They've recently updated their systems, so now you receive text reminders about your appointment, which I really appreciate, and you can gather points for discounts as you come in. I've gotten their gel manicures, dip manicures, and extensions. I've never been disappointed. They are meticulous, attentive, and they listen to requests and changes you want made. The edges don't look finished, a bit of polish on my skin, and I can see brush stokes. While I was there a girl came back, it sounded like she just left and one nail smudge. The owner was pretty rude to her and said that's what happens with polish and she should have gotten gel. He reluctantly redid the nail. My technician don't say much and was on the phone during the end of my service. I noticed a lot of people getting their brows done. An older woman did then in the back corner. You had to take a number and wait. It looked like she took her time and filled them in after. This could be a hidden gem for brows but there's probably better nail salons in Springfield.

My newest obsession is the dip manicure (powder polish), it's a great way to protect my weak/brittle nails without full-on tips being applied. Only $30 every week and a half/two weeks for flawless nails. Tips: 1) Make an appointment 2) Don't get update if you have to wait, even if you have an appt. They have an endless flow of walk-in's. They fit people in when possible but if the customer then decides to select a more time consuming service once they've started, they have to finish. They don't make you wait on purpose, this is probably one of the most efficient salons around with plenty of nail stations and staff.

Unfortunately, my most recent visit was really disappointing. They didn't have the pink/nude color I picked, nor the alternative I chose, and the end color was completely wrong. The dip manicure took nearly two hours, which made me miss a reservation I had afterward. Even worse, the end result just wasn't up to par. The dip powder was applied in at least five thick layers, making my nails look bulky and unnatural. The edges were sloppy, and there was visible residue left on my skin and around the nail beds for days. What was also crazy, is that the tech kept dumping way too much powder to coat them (using half the jar!!) and blowing it off in my direction. I was completely (I mean COMPLETELY) covered in dip powder that other customers stuck their fingers in by the end of the appointment. Now that I've left Massachusetts, the dip is already chipping and catching on things. It's frustrating because when you're traveling, sometimes you just need your nails to look decent until you get home--but this time, they didn't even meet that basic standard. I really want to continue supporting this business when I'm in town, but I hope management will consider providing additional training for their technicians. Attention to detail truly matters, and with a little more consistency, Sophia's could be a reliable spot. 2 stars because there aren't really any other options in the area. (Note: the photo with the red nails was taken a few years ago (I've had pretty good luck since then, but not this last time).

So, I didn't need to add tips! After applying 3 coats of gel polish with the UVA drying in-between, and a top coat, Kim added oil to my cuticles. I then washed my hands. Then I was treated to a paraffin wax dip, and a back passage while it set. I'm absolutely thrilled with how my OWN nails look. I'll be back in two weeks for a fill.
