First time visiting this quaint little cafe in East Troy. The place was very busy but we were able to get a table for 7 of us. The menu was pretty extensive and had many great options for breakfast and lunch. I ordered the gipsy skillet and it was wonderful and delicious. My sister had eggs Benedict and she loved it. Our server was friendly and efficient and kept our coffee cups full. The best part were the prices! Most of the breakfast menu was under $10! We'll definitely be back! read more

I was on my way out of town and I really like stopping at a new place for breakfast to start my journey and this was the place. The menu isn't huge but it had gyros and eggs which sounded good until I asked if they were real gyros off the spit, no there not I was told. The place is old looking with local regulars gathering on a Sunday morning who all know each other. The woman working the floor sounded like the owner while talking to her and was very friendly, she was welcoming to everyone. Even though I know the country fried steak would be fake frozen crap I ordered it because it's better than fake gyros and I love country fried steak. My breakfast took a bit but it looked amazing with 3 sunny side up eggs, country fried steak smothered in country gravy and golden hash browns with requested onions. The Texas toast is a favorite of mine and it's hard to find at most breakfast restaurants but it was a pleasant surprise and good, this is how you start a weekend road trip off right. We visited East Troy to watch our grandson play football. After the game all 6 of us were hungry. We searched online for a place to eat, Princess Cafe came up and off we went. The staff greeted us with smiles telling us to sit wherever. Our grandson had already found a table for 6 and took our seats. The server came took our drink order and gave us plenty of time to review the menu which is extensive! We settled on our orders and not long after, she started bringing it out. The vibe is so homey and welcoming. May I say the food was wonderful! One if not the best breakfasts I've ever eaten. All of us ate everything! Our 7 year old who ordered chicken tenders and fries ate almost all! The server was so friendly and you could tell she took pride in the food and the restaurant treating us like family. The prices were so affordable as well! As a person who lives in the Chicago area, feeding 6 for under 70.00 was amazing! Side note, the bathroom was super clean and well stocked. I was a bit judgy upon walking in for a few reasons; 1. The place we wanted to eat had too long of a wait so this was a hail Mary decision 2. LOTS OF KIDS when we walked in 3. Kinda dirty grungy diner where you question the kitchen cleanliness as well. Either way service was great and the food was average. Not great or bad. I of course ordered the classiest dish on the menu of pigs in a blanket which were executed as I would expect. I could tell the sausage was of the cheaper variety. Definitely a great breakfast restaurant. They will generally allow you to make substitutions, additions or deletions to the menu items. My grandson likes peanut butter and banana pancakes and although it is not on the menu, they gladly make it each time he orders it. The owners are actively involved and can be seen there working hard daily. Food is good and abundant. read more

We arrived 35 minutes before their posted closing time. They stopped us at the door and told us "We decided we're closing early today." Obviously customers don't mean much to them. Disappointed that they've changed to breakfast and lunch only. I've been here several times over the years, and always stopped for dinner. I checked their Facebook page 1st and it did not indicate they changed their hours. Even ran into a local person at the Piggly Wiggly and who said they had been there just last week for dinner. I am from out of town (Milwaukee). Bottom line is I do not begrudge the owner changing their format, however I wish it was communicated more clearly - particularly on their Facebook page. read more

Usually, a full parking lot is a good sign...and don't get me wrong, this place isn't terrible. There are lots worse places out there. BUT it could be so much better, with just a few tweaks. First, the good. The service is excellent! The hostess (and I believe owner) is very friendly and very attentive. Her partner (I only saw 2 people working) is also a hard worker and very attentive. The speed of service was also reasonable in view of how many other customers were there. Maybe I should have had a hint about the quality of the food with some of the names: "hobo skillet," gypsy skillet." It doesn't quite fit the royalty motif of "princess." The food was okay. I hate it though when they use cheap cheese on anything. It wasn't Velveeta but it was close. Spend a few pennies and buy some real cheese, not just bland American that you can pick up at Walmart. The toast though was horrible. The bread had obviously been frozen. It was all dried out. It might have been fit for animals but not for paying customers. Most of the people there were senior citizens and probably locals. I'd surmise they are looking for cheap, local eats and are more focused on gabbing than eating. But for those who care about quality food, this is one that I'd give a pass to. read more

Stopped for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We love to try the local mom and pop places, but this one was a disappointment. The staff was friendly enough, except when the cook switched our potatoes, and were loudly reprimanded by the female owner to get their head in the game! We both ordered breakfast. Hubby's French toast was just okay. My eggs Benedict was a disaster! Eggs were over hard, e muffin was not toasted, and the worst part was the sauce, cheesy with no lemon taste. This place needs a Robert Irvine Restaurant makeover! Old, Old, Old! I would also call it the home of the bent sign! Met all of our expectations for a small town diner. Friendly staff that ensured we had a great breakfast. Everything was fresh and delicious, in fact the best breakfast we had during a five-day stay in East Troy. Unfortunately, we discovered the Princess Cafe on our last day. We've been regular customers of the Princess for about a year and a half now. We have yet to get anything there we didn't like. The owners and staff are the nicest around, they all treat us and our children like family. The prices are excellent along with the chicken wings. They have a wide variety of choices, including breakfast, sandwiches, seafood and authentic mexican cuisine. Lets see. We walk in without being greeted, and some lady standing behind the counter doing something and ignoring incoming customers... so we were kind of on our own, and just sat down somewhere... After waiting a few minutes to be served while checking out the interesting ad plastered place mats that were on the table, finally somebody came over. We ordered a cup of their soup of the day, a chicken and rice soup. When the soup arrived I was absolutely horrified! It was essentially a cup of chicken gravy with a little bit of rice and a few chunks of chicken. Aweful! .... I decided to dump some pepper in there to give it SOME sort of flavor, because otherwise, there was none, unless you enjoy chomping down a packet of store-bought chicken gravy. I ordered the veal parmesan, while the others ordered a turkey melt and a fish sandwich. All of their food seemed frozen and bought in from a restaurant supply company, not home made. With that said, expect the food to be as good as the frozen food that comes in and gets reheated (not very) The prices seem high for what you're getting. For $8 I could easily get a great meal down the street at The Great Northern Skillet, it would be all home-made and a larger portion. Do not eat at the Princess Cafe! read more

I can't say enough about this place. It's your typical greasy spoof diner. Good food as long as you know that ahead of time :) their omelettes and their hash browns are to die for. As others have said, this place is nothing fancy, is a hole-in-the-wall and is about a dollar per menu item less expensive than the more upscale Grist Mill which is a few doors down. The food may be plentiful, but is unexceptional. It used to have bargain specials, but now is more like a Greek greasy spoon. On a recent visit we were told to seat ourselves so we did. No effort was made to bring water, but we did get menus. A group of six affable guys on motorcycles showed up who appeared familiar to the server. They were seated by the server, provided menus, served water and their orders were taken while we continued to wait. For a dollar more per entree you will get nicer surroundings, a more interesting menu and more attentive service at Ivan's & the Grist Mill. read more

Great breakfast place! If you want a traditional breakfast with eggs, hash browns, toast, etc, they do it right, and the prices are very reasonable. But the best part was the service. The waitress was very friendly without being over the top, prompt, and helped create an immediately comfortable environment.
