The meats were amazing with the sausage being our favorite! We also tried the brisket, ham, and ribs and I would gladly do them all again. The macaroni salad was delightful as were the beans. The bread they served wasn't plain dry white bread like some places so that was good. The coleslaw was simple and refreshing. The staff was pleasant but I don't think I saw Mr. Prine. It's a walk-in joint so there is no dining area, which I'm okay with. We were in and out with our food to go in about six minutes. I plan to come back the next time I'm in Wichita Falls! read more

The smoked turkey from Prines was the best Thanksgiving meat we have had since I was a child over 70 years ago. The white meat was moist and full cooked. The dark meat on the wings and thighs was flavorful and moist as well. The service we received from the telephone order to the personal greeting at the shop was pleasant and a great relief. The locals say this place is tops, but I've been questioning the culinary adeptness of the locals for near 60 years. First time to have "the legend." German sausage was more like Italian. Sliced beef was virtually tasteless (better said, just the essence of beef). Beans? Verdict still out. I'm not really sure what they were. The food and service is amazing. I love the pimento cheese, the hams are great, I love to get a whole ham for holidays, it gets so many compliments and eaten up. I love their chopped beef and sliced brisket, I'll get that and pair it either with some pimento cheese or macaroni salad and potato salad. They also have homemade pimento cheese that is the best I have ever had. The service is good but the owner is not the most personable person you will meet. The exterior is very plain but, easy to locate. I've always known this place was here but, I always forget about it, only because I've never had it to keep it in my mind being off my normal path. So finally, after 28 years, tonight I got a chance to catch them open and give it a try. :-) I picked up two combo plates in order to give several items a taste. I got the Pork, German Sausage, Ham, and Beef with Potato Salad, Macaroni Salad, and Beans. All the meats were tasty with an extra shout to the German Sausage. It had a spicy bite to it that was delicious. The sauce is not your usual BBQ sauce, it was a spicy clear sauce that was quite tasty. Read about the Macaroni and Potato Salads in previous reviews on here ... and they were right, Dee Lish Us!!! Especially enjoyed the Mac Salad and give it a big thumbs up. The beans had quite a surprise flavor for me. Not bad but, took a bit to get used to them. I also heard the Pimento Cheese and the Cole Slaw are good. I'm not a Cole Slaw guy but, will try the Pimento Cheese on the next visit. Had an opportunity to chat with Alan Prine, the current owner, and cashier Brandy. Very friendly all around and make the atmosphere very down home feeling. There is no table service, take out only. I love the old look inside. Feels like the old neighborhood butcher. Nothing fancy, so don't expect it. Items are packaged in styro-trays or wrapped. They have a bit of extras to buy such as drinks, chips, breads and the fixin's to serve a party. I love a good Texas barbeque and, based on the reviews, was excited to check this one out with my family this past weekend. I was sorely disappointed. Food: I ordered the chopped beef platter. Usually a safe bet at any Texas barbeque place. The beef I received was not fresh nor did it have the flavor of being well smoked. It was already smothered in sauce and spooned on my plate, evoking memories of childhood Sloppy Joes. I gave it a good try, but simply was unable to finish my sandwich due to the poor taste. My fried Okra was burnt. Not just overcooked, but black and crusty burnt. Restaurant: I expected a bit more in terms of cleanliness and condition of restaurant. Tablecloths were unusually sticky/dirty and the building and decoration/furniture as a whole was old and in need of repair/maintenance. In case you are wondering, this was my first time here. I don't know anything about the restaurant, other than my family and I walked out feeling sickened by the experience. Bottom line: if you are looking for great barbecue in Wichita Falls, keep looking. read more

This was for a while, a BBQ that we ordered to go BBQ. Price was right. Then one day I went and had to wait for a bit. I started to look at the place, it was quite dirty, then the BIG roaches got out of their hideouts and went running over the counters and walls. My Father-in-law said they are all over Wichita Falls, and so are not able to get rid of. I believe a GOOD and deep cleaning would be a first, second, third and fourth step in getting them gone. Never went back and people say it is still quite dirty. Go if you want, just keep in mind... 'if there is one roach active, there are at least 100 you don't see' .Not sure who runs it now, I am sure that Prine is long gone, hope his successor is doing a better job. read more

We got the sliced brisket , chopped pork and sausage. The sausage was good but the other 2 meats had zero flavor. It was like chewing rubber. Best quick bbq lunch stop in town, and one of the oldest in WF. There is no inside seating, but that isn't a dealbreaker for me. Their chopped beef is legendary and this family business kills it every day. The smoker right outside the front door is the best advertising you could have. If you don't want the chopped beef, any of their chopped sandwiches will do. I rotate between chopped ham, pork, and bologna. Their sauce is more like an au jus consistency and is the perfect vinegar touch to the smoke on their meats. I always get extra. read more

Prine's is a place to pick up barbecue and order barbecue for catering. I only tried the brisket but found it to be dry for my tastes. Their are no table or table service; it is purely a to go place. Be forewarned there is no seating. Parking lot is weirdly shape so be careful when parking. The meat is cut to order. The meat was very tender and juicy. The pork was a little unappetizing when is was cold but when they heated it up it was very good. The bar aqua scarce was thin but very good to us but that part is up to you guys to decide. Prines is what Prines is. Never wavering, perfectly content with who they are. The brick pit is in full view in the parking lot spewing out heavy smoke. While there I saw several fresh turkeys and a brisket headed for the smoker. Most of the BBQ appears to be cooked and then refrigerated. Unusual for me was the final touch of microwaving sandwiches before serving to bring them up to temp. I only had the ham sandwich and it was as expected. I would have preferred more smoke on the meat though. I would come back and try some of the other meats. It's definitely a BBQ option and different from the others. read more

Great smoked ribs!! This was our first time ordering here. I ordered 3 slabs of ribs, quart of beans and bread for a potluck for the guys on the flight line at SAFB. They were amazing ! Such a great smoky flavor. The beans were thick and has a wonderful smoke taste. All of it was so filling! For 10 guys we had some leftovers , that were even better the next day.y order was ready on time and brought to my car by a very nice happy gentleman. Thank you Prine's. Passing through the city and wanted something local and delicious! I see why there are so few pictures, I sort of devoured my chopped pork sandwich without even thinking about taking a picture. Purchased a chopped pork sandwich, 1/2 pint banana pudding, 1/2 pint macaroni salad, and a German sausage roll. Everything turned out fantastic! We were received kindly, and we loved our bologna and pork sandwiches, as well as the potato salad. One sandwich would have been enough, but at $3.50 a piece I unknowingly order myself two. Prines is maybe some of the best-cooked brisket - loads of flavor, lots of bark, and super tender. The old meat market and the brick smoker makes it easy to tell they've been doing it for over 90 years. The sauce, too, is an anomaly in north Texas in the best possible way - thin, sharp, and one of the handful of sauces in which I've happily submerged my brisket with reckless abandon. One thing I can guarantee they haven't been doing since 1925 is taking slices of this beautiful piece of meat and putting it in the microwave. Microwaves didn't exist back then. They don't even try to hide it, and judging from the amount of time they spend hovering around the appliance while it's reheating my meat, there's an amount of care there that leads me to believe they don't think they're taking a shortcut. It doesn't completely demolish the meat, but the quick reheat adds a bit of a rubbery texture that wouldn't be there if it was warmed a little more gently. This characteristic is more obvious over time as the excited water molecules quickly separate from the meat, so even a 20-minute car ride can offer some quickly diminishing returns. Luckily the sauce is so good, because after a quick dunk even the dryest cuts of brisket ended up tasting pretty great. I think I would have preferred pulled pork as opposed to the slices - it didn't offer much more than the brisket in terms of barbecuing, tenderness, or flavor. The hot link and barbecue beans was nice, the later with some generous chunks of meat. The potato salad is an interesting texture, though it's because the potatoes are cooked to the point where they completely fall apart. The pimiento cheese is a staple, and the spoonfuls of the stuff shoved between two slices of plain white bread was a callback to a childhood I wish I had. I love so much about Prine's. The microwave, however, is a self-induced black splotch on the reputation of the place that needs to go away. read more

An off the beaten path hole in the wall. From the out side it seemed like nothing special, just a broken down little shack, but my brother and I was very hungry so we decided to give it a try anyways. The place is an old family run Barbecue pit that's been around for 40 plus years and still going strong and I understood why once I had the food. We each had a sandwhich, I got the chopped beef and my brother got the chopped pork. they were both amazingly moist and the sauce was delicious. I must say the pork was a lot better, so if you go, I would recommend the pork. We also shared a macaroni salad which was good too. Prine's has been around since I was a kid and at the time was my favorite BBQ establishment in Wichita Falls (80's). Establishments like these nowadays are becoming too comercialized, offering platters instead of a pound or so of brisket or pork and a pint or more of sides like southern style tater salad or slaw. I got the opportunity to visit Wichita Falls recently for a High School Football game, and I seized the opportunity to visit Prine's BBQ. Outstanding Bar-B-Que. Family owned for 3 or 4 generations. During major holidays, you can hardly get in because of former residents returning and making this place a must stop. Prine's lived up to the hype. Long lost hole in the wall. It's been here since 1925. I grew up here and had no idea it existed. The exterior isn't much to look at and the interior is functional but not inviting. It certainly doesn't match the amazing food you will soon devour. Excellent brisket and ribs! Good smoked flavor without being too dry. Not a fan of the sauce but that's just my personal preference. Can't go wrong with the macaroni salad, potato salad or banana pudding!
