Recently moved to the Mission Hills area from Talmadge and decided to try this closer spot for my usual gel mani and regular pedi. I was hoping I found my new neighborhood nail spot, but honestly my gel manicure looks awful and I'm super disappointed. The vibe there is kinda cold and felt very rushed. The manicurist was polite but careless. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about efficiency but she nicked BOTH of my thumbs during the cuticle trim, which is incredibly rare for me. If she had slowed down this probably would not have happened. In addition, she didn't fully cover my nails properly with the polish so the tips are darker and look splotchy overall. Also, she did not go down far enough to cuticle or even down the sides of the nails with polish, so it looks like I got them done a week ago and not 5 hours ago. On the plus side, they did do a good job on the pedicure. Total was around $115, including tip. Unfortunately, I will be going back to Kensington Nails (where Kate and her team do an amazing job every single time, highly recommend!) to fix these. I'd rather do the drive than have a sloppy, low-quality manicure with cuts on my cuticles. read more

We were two pedicure walk-in appointments, and in the middle is Mother's Day! The staff greeted us immediately even while everyone was already busy with their customers. We were still greeted, questions answered and barely waited a few minutes before being greeted and assigned to our chairs. They ladies were very welcoming and wanted to understand all our needs and concerns before getting started. During the pedicure they were meticulous about the experience and the results. Monumental Fail. Booked 2 basic pedis for 1:30 and arrived 5 minutes early and we were asked to come back later. 20 min later, we sit down for pedis. Someone starts with my BF first while I sat soaking in cold water/non jets for over 30 minutes. The tech finishes his pedi, then goes to eat her lunch in front of us while I am still waiting. Other staff is busy with the TV and incense display while I wait. Finally another tech finishes with a client and it's go time for me... By now, I have advised 3 techs that I no longer have time for polish due to waiting so long. Then cuticle cut too close and I am now bleeding. BF went to Raplhs while I finished my pampering/torture. My BF had some callus removal with a pumice block(sweet) But I did not get that offered. Could not wait to leave. And lastly, the poor nail cutting was the topper. I had a really disappointing and painful experience at this nail salon and would not recommend it. I made an appointment for four people, but when we arrived they didn't have space for us. After waiting, I was finally seated for my manicure, and from the start the technician was extremely aggressive and impatient. Shortly after, I was moved to a pedicure chair to receive both my manicure and pedicure at the same time. The manicurist continued to be very rough and drilled into my nail beds to the point where it hurt and burned. I told her multiple times that she was hurting me, but she kept going and said she would "take care of me." On top of that, the pedicure technician used the wrong color, and the manicurist shaped my nails very short and pointed, which was not what I asked for. When I told her I was unhappy with the shape and length, she called over the manager. Instead of addressing my concerns, the manager told me I was wrong and that the technician was doing it correctly. It got worse from there. The technician started speaking negatively about me in front of the staff and my friends who were with me. After several more minutes of her drilling into my nail beds and causing pain, I told her I wanted to stop the service. In response, she cut all my nails down extremely short and continued drilling into my nail beds, which was very painful. The entire experience felt invasive and upsetting. I was crying and asking them to stop, yet the manager still charged me for the services and showed no concern for how distressed I was. Overall, this was one of the worst salon experiences I've ever had. I left in pain and very upset, and I would strongly caution others before going here. read more

I typically never leave reviews, however, after seeing all the other reviews I felt I had to. When I first started coming here it was inconsistent because of who was working the front. But ever since Linh started it has been a great experience. She is so fun to talk to and helps me decide what to do with my nails. (I feel it is important to note that just because she speaks fluent English does not mean she shouldn't be able to speak in her NATIVE language. That doesn't mean she is talking badly or angry) I used to go to the same nail tech for over 15 years and switched to this location because Vy is so great at doing dip nails. She always helps me find the exact color I want and even gives me ideas on what to do when I can't decide. Moon is the BEST tech for pedicures and takes her time and is so thorough. I will say you have to find the right people for what you need - not everyone is going to be perfect. But once you do, this location is great. Parking is super easy, and free (Pavilions parking garage), which is already a win compared to a lot of other salons in the area. The location is convenient and easy to find. The pricing is reasonable, especially considering the quality of service. It's definitely more affordable than some of the trendier salons nearby, but you still get great results. They offer a wide range of services, especially the different levels and types of pedicures. The nail techs are skilled, they have done intricate designs for me, as well as fixed any issues I may have incurred a week of less into my new set (I had gotten the chrome and it tends to chip off the edges fast) The staff is really kind and welcoming, and they didn't rush through my appointment. It was busy when I walked up, so I signed in and sat outside expecting to wait. I was greeted and told to pick my color 3 minutes later. I live around the block and have been coming here for years. I stopped in today because my usual nail tech at another salon is on vacation and thought this would be a convenient temporary option. My experience started off well--the male tech doing my gel manicure and the female tech doing my pedicure were both fine. Unfortunately, things quickly took a turn when the young woman who answers the phones (and speaks perfect English) took over my manicure. Her attitude was unnecessarily rude and made it clear she did not want to be there. She repeatedly moved my hands roughly and acted irritated, even though I was polite and patient the entire time. I've been getting my nails done every 2-3 weeks for years and never had an experience quite like this. I requested a simple, solid color on both mani and pedi, and at the end I asked for an extra coat on my toes. She reacted with clear annoyance, turned away, and began speaking in Vietnamese in a tone that made it obvious she thought my request was ridiculous. It wasn't. On a previous visit, a different staff member who handles payments demanded I tip the technician--which I always do, even when I'm not thrilled with the service. After today, I won't be returning. I got a dip manicure that ordinarily lasts 3 weeks only lasted 2 days. I was weirded out that she was filing the edges of my nails after they were sealed with the top gel coat but I didn't say anything-- because she's the expert. Sure enough, she broke the seal off every one of my nails and the polish kept chipping almost immediately. Literally the worst manicure I ever got. These photos were taken 2 days after my manicure. For context: I do not work with my hands nor have I done anything rough that would warrant my nails to chip like this. The most laborious thing I might've done was wash dirty dishes... to which a mail dip should not have been affected like this. I gave 2 stars due to paying a great price (only $50). Look. I hate to do this. I've been going to Professionail for years because I can always count on them to give me a solid pedicure, plus they have parking and rarely make you wait. This time, I got paired with a clearly inexperienced technician, which made the service take far longer than it typically does, the filing of the nails touched and hurt my skin, and she kept bumping the UV machine against the fresh paint and having to re-coat it. I also asked for callous removal and it was barely done/not done correctly. That isn't even my issue. Even though they've been SO nice to me before, I still don't expect to be cuddled with attentive customer service, so when someone is particular rude I've got to say something. When I got in, a lady I hadn't seen before yelled at me across the salon asking me what I was looking for, picked up my bag and moved it without first asking for permission, explicitly asked the lady next to me how she was gonna pay for the tip because she had paid with card and told her not to tip on the card, even though she wanted to, and while I was paying proceeded to speak to my tech as I was tipping her in cash in Vietnamese even though she had used perfect English during all of the interactions I mentioned, which may not have been meant to exclude me, but sure did. I get it, there may be so many other things going on that I have no clue about, and bad days happen to all kinds of people, but instead of getting my nails done feeling like a little treat, it was a weird vibe and I won't be back. read more

I'm not one to typically leave reviews but I felt compelled to this time. I live in the area and have been to this salon many times - usually it turns out great which is why this review is still 4 stars. If I were to give this review solely based on today it would have been more like a 1 or 2 star review. My technician was kind and pleasant enough, but not only did she make me jump in pain twice she also left my nails looking so unfinished I had to go home and fix them up. She seemed either scatter brained or possibly new to the dip process, but either way I was very unenthused by the end. This will not make me never go back, but I will definitely be a lot more selective on my technicians next time. UPDATE: 8 days after getting these nails done, one of the nails snapped in half. I had noticed a crack/line running all the way across this nail only 3 days after getting them done but it didn't snap until now (see photo). Luckily this salon offers 10 day warranties so I will go back and have someone (not the original woman) fix it. UPDATE 2: It's now about 2 weeks after the initial dip set and yet another nail has snapped in the same way the first one did. At this point I'm dropping the stars to 3 and I will be going back in to have the set removed - end of story. This is ridiculous. read more

I've been coming here for 4 years and something has changed. I was charged $50 for a gel pedicure and $72 for a dip manicure over real nails with gel. They charged $10 for "design" and $7 for "long nails", on top of the $55 for the base price. I see why they aren't busy anymore and I won't be going back. I used to think it was worth the convenience because it's behind my house. Not any more. Back to Hillcrest. read more
