JED'S CUSTOMER SERVICE NEEDS A SERIOUS UPGRADE!!!!! Called him to talk about my broken MacBook and he began with being receptive (first 30 seconds) but after just ONE minute he became dismissive and rude. When I told him I was hoping for a 1-day to 1 weekend turnaround. He said that I shouldn't worry about the turnaround time of a day or a weekends length since the MacBook had been broken for months anyway. He said I was being "ridiculous" in the most pompous tone he could muster. When I tried to explain that the SAME signs and issues had occurred a year and a half before and was fixed within 1.5 hrs at the Apple Genius Bar or that other techs had listened to me thoroughly and come to similar conclusions that it was in fact the operating system and could be handled within a day. He proceeded to say "Anyway!!!" in a very loud tone (I pulled the phone from my ear at that point) while I was talking, rudely interrupting me and then changing the subject. I looked down at my phone flabbergasted. I do not understand why Jed would think a new customer would EVER continue to use his services with an attitude like that. I disconnected the phone immediately. It lasted a mere 2 minutes!!! Whether my computer could be fixed in a day or a weekend or even a week, I'm open to it all, as long as the end result is a functioning MacBook. He didn't get a chance to know that because he was being obnoxious and unprofessional. As an elite yelper, I do my best to be as detailed and honest as possible. From my experience, I wouldn't even bother with paying for his services, customer service is of TOP PRIORITY and the way he spoke to me (in a mere 2 min phone call at that) was enough to make me disconnect the phone call right away. I've been in contact with a few techs (requesting estimated quotes and turn around times) and this was the ONLY negative incident. I'm still shaking my head at him calling me "ridiculous"!! The purpose of the phone call was to be consulted and informed. NOT disrespected and dismissed. I'm sure there will be a reply from this person. He was very thorough and went above and beyond in replacing my hard drive. He performed a full scan and caught an issue that was taking up a ton of space that I had completely missed. He also made several suggestions about how to increase my computer's performance and better secure my data, all of which I really appreciated and am implementing now. The real deal in every respect. I would have given 6 stars if I could. Seven! My story: 3 weeks on and off with Apple Support (including a remote diagnostic sent to their ninja-engineer squad) with the final verdict: solid state portion of the Fusion Drive failing. Took to best known Mac Repair Store in Manhattan and got $600+ est to replace solid state portion of the Fusion Drive, which seemed unwise to me, it being a 6 year old iMac. What if the non-ssd portion of the hard drive fails a week later? Then I found Jed Weaver/Pro Mac NYC. His estimate was less than one third the Manhattan store's price, I agreed, and the repair was put in motion. I was offered a choice of replacement parts, with very low mark-up prices compared to Amazon list, which is where the new SSD hard drive would be sourced. Every time I suggested that spending more money would be ok I was patiently talked out of spending more than he deemed was warranted. The repair was estimated to take 3-4 days but one last thing...Jed Weaver/Pro Mac NYC wanted to spend a little extra time on a hunch they had that my whole problem was software related...I was skeptical, I mean, two Apple authorities had diagnosed a failing SSD portion of the Fusion drive, but in the end I thought, why not? The upshot? For even less than original estimate (substantially less), Jed Weaver/Pro Mac NYC fixed my iMac by patiently, thoroughly and exhaustively combing through the 6+ years of accumulated software detritus on my machine and here I am: 3 months later and still enjoying brand-newish performance from my mac! Oh, and he restored almost every file I had, from a very sketchy set of Time-machine back-ups. I can't recommend this person highly enough. No matter where I am, how far away I move, how many more macs I own- this is my guy. And if you're smart he'll be your guy too. An Apple savant with integrity, it doesn't get any better than this. ps. Incredibly Amazing! In short, the price was EXTREMELY fair/reasonable, the service impeccable, and the information/advice was second to none. I was "wowed" by the experience I had working with Pro Mac NYC (Jed). I reached out to him regarding issues with my 2010 Macbook Pro. After emailing him, he said I could simply leave it with the doorman. I did, and within 12 hours Jed emailed me regarding exactly what was wrong the the computer, and offered a number of solutions that would allow me to get my baby up and running. Did a google search for SSD replacement for my iMac that crashed. Apple couldn't assist because my machine was older. They gave me some recommendations. I decided to do some leg work and found Jed. He was so nice and always accessible to answer my questions. He kept me informed during the entire process since my Mac had crashed and my time machine was all I had left for a back up. The work was done quickly and extremely inexpensive and he recommends what parts to get if you prefer to shop around you have that freedom as well. I took all of his recommendations and even on the day of pick up. He gave me more insight and tips to make my computer run more efficient and ways to get a longer life out of it. I was all ready to bite the bullet and buy a new Mac as my MacBook Pro from 2011 was starting to slow to a crawl and I was being greeted with that dreaded multicolored spinning circle of death more times than I'd like to remember. I went so far as to go to the Apple Store twice and spec out my new machine. It was going to run me about $3000 all in. But before I pulled the trigger I researched local Apple consultants because I was having some issues with malware that a new machine wouldn't solve since my plan was transfer everything from the old machine to the new machine. Long story short, during my research I found Pro Mac NYC and Jed Weaver and am I every happy that I did. For $150 and the cost of an SSD drive, Jed gave my machine new life. He resolved the malware problem, cleaned up some other junk that was slowing down my machine, installed the SSD drive, and literally saved me more than $2500...at least for a few years. Despite the fact that my LapTop was completely crashed & crammed with unnecessary (even malicious) software, and my back-ups were incorrectly organized, Jed managed to get my computer running (faster) and was able to retrieve all my important data. It took a few days because I had large amounts of data to move between several HDs with different connection speeds. But he did it. This might be the most deserved 5-star review I've ever given on Yelp--Jed is as good as it gets. So my computer died about a week ago with no foreshadowing. Just one morning boom, wouldn't turn on. Gray screen of death. PANIC. Especially because I'm a cheap idiot and kept putting off buying an external hard drive to back up the incredible amount of crap I've accumulated on this old MacBook Pro. Ugh, why do I do this to myself. So, said PANIC led me to Yelp, where I found Jed, aka Pro Mac NYC. Not too many reviews, but I thought I'd give it a shot since he seemed accommodating and knowledgable. I called him with my problems and he was able to fit me in that day--awesome! It only took him 24 hours to get back to me with what was wrong with my computer and the steps we needed to take to fix it. He was 100% upfront about the costs from the get go, which is super helpful to me as a perpetually cash-strapped student. What he quoted me was probably like 1/8 of what I thought it was going to cost for all he did, but then again, what do I know about computers. In any case, it was extremely reasonable. He's given me back my computer in amazing shape and then some. He even showed me a few new tricks on it and installed some extras that he thought I would find helpful. I don't think I've ever experienced such thoughtful and attentive services, especially not for my computer (ahem, Apple Store.) Anyway, tl;dr: Jed is awesome. I messed up the upgrade for my older iMac and was stuck. I searched Craigslist this morning and saw Pro Mac's ad and called Jed. I explained the situation and he changed his schedule a bit to come over and finish my upgrade. He was here within 45 minutes as he promised and started working on the iMac after asking a few questions and confirming the situation. While the iMac was upgrading, he offered to look at my other MAC and we updated that as well to the latest version. He left me with my upgrade in a good spot and instructions for restoring from my backup. He didn't need to stay and charge me money for that and he was honest about it. He did say he would call me later in the day to make sure everything worked and if it didn't he could remote in. The upgrade finished fine and I restored my data. As he promised, he called me later to check and everything was fine. I've used a couple of techs before a long time ago and I would recommend Jed for any work you may have. read more

Jed is a genius! He diagnosed and fixed the issue with my iMac after I was about to abandon all hope. I'd been having issues with my iMac and several trips to the Geek Squad repair desk at Best Buy proved useless because the same problem would keep occurring. My experience was less than satisfying with Jed Weaver. I called him because of the enthusiastic reviews on Yelp when my wife's Mac Mini would not start. He came right away, the next day, and spent 15 minutes with the machine and said it was either a logic board or a power supply and that I had to take it in to Apple. He said he felt bad about charging me $30 for the call when he didn't really do anything but diagnose the problem. On the way out, he asked to see my computer, the same model. It was working very slowly, so he spent the rest of the hour cleaning up the clogs and mentioned that I'd have a faster machine if I increased the RAM. Then he got up and called it "an even hour," and asked for $85. The next day, my computer was operating as slowly as it was before. He called and sent me an email saying he had 4K of RAM which he'd happily install for $50 plus $25 for labor. When I sent him an email asking him if the upgrade would be guaranteed (as it was from a third-party vendor; i.e. him), he never responded. He seemed more interested in generating work than worrying about getting my wife's computer back on line. I can't honestly recommend him. read more

Jed spent 3 hours working on my PC. He came ill prepared, but more importantly he came with very little knowledge on how to effectively remedy a computer issue. He spent a half hour just trying to get into PC "safe mode". A PC expert should at the very least know about safe mode. His solution for all your PC issues is to get rid of Windows and load the Linux operating system. After he loads it, he tells you, "look it's all working now". Actually it's not, that only tells me the problem is not my hard drive. I was losing access to all my emails. After I told him Linux was not a solution, he attempted to load windows 10 but he came with a defective flash drive so he couldn't load it. This pseudo expert after three hours of not solving any of my issues tells me that he was not charging me for three hours, but just the initial $100 that we agreed to. So I guess today anyone can call themselves a PC expert, come to your residence, pretend they know what they are doing, and walk away with $100 without having fixed your problem or tell you he got close to fixing it as I was told. I then took my PC to Shine electronics on the UWS, explained what this scam artist did, and they solved my problem almost immediately. I hired him based on all his positive reviews. Maybe he only knows about Macs or perhaps he's using smoke and mirrors there as well. Don't make the same mistake as I did, DO NOT REWARD FAILURE.Buyer Beware!! read more

Although I was wary about going to a stranger's private office, I had a great experience with Pro Mac. I originally came to Jed to remove my macbook's hard drive after a genius told me that the computer was officially dead due to water damage. Turns out it wasn't dead at all. Jed managed to reboot my computer, clean out the caches and grit in the hardware, and find a replacement program for a minor external piece that was broken. Even though I was there for much longer than I expected (due to the fact that my computer wasn't actually dead), he gave me a very fair price.
