I have a 17 yr old vehicle thats rear left brake caliper was sticking. Upon further inspection, the rear left brake pad had worn down to the metal because of the sticking caliper. So I brought it here to get repaired. The good: They do an inspection with photos and put it online for you to see. The service writer was patient and helpful in figuring out what work to get done and was upfront about costs. They offer free loaner cars, which I did not use. The are ASE certified mechanics. The bad: The original inspection addressed everything else they wanted to replace and did not address what caused the sticking caliper - the reason I was there. They did go back and look at it though once I asked, and said the pins probably rusted. They wanted to replace a strut, front brakes and rear brakes, secure a heat shield better, degrease the engine to pinpoint a leak, and do an oil change. It's good to know about that stuff but the rear left brake was the pressing issue. Was originally quoted $1,175 to replace just the rear brakes: new calipers, new rotors, new pads on both the rear left and rear right (but not the front.) The car is only worth $1500, it's a Scion/Toyota not a Mercedes or BMW and it's old. I had been quoted $850 to do all that somewhere else with 3 yr warranty, new parts etc. So I asked what's the minimum they could do to get all 4 brakes working and they said they could replace just the rear left caliper and rear left brake pads for $450. The brake pads come in sets for both rear wheels but the mechanic wouldn't put the rear pads on the right side because he wouldn't work with the rear right caliper - it's too old and rusty, might break (though I would've taken that risk.) He would want to replace it instead. Well if I replaced every old rusty part of my car that still works I'd have a new car, and they charge $300+ to put a new caliper in. And they don't machine resurface rotors even if they're thick enough to. They said they want to warranty the rotors for 3 years instead. Well my car might not last another 3 years. So I chose the $450 option. When I picked it up they gave me the breakdown of the work: $192 for a remanufactured caliper sold at NAPA a few blocks away from the shop for less than $100. $50 for brake pads sold at NAPA for $25. $178 for the labor to install a new caliper and pads on just the rear left wheel. The brakes vibrate because they don't resurface rotors. They gave me the extra set of brake pads that came in the box they wouldn't put on the right side without replacing the caliper. I see a lot of good reviews here but nobody is saying what they paid. And they don't want to work with old rusty parts, just replace them all. Maybe that's typical, but 4 or 5 stars would be going above typical. And the shop is only open until 5pm. It took a week to get me in. All that said, this isn't a negative review. I'm just saying this may be a small, honest family owned shop in Corcoran with just a few mechanics and service people, but it isn't a thrifty one. Far from it. But I do now know all the work my car needs done in the near future and how to tackle it with a more thrifty shop and a probably a parts dealer/service locator like Tirerack. read more

I contacted this place after I found it on the list of the top 10 auto repair shops in the Twin Cities. They were very interactive and they answered my question about my transmission in a very objective way. They hold a certain certification for n auto mechanic that many repair shops brag about being the standard. They even offered a free inspection on my transmission and my car in general. I made an appointment went there and indeed they did in an inspection for free and they discussed with me the products they can offer. I'm planning on taking my car there this winter to change the brakes. They texted me the inspection result and it agreed with my Toyota agency inspection done last month. The manager Alan took his time to discuss little details with me. The front desk lady was very courteous and very professional Despite me having free inspection. They even install starters and digital ones too , linked to smart phones. Parking lot Was ample but the waiting room is small just a few chairs since they have loaner cars for customers not to wait too long. What really surprise me was the restroom I thought I was in a four stars hotel restroom: it's so well maintained nice exceptional decorative touch and cleanliness for car repair shop. read more

The only mechanics that have ever taken the time to fully explain the issues and options to me. I have gone here for years to service my car and camper, trailers ect. You name it they work on it. Pro-tech has always saved the day. This is a family run business and they treat everyone no matter what your spending, like family. They offer free loaner cars to borrow while your car is getting worked on. They do a very thorough inspection and always communicate and get approval prior to starting any work. I used this place for a scheduled oil change via using their Mail flyer, in hindsight I now wish I had not. I was looking for a new auto repair place to trust my car with. The process for scheduling and given an option for a loaner car was outstanding, however, my concern after picking up my 50k car that I take extremely great care of was the fact that it had 11 miles added to it for a test ride. (I took pictures before and after appointment) Communication was given to Pro-tech twice that my car had new tires/wheels and newly resurfaced wheels, balanced, and alignment performed etc.,. However I was given a long, drawn out, possibly false reason for the excessively long test ride. This is first indication of lying. Since the last communication from Pro-Tech I have texted them twice with NO RESPONSE, second indication of lying. I also think the price for an oil change here (with coupon) is WAY overpriced and I assume they had fun with driving my car on the test ride that should have been 2-3 miles tops. It goes without saying to my fellow consumers that I would be extremely apprehensive in using this place. I also think the Marketing ploy of, "Let's tug at heartstrings to consumers and mention on our website we are a Family Owned Business" strategy is not working for me anymore. Lesson learned, any company that uses a mail flyer and "we are a family owned business" to obtain business.. is most likely NOT a good business to use. read more

Unfortunately, it is getting harder and harder to find honest and trustworthy people who put the best interest of their customers above all else, especially their own profit. After my first visit, I am blown away about the care and effort that went in to helping a customer they just met. I could tell they were genuinely more interested in earning my patronage as a long term customer, rather than trying to make a quick buck. Free use of loaner cars helps out a lot! Honesty, honesty, honesty! Sadly you can't find this at every auto shop out there. These guys here are very knowledgeable and will not advise unnecessary repairs if your pocket book isn't ready for them. Beats going to the dealerships any day.
