Bee Well Cafe - Pecan Maple Scone

We found ourselves in Mukwonago around lunch time and decided to try Bee Well Cafe…read more The decor carries a bee theme throughout the place with fuzzy looking bees painted on the walls as well as a hive pattern, coasters, real plates with bees, and even bee themed salt and pepper shakers. They note that they feature fresh local organic goods, though the cold cuts displayed were Boars Head. I ordered a grilled cheese artichoke havarti sandwich, and it was tasty and not too heavy. Our sandwiches were accompanied by savory gherkins, which were delicious. You can enter via the front or back entrance. The cafe features an array of seating options like fun yellow comfy furniture and a children's table as well.

Food: Normally, I would get a London Fog Latte and a scone. They have both items, but because of their focus on healthy, organic, and local ingredients, I had to adjust my order and expectations. The London Fog Latte was made with oat milk and honey as the sweetener. The scones (and the rest of the bakery) are gluten-free. Both of these were different from what I would normally have, but they were very good. The London Fog was really well made. For oat milk, it had some very nice froth. The flavor and the temperature were good. The Pecan Maple Scone was also good. Like many gluten-free baked goods, it was more dense. They warmed it for me, and it was a delicious treat and a nice companion to the latte. Service: We received excellent service from the person helping us. We were the first ones there when they opened at 9:00. She was very helpful in explaining the café offerings and was clearly passionate about the mission. The London Fog is not on the regular menu, but they knew what it was and were happy to make it. They ensured we got everything we asked for: lattes in mugs, bakery items warmed, and food brought out to the table. Relaxed, helpful, and friendly service. Thanks, Elizabeth. Atmosphere: The place is bright and cheerful. The bee theme is present throughout the entire café, from the wall coverings to the small plates for beverages. Lots of nice light comes in through the front windows. There is plenty of seating for different-sized groups, with a choice of metal or upholstered chairs, or a couch for different levels of comfort and conversation. The entire visit had a nice vibe. I'm not quite ready to give up my flour and sugar, but I would have no trouble stopping in again.

It was sold last year…read moreand we feared the club wouldn't open for fish fries anymore BUT they did and we were cautiously excited. While the menu and description looks the same, all of the food across the board lacked seasoning. The marble rye and German potato salad were served family style so you could order more - and honestly were shining stars of the meal. While it was a little different, the potato salad came out hot and had a nice tangy dressing as I would expect. I had a cup of the clam chowder which was ok. I ordered the blue gill fish fry which comes with your choice of potato pancakes or fries - I did the pancakes. It also comes with coleslaw and applesauce. I had a 5 fish fillets which is a good amount. Unfortunately the fish didn't have any seasoning so I used my entire container of tartar sauce. I saw most at the table grabbing the salt and pepper. The potato pancakes were really thin hash browns as the potatoes were shredded not grated and they just weren't made like traditional potato pancakes. Our wait staff were wonderful but they had a hard time getting drinks. Some drinks came after the food order because it seemed bartenders were too busy with people at the bar and not making the drinks. Before the purchase of the club, the potato pancakes were authentic so this is a big disappointment. It shows the staff is new and they weren't able to retain any of the old kitchen cooking staff. We all agreed that we would give them another year to find their footing and make any changes they need to and we will try them again.

Our server was very friendly and did a great job in keeping our coffee filled and checking up on us. We had the Eggs Benedict and the Grandma's skillet. Both were reasonably priced and very delicious with the perfect portion size. They do a nice job in clearing out the tables and getting diners seated quickly. Overall, Blue Bay is a great choice for breakfast, brunch or dinner if you're ever in the Mukwonago area.

Most of the time the food is reasonably good, especially with regards to breakfast. I ordered the chicken pita for lunch. Yeah, be careful about ordering that. It's a warmed up pita with a piece of sauteed chicken breast, plus a couple slices of melted american cheese. Sandwich that inside the pita and cut in half. Received this and... so disappointing. Piss poor actually. Who eats that? I was lucky that the greasy oil from the melted american cheese did not stick to the chicken. At least I was able to eat the chicken breast but the rest of that deplorable nightmare was a waste for the garbage. I guess I thought I was ordering a nicely made Mediterranean chicken pita, maybe at the very least with some tomato, perhaps onion and maybe some lettuce or feta or dressing. From past ordering experiences, WAY TOO MUCH AMERICAN CHEESE ON EVERYTHING you have to aggressively tell them not to include American cheese if you don't want that artery clogging crapola otherwise expect everything you order will probably be covered with it. They'll slap that sh*t right on top of your omelet (and it looks terrible), they'll put it on your sandwich, they'll put it on your burger or whatever else. Many times experienced this over years now. Twice now in the last year my hash browns have been overcooked too. Sorry for the bad comments in my review, I hope Blue Bay will improve, This area must not have very high standards for restaurants as far as I can tell and that is evidenced by a few other places in town.
