I have had my tubas repaired and cleaned by Sean and his crew a few times now and I really love his work and completely trust his shop. He modified the my F tuba to reduce the valve throw using a pretty creative solution which worked great. The thing I was most impressed by though is I came in complaining about a sticking valve on a relatively new tuba. This was clearly a manufacturing defect, and I need the value to work well for an upcoming concert. He was there on a weekend when the shop was closed and spent an hour meticulously going over the value to identify the problem and got it working perfectly while I waited for the repair. I highly recommend his shop for brass instrument repairs. read more

Shawn and his employees are doing an amazing job given the sheer # of music repair places that have closed in recent years . Shawn has rescued my custom made flutes on numerous occasions and even done restoration work on one of them. I have tried to be patient given that I have several instruments and there is no sense in asking him to rush anything as his work is impeccable and worth waiting for. On top of that he is a Family man and it is 2026 -so be glad someone with his skills is even there doing all the work he does so well. He is generous with his knowledge and has garnered a lot of respect in the Bay Area from many musicians who are more than willing to pay whatever he charges -given his skills are with sometimes difficult people. That on top of Trumpets -Trombones - Flutes and Saxophones plus Clarinets . I have even seen him working on other exotic woodwinds etc. We are lucky to be able to go to Wind and Brass "For Sure" as Shawn says. read more

Always excellent service on wind instruments We have been here throughout students years in band. read more

Honestly, I can't believe places like this still exist. In this economy...? Knowledgeable, prompt and affordable. A beautifully kept shop space. I brought my silver flute in for a tune up and walked out with it playing better for less money than I imagined. All my blessings to the folks that make this shop what it is. read more

A couple of weeks ago I got the trumpet I played in High School (more than a decade ago) out of my closet to take a look at how much work it would be to make it functional. It would be a lot for me but easy-peasy for the folks at Wind and Brass! They lubed the slides and valves, took out some dents, and polished it up all for a reasonable price. Then only challenge I had with them is they called when they finished but didn't leave a message so I had to call them back on my own to check. It's a small thing and I'm otherwise really happy with what they did. Highly recommended!! read more

Every went very well, I'm a professional trumpet player as was a teacher in the OUSD. I recently purchased a trumpet and I am very pleased with the deal I made for a very beautiful high end trumpet. In addition I recommend for all my repairs, and the repairs of all my students. They are honest and professional. read more

Knowledgeable staff Quick Reliable We have been here 2x. One to purchase a trombone for our teen gal. They have a good selection of used instruments. They spent a long time answering our questions. We had many. The second time was to fix a trumpet for our 4th grader. The problem was identified in say 5 minutes and fixed in 2. Overall, an excellent experience here for us. read more

A Good place for instrument repairs. Friendly and knowledgeable. Some inventory, but not a lot.

Brought in my bari sax to be repaired - several tone holes were damaged when my student knocked my horn over. Shawn and I inspected the horn together and he assured me he could fix it but he sounded a little reticent. I called the next day to make sure he was up to the job - he said he was. We talked about a tool which would make the job easier but the repair was not contingent on that. A week goes by and Shawn calls me to say he can't repair my horn. Apparently he felt he needed this tool after all. Ok, I'm not dinging him for not being able to fix it. I am dinging him for not recognizing his limitations and being honest about what he can and can't do. And it would have saved me an additional trip, gas, bridge fare and my time. read more

I had a really good experience with them recording my clarinet mouthpiece. Glad to have a good repair shop in the area.

Sean presides over a magical domain of musical instruments at Wind and Brass. He has a deep sensitivity for the subtleties of instrument repair and maintenance. He's helped me choose and purchase a beautiful sounding flute, and found and fixed problems others didn't even hear. Wonderful teachers give lessons in the store's practice rooms, and there's a delightful parade of eccentric individuals who passed through the store every day sharing their passion for music. read more

Professionalism and curtesy makes them one of the best in the Bay Area. I would recommend them for both students and professionals for teaching and repairing. read more

Sean has always taken great time and care with my various horns. I can't recommend him highly enough.

Total life saver! Sean and his team are accommodating and patient. They are knowledgeable and trustworthy. Lucas repaired my Sonoma damaged trumpet at a much more affordable cost than another shop. They also performed the repairs very quickly. We will return to this shop for our future instrument needs! read more

The cleaning on my old French horn was incredibly thorough. The staff here clearly has a deep knowledge of brass instruments and they approach their work with great care. I'll definitely be a repeat customer as long as they're in business. read more

This is my go to repair shop. I take care of my instruments pretty well and have been lucky with them. The few times my luck ran out, this was the shop I went to. I went in to get a few repairs done on a used horn I had and ended up walking out with 2 horns. Although we did have some issues with the payment going through, Shawn was professional and made sure things got resolved within a few days. I wish their team the best with their move to Solano Ave and will definitely be coming back. read more

Tune up on my Tenor sax. Excellent job at a reasonable price. About the only place in the east bay to get your instrument worked on.

Took my flute here for a deep clean and checkup. Super fast. Only took about 45 minutes and the staff was very nice and helpful. The prices were amazing as well read more

Shean an incredible craftsman! He has worked on all three of my trombones, and put them into top shape. Most recently, I had some small dings on the slide of my Bach 36 and he was able to fix it up for me within a week. When I went to pick it up, lo and behold, he had discovered an old pencil stuck in the bottom crook of the slide next to the spit valve. He painstakingly removed it, and now the ease of free playing, the range, the tone, the level of articulation possibilities, all have improved significantly! I've had the horn for about 10 years, and I just thought that the back pressure and relative difficulty in blowing it was a part of the mantra of Bach, classical horns. I guess not! I highly recommend Sean for work on brass instruments. He is a quiet and skilled genius craftsman! read more

Truth be told, I submitted my piccolo for repair back before Thanksgiving. I did not receive my piccolo back for another 2 months. Shawn made sure that I was informed about the delay and the status of where the missing parts were and what he was doing to try and expedite the process. My piccolo now plays like a dream and even though his shop is all the way across the bridge for me (I'm in SF), I'll continue to go to him for my instrument repairs. Also, Shawn is a pretty cool guy and I always love my conversations with him. I highly recommend this shop. read more

They now have excellent guitar tech! I've brought 3 of my guitars to Jonathan so far, they all turned out great! 1) Yamaha Pacifica - Setup and Modification Had playability issue and noisy push/pull tone pot. Had him setup the guitar properly and replace the tone pot with mini toggle switch. 2) GF Guitars Ragnar Custom - Repair and Setup Had multiple playability issues which other guitar techs could not fix. This guitar was built in Portugal and the moisture difference must have caused the neck to warp in very weird ways. Jonathan took time to identify all issues and fixed it, now it plays better than ever before. 3) Fender American Deluxe Strat - Build and Setup I had this broken strat from 15 years ago and decided to revive it. Jonathan first removed all the paint, I torched it and finished it with Tru-Oil. He then applied copper shielding and installed all the upgrade parts. After his setup it's a best looking, playing, and sounding guitar I have! I highly recommend you to take your stringed instruments here for all types of works! read more

Cleaned and repaired my father's 1949 vintage trumpet. Finished trumpet looks amazing and is ready to bring joy to its next owner.

Very quick and nice repair on my clarinet! Thumbrest needed replacing and I got it back within a day. 10/10

Very attentive and expert service. I've brought my tenor sax in twice for service and both times the horn played really well when I got it back. read more

I recently purchased a used saxophone that seemed to be having some leak issues, but with me being a beginner, I had no idea what was really going on. I came across Wind & Brass Instrument Repair on Yelp, and based on all of the positive reviews, I knew this would be a great place to have my sax serviced. Upon arriving, I was greeted by Shawn, and after explaining my issue to him, he didn't hesitate and immediately offered to look at the sax right then and there, even though he was busy with another project. I initially planned on leaving the sax with Shawn so he could go over it and fix anything that was wrong, but he explained that he was booked out over a month and a half. Instead of handing me back my instrument and turning me away, he actually made some minor tweaks and adjustments on the spot, which fixed the issues I was having. I really appreciate how accommodating Shawn was and the great service he provided. Even though it's out of my area, Wind & Brass Instrument Repair is definitely going to be my go-to place for any servicing needs. Thanks again Shawn! read more

I do most of my own guitar repair but had a thin line tele besting me with some noisy p90's. So I took it in and Jonathan was absolutely awesome. They responded to me quickly on Yelp and had my guitar in to be looked at the next day. Even though they were super busy they got to it inside a couple days. They took great care of my instrument and got it back to me quickly at a reasonable price. They listen to what you need and really make sure to take care of you. I'm definitely going back here every time it's needed. Or just going back when I'm in the area to say hi to the shop doggo Lola. read more

You won't find another shop in the Bay who will provide you with such quality work at such a reasonable price! read more

If there's ever a time I need one of my instruments repaired, I'll only bring them to Shaun at Wind & Brass! Especially vintage instruments! It takes an old school hand to understand these vintage horns because these metals are different from the metals of todays horns! Shaun knows his metals and knows what they need! Heat, tensions and flexibility are all different on horns from decades ago. We're talking instruments that are irreplaceable and have no replacement parts out there! He's never failed at exceeding my expectations with his work! Guys like me rely on good folks like Shaun to keep our babies running smooth! Wind & Brass is more than reasonable with price and timeframes. If you want your instruments brought back to life I'd highly recommend this Bay Area gem! read more

I went to Wind and Brass for a small repair on my cornet. I had usually gone to another repair shop further away in Oakland. It turns out Sean used to work at that shop. Now he's out on his own. I enjoyed being able to view the work space, as well as instruments in the process of being repaired. A very complete looking collection of tools for his trade. He performed a quick and clean repair on my precious horn for a fair price. I'll recommend his work to anyone. read more

A different repair shop had advised that my clarinet needed an expensive overhaul. After a back-and-forth exchange of emails with Shawn, I dropped by Wind & Brass to have him take a look. He said I did not need an overhaul, made some adjustments on the spot for a very reasonable fee, and the horn now plays smoothly. Update: have brought it back a couple times since-- Shawn further tweaked a problem key, and pointed out that because of the way this particular clarinet was made, its two main sections need to be perfectly aligned to ensure the pads seal properly. read more

I decided to bring in my flute, piccolo and clarinet which were definitely in need of some rehabilitation. Cyron was super helpful, friendly and kind with excellent, expert knowledge that just blew me away. Definitely a place that pays attention to detail and clearly care deeply about their craft.
