, it was longer then 10 to 15 minutes before anyone would show up and at times it could be 30 to 40 minutes. No aide was stationed outside in the hall, so I spent much of my time searching for help. There were four occasions, I found them on their cell phones in empty rooms. Rarely, did not see supervisors on the floor making periodic checks on both him and staff. Basically, any assistance received other than the bare minimum, was mostly reactive not proactive. I would like to thank the nurse that did sit with him a few times during the end as his anxiety was severe and also the staff members that alerted me when his needs not being met. In the end, an aide assigned to my dad daily was treating me harshly, that I hired a private aide to stay with my father so that I could take a break from what appeared to be passive aggressive cruelty. This aide refused my father his last cup of coffee on his last day telling him the kitchen was closed, as my brother showed up and retrieved a cup in that kitchen. Previously, I did ask supervisor to speak to her but was told, that it was happening. I often wonder how she treated him while I was not present as he was somewhat helpless. Unfortunately, taking care of both my parents, I witnessed other facilities, and it is my opinion as a society, we must do better with the elderly. Working with the elderly and health care is a very difficult job. Owners and administrators must do better providing a caring emotionally and monetary rewarding environment for their staff. The response to these reviews asks the writer to call and discuss. Again, reactive, so I will offer my further input only if it is a proactive response.

Like many elderly folks I suspect, my dad didn't want to leave his home. He decided to give your Community a try because the isolation, boredom and loneliness brought on by Covid was very hard for him. He was beginning to decline and get depressed. Three days after dad moved into The Cliffs though, he began telling jokes again. His usual happy demeanor returned. He was participating and enjoying all of the activities, but mostly he began to fall in love with a place filled with warm and welcoming people. Within two weeks he asked me to sell the house he had lived in for 50 plus years. He didn't even feel the need to return to it. He said he "was happier than he ever imagined he could be, with his new home and family." I will never find the words to adequately express what that meant to me as a daughter... My dad passed away peacefully last month. He had lost his ability to speak. He slept almost all of the time. And yet, whenever someone entered the room he opened his eyes and greeted them with a huge joy filled smile. He did that until the very end. You all gave him that. The unbelievably dedicated Caregivers kept him comfortable and happy during his time with you... The amazing residents laughed with him when he told his jokes and said hello to him as they passed him in the halls. Others prayed with him. Some of you didn't even speak, but patted him on the arm knowingly while he slept in the Great Room. I don't think I will ever stop missing the man that I loved so deeply all of my life. A man whose happiness I wanted to assure until he took his very last breath. With that, I will always be thankful for the small part I played in finding your "Village"... This very special place, for him to spend the end of his life's journey feeling loved. With that, I will always be grateful to God, and I will always be grateful to you. Thank you for Blessing my beloved father, and Thank you for Blessing me.

It is a lovely facility; the grounds are spacious with walking paths, two gazebos, a patio, and a courtyard. The main floor has small cozy seating areas off the great room (which is lovely for visiting), a library, activities room, and a media room with the TV (most facilities we visited had a TV on all day on the first floor.) Their "beverage and snacks area" is actually a small dining area and kitchen, which was also terrific when we visited. Activities my mother enjoyed: performers who came a few times a week (especially singalongs); Ted Talk and discussion groups; arts & crafts; and physical therapy (because it was in a very nice room with floor to ceiling windows with a nice outside view). And we all loved the holiday "events", especially at Christmas. I highly recommend The Cliffs at Eagle Rock.
