To my surprise and dismay, I heard the owner saying "oh you're buying all of them" while I was picking up a few of the papers. That is not true, I was not. When I reached the counter, she began to yell at me that there was a 5 item limit to each newspaper. I had a few more than that, and I said this policy wasn't posted anywhere. She continued to yell and scream at me and said I could only purchase 5, while the man in the store took my others and put them aside. I told her please don't yell at me, don't yell at your customers. She kept yelling and said she knows she is a bad person and she was so sorry. Then she yelled some more, "I'm happy they won." The man ringing me up just kept saying, "I"m sorry. Sorry." And she continued to yell at me as I left the store. I don't understand how she was trying to berate me and apologize profusely at the same time. Nevertheless, never again, Newsbeat. I will never give you my business. I really should have just ordered the newspapers online through the Chronicle. Way to try to steal a customer's joy.

As I passed one section of the shop a wonderful fragrance teased my nose- ooh what is it with so many bottles before me. I went toward the shop guy and had to ask. He let me smell 2 products. One I knew wasn't it. The infused pomegranate was $60 and the parfume was $120+ so I selected the artichoke looking or pomegranate little sculpture. They have the most unique cards and items that subtly gave myself a whimsy yes: get it or a chuckle. I needed to get them. Doc was correct and knows me like a book. She said Go in, you like that kind of stuff. Yes indeedy!!! I really enjoyed it in there and so glad I went in.

While we were checking out, Dawn was getting ready to put out a few more squishies. She took the time to show my son each one she was tagging before putting them on the shelf. She absolutely didn't have to do that--she could have just walked by--but that small act of kindness meant so much! The NeeDoh and squishy craze is real and I don't think employees get enough appreciation for dealing with the constant demand. Dawn's patience and kindness made my son's day. The selection of cards for Father's Day was pretty depleted but that makes sense the day before the holiday. I managed to find a couple and the cutest shawl. Usually the service is pretty good. However on this visit Lisa was my cashier and gave me attitude after I politely asked her not to grab my phone. I held up my phone (with the screen towards her) so she could scan the clearly visible bar code for the use of my birthday coupon. She grabbed my phone. After I said something she said, "well make the bar code larger!" with MUCH attitude. I told her to ask me too - not just take my phone. She was intent on arguing, and added she has taken others' phones, and no one had a problem. I was floored! I have been there too many times to count and never had anyone take my phone (instead of using their hand scanner). Nor have I ever received such attitude. She made what started out as a great experience shopping for others to one tainted by her attitude and unprofessionalism.

My friend purchased a sign-in book for the ceremony and wanted her husband's name on the front. My friend asked me if I could write it nicely, or if I knew anyone who could. In that instance, you know you should entrust that kind of thing to an expert, and Ana is an expert. She responded very promptly and had questions that put me at ease immediately: what was the book made of? Was it something porous? Going back and forth with a grieving family was slow-going, but Ana was patient and communicative, even with the tight turnaround. She was clear and upfront about what we should expect, and the price for her work was very reasonable. And the finished product was lovelier than I could have imagined. It was thoughtfully placed and even packaged beautifully. My friend loved the book so much and was so happy with the result. The whole experience was so positive and easy that I won't hesitate to add calligraphy to any special events that come along, because of Ana. Thank you Ana, for helping this grieving family!

They didn't have any small sizes, but I figured I could make a medium work since I didn't wanna go home empty-handed. Over the years, I misplaced all of my stuff from my college days, so I jumped at the opportunity to find a replacement while on my way to Sac for the weekend. The store doesn't offer posters of the university or of anything really, except the egghead sculptures. No thanks. They do offer plenty of gifts and accessories though, including a collection of UCD sanrio products. Being on campus, of course they sell electronics as well as textbooks downstairs. When making my purchase, the staff ran into technical issues at the front counter, but they eventually found a resolution without too much of a delay. Parking is free on Saturdays and Sundays.
