What a lovely evening, experience, and find: Prosser's Princess Theater. Ya dig!?
This was my first time making it to the Princess (I, of course, wore my evening gown!), and it was perfect! I had heard rumors of this old (but renovated) theater playing classic movies. I love old theaters and old movies like the dickens. Ya dig?!
On this evening, the 1967 film "In The Heat Of The Night" was rolling (actually it was spinning...as in a DVD spinning vs. film). I'd never seen the film, but was surprised by it's cool-ness (Sidney Poitier epitomizes coolness [he taught me a new phrase: "Ya dig?"], and the Ray Charles soundtrack sealed the deal). The film was a powerful crime story dealing with racism in the South--note, there's no way I'd live in the South--ya dig?
The real star (other than my girlfriend) this evening was The Princess. On this evening there was a beer & wine tasting prior to the movie. We briefly thought we were going to have to down our beverages in the nearby tasting room, but a staff member said there were no minors in the theater, so we were free to take our libations theater-bound. They were pouring very tasty Steamy Cream (from nearby Whistran Brewery)--we grabbed a trio of pints for the movie.
Oh, and we had to get some candy, and why shouldn't we with their choices only costing a mere $1 (compared to the astronomical prices in the multiplexes!)?
The theater was ginormous, spic & span (i.e. clean), and classically retro. Sadly, I wish there was more of a turnout here (there were maybe 20 patrons sharing the theater with us that night). I want this theater to make it---this is EXACTLY the type of establishment the mid-Columbia could use more of.
After the viewing, we briefly talked with one of the cool staff members. He talked about how the evening's film is part of a series they have. Sounds like every month they'll be showing classic films like that here. I say, this is GREAT (but I'd say show them more often! I'd drive the 30 minutes to Prosser if they had more movies here.). I do remember them also showing other cool films such as The Rocky Horror Picture Show around Halloween, and of course, It's A Wonderful Life around Xmas-time.
Wow, we finally have a cool theater in the area (just show more movies!! I swear I'll do everything I can to spread the word about ya'll!) :) read more
