We used GM for both siding and exterior paint, at first they were extremely communicative, friendly, and the siding project itself seemed to go fine other than a few mishaps. With the siding, we loved how it looked but the work crew lacked professionalism. They left nails all over our yard, ripped bushes out of the ground on a carefully lined walkway, and pulled our front bushes down so aggressively they've never come back up and will have to be ripped out. The nails were a huge concern because we have a dog, and had we run one over with a mower that could have been dangerous for us as well. Months later we are still finding them. The contractors did compensate us for the bush they trampled. On to the paint. The painting contractors were awful from start to (never really) finished. They were unprofessional, left things in our trees and bushes, left garbage around our house and yard, trampled the bushes we had just replaced from the contractors (we weren't reimbursed this time), moved our fence post to a crooked location that we can't fix. Beyond that, we had a dark gray color with white trim, if you've ever painted over a dark color with white you know you have to have MANY coats to not have seep through of the darker color. For some reason, they painted all of it the dark color and then went over the trim with white, so in many areas you can see the bleed through of the gray. It looks tacky and like we DIY'd it. Additionally, we asked for the garage to be painted white and they painted it dark gray like the house.. when we asked them to fix it, they didn't open it to paint so as soon as we opened the garage it cracked on the bending panel and the insulation came out. I got in contact with the contractors right away and Kara said she would send someone out. She didn't, and that was now almost 3 months ago and they've completely ghosted us with a broken garage. They've also left their porta potty in front of our house this entire time (3 months and counting). Our neighbors across the street also hired them for siding and paint and they've also completely ghosted them for the paint. We initially would have recommended them but they ended up screwing us over so I'd go anywhere else.

There were some highs and lows in my experience with KVN, but with several months behind me to give…read moreme perspective, I believe I can write a review that will be helpful and fair. First are the things I did wrong: 1. I didn't get any other bids so I spent the entire project wondering if I was paying too much. 2. I didn't understand KVN is a contractor only - the trucks that come out to do the work are going to have different company names on them. That information is clearly stated in the contract but, related to #1, I didn't read the contract closely and missed it. So I spent most of the project wondering how much more I was paying to have someone act as a go-between with these other companies. 3. Because of #1 and #2, throughout the weeks it took to remove old siding, put up new siding, put up the gutters, and paint the house I was always on edge and quick to anger when something went wrong. Notable missteps by KVN: 1. There was some miscommunication about a small part of the house that they considered porch and I considered house. When we realized this, first day, I could see their position and asked how much it would cost to add that part. I had three different people tell me they'd get back to me with a cost - they never did. 2. Whoever they used for gutters had to take them down and install new ones twice - it was the third install that finally worked. KVN didn't catch the first errors (but maybe they would have if we hadn't checked first) but they did tell them to redo the 2nd install before we were even told it was done. 3. The painter painted the windows shut. We didn't know that until after everything was signed and paid, so we just fixed it ourselves. But the contractor is responsible for the work of the subs - so I'll call this their mistake. What KVN did right was they seemed to genuinely want me to be a happy customer. I didn't realize how much that mattered until a neighbor was having some work done and I saw first-hand the difference between having a contractor who is hoping to leave the customer happy (KVN) vs. one who just wants to get paid (the neighbor's). Made me think I was ready to write a review, I hope it was fair.

Well...the quote for the windows was $5k. The quote to install them was $8k on top of that! Are you kidding me? After I stopped laughing I arranged to buy the windows but wanted to have Lifetime measure them to make sure that was done correctly. That price was $750 to come out and measure 3 windows! Begrudgingly I paid that just to be safe. The guy that came out to measure told me to just let them know if we had any install questions. The largest window came in two pieces. I reached out to find out if Milgard provides any kits or best-practice instructions for "mulling" the windows together to ensure a tight seal. Reached out again. And again. Finally got a call back to say "we're waiting on the Milgard rep and will get back to you"....well that never happened. Windows were installed and they are fine but the severe lack of follow up up by a company that will quote you $8,000 to install 3 windows left a very bad taste and we will look elsewhere for future window needs. RESPONSE TO OWNER: Sir, no amount of training, experience or insurance justifies $8,000 for installing 3 windows and your company's quote was nowhere near competive. I got two other quotes from outfits just as reputable as yours that were several thousand dollars less so you can step down from the pedestal....you're not the only reputable game in town. I would not be posting this review if the issue was soley cost. I can always go elsewhere for windows. Nor was I holding you accountable for installtion challenges. I was mainly holding you accountable for not following through when we were promised assistance with questions. There you failed. The main question was simply to ask if all the parts were there for the install. And since you didn't deliver my screens with the window delivery (I had to call back for those too), I'd say it was a valid question. BTW, being someone who mainly just posts negative reviews doesn't suggest anything about me or the honesty of my reviews. And it can be recycled at the end of its life - that seems better than throwing asphalt shingles into a landfill. Was their availability a bad sign? What was I missing? I'm so glad that I decided to check Northstar's references (glowing) and move forward. They were awesome! Their install team was professional and courteous, from repairing my home's sheathing and installing the house wrap, to interacting with the windows contractor and installing the siding. They clearly had experience installing the product (Metallion's seamless siding). (Example: They were able to disguise a 4" discrepancy in elevation between one corner of the house and an adjacent corner 30' away. Wow!) Most importantly, they were polite and accommodating to my many questions and requests. They even threw in some extra work at cost. We are delighted with the end result. We regularly receive compliments on how our house looks. We are thrilled to have new siding that never needs a drop of paint, a fact that offsets the higher materials cost than cement board. (Speaking of 'offsetting,' the siding manufacturer (SteelScape, in WA) operates on hydroelectric power, and the siding is recyclable at end of life. If you're replacing your siding, consider the material's entire lifecycle.) I would recommend NorthStar Restorations without hesitation. If you can get on their schedules, count yourself lucky. PS - If you're removing your old siding, this is the time to insulate your home. Ask Northstar to install 1" foam board onto your home's sheathing. This will help to prevent thermal bridging. The foam board increased the project cost about 20%: well worth it to increase comfort all year 'round. While you're at it, have NW Weatherization dense pack cellulose into your stud bays -- dense pack cost another 10%. Now our walls are a true R-18 -- no penalty for heat loss through the framing. I would have laid 6' of weed mat around the house and landscaping, to pick up errant shavings of siding scrap at the very end. I would have negotiated a round of touch-up work. Small bare patches, where the color coating gets scratched off during installation, seem unavoidable.

They want too much of the money up front which seems to make them lose interest. 90% before the job is done. This star value could change if things look up. Update: Job was finished and work was done well. Continue with having the company credit us on the final bill for the air conditioner repair we already paid for. We have the pictures of their worker standing on the unit and the dent it cause. The salesman that does the estimates are very professional and make you feel like the company knows what they're doing. But not an actual representation of the workers and billing department. I will change the rating to a 3 because the work was good.
