I have absolutely nothing positive to say about this business. They are negative the entire time, they treat you borderline abusive, and they are clearly not there to help or educate you. On the contrary, they try to demean you into quitting the class and profession all together. The military style instructor should find a new career or retire. It is clear he isn't happy and takes it out on everyone in the class. He has a big time power trip going on when he should be educating his students. Then when you do quit in order to find a real class that can teach you properly in a reasonable environment, they immediately send you to collections for the payment for the rest of the class without first even letting you know that you owe anything. Please save yourself a lot of misery and find somewhere else to take your EMS, EMT or other medical training. Project Heartbeat is a disgrace to the profession. read more

I recently took the accelerated 5 week EMT course at PHB. Overall it was a great experience. The class is challenging and high pressured but if that's a concern perhaps EMS is not for you. Not sure if the place is still ran the same, the two main instructors were actually really nice and taught well. Pretty much All the proctors brought in to aid with skills testing were absolutely horrible. I was very nervous, they took that and ran with it. I called one proctor out by the name of Taylor who tried to fail one of my skills, telling her that what she's trying to mark me down from was not actually a fail per national registry and she tried to intimidate me by getting very close to my face with hers, then she ultimately failed me from the course essentially because I "assumed" part of a medical assessment(general impression) .... Part of information that she did not even provide. Another proctor failed me for not physically showing what I should have done on a specific skill, though I verbalized exactly what I would have done in a real life scenario and explained that I hadn't done it for the test due to not wanting to waste sterile materials. He then proceeds to come out to me, in front of my entire class and ask me what is wrong with me and yell about how I'm failing all of my skills . We were pressured into learning by being yelled at and embarrassed. All of my classmates were wondering why the EMT course we had all signed up for was acting para-military. I was almost not going to pursue EMS after project heartbeat's course because I left feeling incompetent, but I took another course which paramedics of decades of experience have taught and passed with flying colors. Been an EMT 2 years now, randomly thought of PHB and still don't see the teaching methods at this place necessary whatsoever. read more

The price was better than other options, there were a variety of times available, and the small class size offered great hands-on review. Clarence was engaging, fun, and provided great feedback and encouragement. We got out early so I had plenty of time to return to work and get back to my day. I took Project Heartbeat's 5 week EMT course last month. It was amazing! I can say that this was probably the most fulfilling academic experience I've had. As opposed to the standard community college EMT course, this program is very fast paced. I felt pretty conflicted between the two options at first. However, having completed the course, I'm confident this is the better option. Because of the fast paced learning and the teaching style, information is understood and retained, which creates an excellent medical provider. Instructors were all amazing. Instructors had a great, robust and diverse range of experiences in EMS and military. Instructors did a great job of explaining and preparing you for the actual realities of EMS. Staff all want to create competent EMT's. There was never a time I didn't feel like I had someone knowledgeable to ask questions. Plenty of hands-on time in addition to lectures, which is so important for EMT. Lots and lots of practice is available, with many volunteers and instructors offering to come in on their own time to provide extra practice. For our particular class they even allowed some of us to bring equipment home to practice with. Can't thank the whole staff and all the volunteers enough. Great program, worth every cent. Sign up! Go in with a good attitude, work hard and knock out this semester course in 5 weeks! You won't regret it when you finish. read more

One of the worst programs out there. If you care about advancing your education or want valuable on hand training, please go somewhere else. These teachers treat their students so poorly and put unnecessary stress on lessons, as in they make you feel stupid for even asking questions. I've asked many students, boys and girls, from my class and they've all agreed how bad this experience was. Brian and Eric need to reconsider other career options because no one should be able to harass students and yell to their faces. Other professionals (I've met during my ride-alongs) in the field have agreed that this program is trash and are very disrespectful to their students, who are paying thousands of dollars! With that kind of money they can at least provide cleaner equipment that won't break all the time! I've noticed some of their good reviews are from volunteers or staff, probably to hide the bad ones. Sometimes I even see bad reviews get taken down so we'll see if this one stays. Bottom line, don't waste your money. I've found other programs and schools after taking this one that teach you the correct way without all the attitude (and cheaper). read more

I'm calling Yelp today to make sure this stays here forever The 5 week accelerated program is one the worst classes I've ever taken in my life. If you want to pay almost 3000 dollars to be humiliated and called stupid then this is it. Brian is the walking definition of short guysyndrome. Talking to him, you have to be VERY careful, you ask the wrong question or do something wrong and you're getting yelled at in your face in front of your classmates. If you talk back then you can get kicked out of the entire program because "if you can't handle it here then you can't handle the real world." People who aspire to be in the EMS world shouldn't come here because you'll just have your dreams stepped on by the instructors. Angie was the only good person of the 3 teachers. You have questions, you go to her because she won't stand there and yell at you or mistreat you for asking "bad" questions. Eric is also the same as Brian. He walks around mugging you and if you dare talk to him your only response is attitude or he'll say something out of line to you. If your life is so miserable then you shouldn't be teaching a program like this and bringing others down to your level of sadness. The only good thing about this place was good were the friends I made. One thing is to give pressure while doing Real Worlds and another is straight up talking bad to your student's faces and knowing they can't do anything in return because it'll get them kicked. read more

I took the EMT course here and it was so extremely helpful and probably one of the best experiences I've had in my life! All of the instructors are super encouraging and even though this course could be tough sometimes, they're always available for help if you need it. They explain things very well with multiple stories of their own that are super interesting and intriguing to the field. I was able to form lasting relationships with my classmates which is super supportive in this industry. They helped my confidence in my abilities and are willing to spend hours outside of class to help you. They treat this place like a military base. They blow smoke in ur face call u dumb and will tell you that if you don't learn the way they want you to and how dash they want u to they will drop u. And that if another student thinks ur incompetent then u will get dropped. The owner Eric is racist and very disrespectful. Obviously no one gotta be butthurt but it's different when ur telling someone the way they learn is incompetent after telling everyone to let you know how they learn best. Another thing they don't tell you is that you have to have medical experience as in school wise or work wise to go to this program if you don't the instructors will be rude to you to the point where you feel as if you can't do it anymore. My friend goes here and observes how her peers are being treated and is actually shocked that this is a program where we are supposed to learn and get help but instead we are being told that if we don't understand immediately when shown once and told once we can get dropped bc they don't want there stats ruined read more

Completed my BLS renewal today at this location, and my EKG/Pharmacology cert a few months ago as well. Class was well-conducted, with information simplified and emphasized for what's most important. Mannequins and repeated practice for CPR, AED use, and infant/child resuscitation were the main focus of the BLS class. Highly recommend for easy renewal process. read more

Took an IV refresher course this morning. Great instructors answered all our questions and addressed any and all concerns. I really appreciated having multiple opportunities to perfect my technique. I was in the PHB 4 class of their accelerated EMT program and it was incredible. Their instructors genuinely care about their students and are supportive. I came out of that 5 weeks stronger than I ever knew- the program made me learn a lot about myself. I have since taken the NREMT and passed my first time with the minimum amount of questions possible (70) as have the rest of my classmates who have taken it. It's hard work and so so worth it in the end. If you are considering becoming an EMT and can invest the time for 5 weeks go with this program. You won't regret it. read more

First time here, really professional and very clean building. The atmosphere is non-stressful and very thorough. I like how they work with our union for work to be able to provide the variety of continuing education. I decided to become BLS/CPR certified and another coworker of mine from Kaiser recommended Project Heartbeart offered free to SEIU kaiser employees. I wasn't really sure what to expect coming in and how much I would learn but surprisingly, the course was very informative and hands on. I recently graduated from PHB 22 and this is an absolutely amazing program! Not only do they have a ton of resources and real world connections with different companies and healthcare professionals but all the staff if amazing! My teacher Brian was an absolute pleasure to learn from, he is clearly very passionate in this field and I believe this course wouldn't have been nearly the same without him. Clarence was the instructor for the BLS class that I attended. He is professional and has a good sense of humor. The classroom is very large with plenty of space for the hands-on portion of testing.
