When I arrived as a walk-in today, the receptionist who is very nice said they would offer a discount. They offer nail services on the ground floor and massage services upstairs. The address is 3014 Pacific Avenue on the corner just next to the florist. The interior is clean and they have a great billing system for swift service. My main problem is that few of these people who offer nail services cannot communicate in English. Secondly I had a male operator who spoke almost no English. I asked for a standard manicure/pedicure and he kept pointing to the menu and I acknowledged as such, yet the pricing was $70 which was ridiculous. Again, the language barrier is evident as I begged him to cut "short" which fell upon deaf ears. This is the third time this has occurred and it's bothersome. He did a decent job with the nails, but when someone can't communicate, it is poor service. I was charged $70 and the receptionist reduced it to $60, which I thought was still way too high to cut nails and file. I do not blame the manicurist, I blame to owner or manager who operates and manages this team of about 6 on a Monday morning. I left a $5 Tip on a service that was just gouging. There marketing worked as I did visit based on reaching out. But the pricing is confusing and when the manicurist cannot communicate, it is all the more problematic to recommend. When a business mishandles a client's belongings, the bare minimum expectation is accountability and respect. What I experienced instead was repeated dismissal and lack of compassion. This is not a full service spa with steam rooms and full bass. It is a straight massage spot, but it's very clean and quiet which all that is needed for a great massage. They offer deep tissue, Swedish, Thai, reflexology, hot stones, cupping, full body scrub, pregnancy, and I'm sure a few other options. I tend to do deep tissue myself, but every now and then a Swedish is a nice call. Parking is really easy, it's located in a large shopping center, so there's plenty of free parking spaces right out front. Unfortunately, my recent experience was really disappointing. Since my friend wasn't available, I booked with a different therapist and asked for the deep tissue upgrade. Before we started, I clearly explained that I'm a distance runner and was looking for something between a sports massage and deep tissue: focused work, but not the kind of super intense pressure that leaves you sore for days. The massage therapist was so nice and I really thought we were aligned. But pretty quickly, something felt off. It took me a while to realize what it was, but there was no music playing at the start of the session. The therapist didn't turn it on until 20-30 minutes in, which made the whole beginning feel awkward and not very relaxing. There were also some basic details that were missed. I had forgotten to put my hair up, and instead of helping manage it (like placing a towel over it, which most therapists do) my hair kept getting caught and falling onto my neck. Rather than addressing it, the therapist just avoided working on my neck altogether which is an area that really needed attention. As for the massage itself, the technique just didn't meet expectations. At times it felt like the therapist was attempting pressure point work, but without enough pressure to actually be effective. I did mention that I could handle more pressure, but there wasn't much adjustment. Overall, it didn't feel like a deep tissue or sports massage, more like a very light, unfocused session that didn't address what I had communicated beforehand. I left feeling frustrated and honestly pretty upset that I had used my monthly massage on an experience that didn't meet my needs. I typically tip 20-30%, but this time I only tipped 15% because of how disappointed I was.
