¡LESS THAN WORTHLESS! First, I brought my top of the line $2000 Carver Sunfire Subwoofer and was asked for a deposit if $85 to be credited towards the repair. After almost a year of evasive responses, they finally told me that the mother board needed replacement and that there none available (discontinued) and when I went to pick it up, I brought my other subwoofer (a Kiplish) that had developed a hum noise and they asked for another $85 deposit instead of crediting the previous one since the deposit was predicated on successful repair. When they balked, I foolishly, went ahead and paid it. After another 8 months of back and forth question and evasive responses about how hard they were working to find a replacement part which, turned out to be the motherf******g board, again! TOTAL RIP-OFF. I should have read better into the non-existing signs. This is a STEALTH shop, NOT on 18th Street as listed here, but a a few doors off the corner, on an alley and hidden behind a roll down steel door with no exterior business signs and, even when the gate is rolled up, you can't tell what they peddle, which is collecting $85 for non-repairs. I've brought most of my finicky Marshall amps here and a recent fix for a fender vibroverb. The owner is able to fix any problem in a reasonable time and price. They also now have street access which is a boost for pick up and drop off. The owner will gladly share tech tips and knowledge should you have any follow up questions or observations. NEVER use these jerks! They REFUSE to sell you a simple part you need that can ONLY be bought through a licensed Roland dealer, so, they hold you hostage. I dropped off an old Ampeg combo that I have had for ages. Its had problems before with the power amp and finding someone to repair solid state is nigh impossible. I was excited when I found this place and rushed to drop it off. I didn't hear anything for about a month, so I called. After finally finding my invoice, they assured me the parts were on their way and I would have it back soon. Three weeks later I called again, and they seemed confused and unsure of when it would be ready. I was losing my patience, but I chalked it up to an obsolete amp with hard to source parts. I called again another two weeks later and it still wasn't ready. Finally a few days passed and the amp is done. I rushed over to get it before leaving town and they tell me that their computer system is down, they can't bill me and they don't even know how much the parts and labor cost. They asked me to wait another day or two and they would have the paperwork ready. After waiting a full three months (I am not exaggerating - dropped off begging of April, got it back late June) I refused and demanded they come up with a number and give me my amp. They obliged and admittedly undercharged me. They didn't seem happy about it, but I wasn't exactly happy either. Sadly, when I got home, I couldn't even get the clean channel to turn on and the distortion channel buzzed badly. I had to tinker with it myself for another few days before it worked properly again. I really wish this place was organized because there are so few repair shops like them. I just feel like they ignored my repair and didn't bother to do it right nor in a timely fashion. I guess you need to bring in a Moog or a Sound Craft Ghost to get their attention. read more

This guy totally sucks took over a month to 'repair' my Mackie HR824. When the speaker had been 'repaired' I went told the bloke off to being so tardy, paid and took the speaker home, plugged it in played it ... and it was still messed up. So I drove straight back had another shout at the guy and told him to hook it up to the signal generator and then he goes 'oh yeah it is still messed up' he insisted that now he would repair it now he knows what's wrong. Took another week after persistent calling and I go back and he demos the speaker attached to a signal generator and it's 'fixed', finally. I was reasonably happy since I had a working speaker at least so I thought ... A few months later after getting some time to sit down and have a proper session on my music gear things didn't quite sound right, it could have been my music but I was suspicious. So I hooked up a sine wave and started rewiring testing different signal sources etc then on a whim I decided to try inverting a channel. OMG! The woofer's terminals were rewired the wrong way around so my speakers were out of phase! So the speaker still wasn't fixed. It was now time for me to get the soldering iron out. pffft. Basically if you goto this guy after reading my review you're a complete mug. When you get stung don't come crying. read more

Our CDJ's went down two days before Folsom Street fair, so the chance of finding rentals was slim to none. The guys at Pro AV were just fabulous. Yes, we paid a rush charge but with the repair it was still less expensive plus we had our own gear back. A week later another DJ blew a speaker(surprise on that!) and they repaired it within a few days. The service was excellent. Great shop. I only give them one star because you dont have the option to give none. 5 months... yeah thats right, 5 months with little to no contact and when I finally back my equipment, its still broken. Took my vintage SVT to these guys, reccomended by a fellow musician. New to the area and very particular about my oldy. Talked to a guy who didnt know much about guitar amps but someone else would be working on it. I had just replaced the pwr tubes and was worried theyd try and sell me a new set. The estimate was high but it sounded like he knew what he was doing so three weeks later i get my amp and it sounds better than it has in a while. Installed some beefier parts and replaced two tubes. And... way under the estimate. After using a lot of repair shops these guys are alright. read more

These guys fixed up an old receiver/amp of mine from the early 80s and did a nice job. It took about a week and a half. The guy that was there when I picked it up was nice and told me some stuff I didn't know about the receiver and answered a bunch of my questions when I picked it up. The amp had a lot of cold solder joints and the overall fix was $250. read more

I really wanted to like this company. However, I have had nothing but bad experiences with them. Several months ago, I brought in a pair of powered PA speakers that were cutting in and out. To my surprise, I got a call just a few days later (sometimes these places take weeks) saying my speakers were fixed! After picking them up, to my dismay, one of them still kept cutting in and out. I brought it in again and was told that they needed to order some parts from mackie to do the repair. A couples months later, I finally got a call back saying the speaker was repaired. I picked them up, brought them to a gig, and within minutes the speaker stopped working again. Getting frustrated now, I took it back again, this time asking for a refund since they were not able to successfully repair the speaker (not to mention taking months to do it). They told me they could not refund my card, but could mail me a check. It's now again been weeks since they said they would mail the check but I have still not received anything. I have called, emailed, and even gone back to ask them about it and was just given the run around each time. I am incredibly disappointed with their customer service and would not recommend them to anyone. read more

Sent in my Pioneer mixer for warranty repair . After weeks of waiting they returned my mixer in worse shape than when I sent it in . They made the problem with Output much worse and returned the mixer with a broken power button. They did not even test mixer before saying it was fixed and sent back . I would highly not recommend this place. Horrible customer service. They offered no assistance in trying to resolve situation. DO NOT SEND YOUR GEAR HERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a fantastic experience with Pro AV Resource where they vastly exceeded my expectations. I got a glowing referral from an employee of one of the best clubs in SF who services all of their gear here. I was initially hesitant given the reviews on Yelp, but I realized that more than 90% of the negative reviews of from 2010 or before. I can now confidently say that these reviews are entirely inconsistent with my recent experience with them. I had to repair two Pioneer XDJ-1000 units that were in horrible shape. The Play and Cue buttons did not work at all. I spoke to Rob on the phone who was knowledgeable, upfront and honest. He told me to bring the units in, and he would have them ready the following week. I dropped off everything on Friday with Mackenzie who was incredibly nice. She managed my expectations perfectly and documented everything professionally at the outset. I picked up the units today (Wednesday - 3 business days later) and they are working like new. Rob worked on the units and took me through everything that was wrong. Broken switches and damage to the circuit board that they were able to repair no problem. On top of all of this, they guaranteed their work with a 60-day warranty. This is hands down the best Pro Audio repair shop in San Francisco. read more

Brought in a Korg synth with a bad button. Few days later it was all good.

Took a Rane dj mixer to get a replacement x-fader and a new line fader on one channel. Waited about TWO MONTHS. Finally just dropped in to see what was up and was given the runaround and asked to come back a day later. I came back the next day to pick up my mixer, and the x-fader is replaced but nothing has been done with the line level fader. No explanation given. Take your gear elsewhere. I brought a Rane mixer there to get fixed. They returned it much later than scheduled which is nothing. What they did do is NOT FIX ANYTHING! The worst part is their 'guarantee' didn't produce any results either. Part of their scam is that they don't let you try it out but rather hand the bunk product back to you and send you on your way. I drive by there all the time and always get pissed off at how they capitalise on the fact that they are the one of the few such places that offer a this type of service and can get away with anything. read more

Took a single small monitor to get repaired because the thing fuse popped or something, I also didn't hear from them until I had to call about 3 weeks later. Then it was excuses that the dealer was temporarily closed for heavy storm, which even it were true, they didn't even notify me of this, I had to follow up everytime...was also told it could take about 4-6 months to get the parts needed to repair the damn monitor...so i just told them to ask the manufacturer for a replacement instead of having to wait forever...luckily they did and I got my new monitor couple weeks later so two stars. read more

I have only dealt with this company by email to ask a questions regarding fuses for a subwoofer. I had asked so many companies, including the manufacturer, what size fuse I needed for my Mackie. Pro Audio answered my email right away and I was able to find exactly what I needed at the local Radio Shack. I live 3 hours away from the city so it was a great relief not having to lug my subwoofer down there. I'll let you know how it goes if I have to get repairs. read more

I did drop off an old Moog (Realistic MG-1) to get the sliders replaced and some repairs done. They did replace the sliders for me and the work was done well but that was all they could do and I think that was only because I brought in all the parts for that job myself. As far as diagnosing and fixing the other issues (there were some dead keys and a problem with one of the oscillators) they had the synth for over a year and never called to update me on the progress or issues or anything. In fairness to them they were moving locations during that year and that might account for some confusion but after a year I came and got the synth back without being any further along on the issues it had and was told that it was probably unrepairable. I gave up for a while on the synth believing that they knew more about this sort of stuff than I did. Later out of pure boredom one day I found a guy in San Jose working out of his garage that took the synth and had it done for a great price and completed it over a weekend's time. It know works like the day it was bought (1984). In my opinion I wouldn't give them another chance, at least not with any synths and it's not just because they were unable to do the repairs but because of how they run the place and deal with customers. read more
