It's very good, the service is top notch for sure and the bar is good. The food is pretty and good +plus with maybe a bit more accurate seasonings to take it to the next level. I came to Corning for 2 weeks for work and this was my favorite place to dine. I stopped multiple times and everything I had was delicious. I love that their menu changes weekly, it was exciting to come in and try something new. The first time I stopped I had the chicken and risotto which tasted like a home cooked meal. The second night I had the Primrose chopped salad and it was so good I've been trying to figure out how I can make a version at home. I had 2 different flat breads that were both great and had leftovers to take for lunch. I got a variety of desserts too which were delicious. I couldn't believe a place like this exists in this part of Iowa, but I was ecstatic that it did! The staff was all friendly and Jill remembered me every time I came in which was appreciated when you're away from home! The space is nice too, the bar is large and has ample seating. I might just take a trip out here again just for Primrose! Such a culinary delight. read more

My wife and I were on a drive out in the country recently and decided to stop at Primrose for some lunch, it was a great experience, so I thought I'd drop a quick review. Primrose sits right on the main street in the nice little town of Corning, Iowa. The restaurant was very nice, as were all of the staff. The place was extremely busy, which is always a good sign. The room is very nice, and has an open kitchen in the back and a very well stocked full bar along one side. The menu was pretty small, which is my only real complaint, I would have liked to see more selections, but I get not wanting to have a huge menu, and just doing a select number of items and doing them really well. I ordered the hot Honey chicken sandwich with fries and my wife had a cheeseburger and fries. Both were delicious, but special mention goes out to this chicken sandwich, it was amazing. Tangy, but not too spicy, and cooked perfectly, highly recommended. The burger was also really good, just a classic all American burger with some really crispy and tasty fries. We shared a caramel apple bar with a caramel drizzle on top, it was excellent, perfect dessert for a fall day. Overall an extremely enjoyable meal read more

They were out of several items for dinner so a little disappointed with that. Ordered a round for the boys in the back (fun suggestion on the menu) and thought maybe they'd say thank you- to my husband, but they must have been too tired to remember to use their manners that night. Really delicious meal! We were in the area visiting family and they took us here. My sister and I both live in larger cities and a little bit food snobs and have some annoying food allergies. We loved how helpful and friendly the waitstaff were in explaining the menu. Three of our group ordered steak with potatoes and two of us ordered the porkchop with seasonal vegetables and salsa verde. The flavors were genuinely amazing. If you really want a well done steak you may want to order something different. The pork chop was so juicy - one of the things I hate is when they're really dry. The vegetables included little turnips, rutabaga (which I was really excited to try and loved) and potato, with what was basically a mild chimichurri sauce, and some chopped cooked greens. And the flavors were just so good. We were there at really early at 5pm on a Wednesday so it was very quiet at first but by the time we were leaving the place was more than half full. read more

This small gem in Corning Iowa is a must visit when passing though town. The Primrose offers an up scale hipster vibe with food to match. With everything be sourced directly by the chef you can tell there is love going into each dish. The menu is limited with only 5-7 options each day. The dishes changes regularly and offer the best in season dishes. The first time eating her I had the grass fed burger and fries. What's so special about a burger you ask? The burger was cooked perfectly with the freshest ingredients I have seen used in a long time. This chef takes no shortcuts and hand cuts his own fires. He even makes the ketchup from scratch which has a chipotle smoke. Hands down you cannot go wrong. read more

We don't usually leave reviews - but we had to leave one for this outstanding restaurant! We have eaten at some fantastic restaurants, but this is one of our favorites --- and it is located right here in Iowa. I don't care where you live in Iowa, you need to get here and eat at Primrose Restaurant. I had the 8oz teres major steak (never heard of this cut - but as a filet mignon fan I have to say it was outstanding). The crispy potatoes are hard to describe (a cube of hashbrowns) but outstanding!! The wife had the chicken confit and said it was one the best meals she's eaten. The boys had the burger and fries and loved them! This is not just a "great small town restaurant", this is a "great restaurant" that happens to be located in an awesome small Iowa community! Definitely a destination dinner worth driving for! read more

This is such a great restaurant for this small town or any town/city for that matter (I live in Seattle and have access to amazing restaurants/food daily). The decor and ambiance were great! The drink I ordered was delicious and something you'd expect at a craft cocktail bar in a large city. I ordered the salmon dish, which was excellent, accompanied by fresh local vegetables (potatoes, beets). The portion size was perfect. I can't really understand the review on here that complains about the portion size other than to say I don't think they know what an appropriate portion size is. The value for the money is fantastic and it makes me so happy to see such a charming nice restaurant in this cute little community where I was born. read more

Was in the area visiting my elderly parents. I broke them out of assisted living jail in Creston, drove them over to Corning and tried to go to that other place in town known for their tenderloin sandwich. It was closed for some unknown reason, so I checked Yelp and found Primrose. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised to find this little gem! First of all, it was super clean, unlike that other place, and the space was refurbished smartly. The menu was brief, but the burgers, fries were outstanding. I ordered the fried tenderloin sandwich and it was amazing! Well cooked, crunchy and slightly seasoned. And they make their own ketchup and burger sauce. Service was friendly, but it can get really loud when full due to the tin ceiling and wood flooring. People are just damn loud sometimes. Great job Primrose! read more

Oh my gosh - instant 5 starts. I've come to Corning several times over the last month for work at one of our locations and have missed out on Primrose because they're close Monday. I'm having the house special. I call it the committed pig: pork tenderloin, bacon and ham. They have their own homemade ketchup. It's not to my liking but you get bonus points for trying. Just visited from NYC on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The service was great and attentive, atmosphere was great for the area and the Mahi Mahi was outstanding. I just was in Aruba where the fish was out of this world. While it wasn't quite that for 20 dollars it gave it a a solid run for the money. I highly recommend this restaurant. Only suggestion is carry some Johnny Walker black for the occasional city slicker. Can't go wrong here and can't wait to go back. read more

I was super excited to check out PrimRose, didn't even know it existed until a buddy invited us out there. The outside is pretty unassuming but, not off putting. We were greeted as soon as stepped inside. Made our way to a beautiful bar, looks handmade and shows a lot of character. They have a huge selection of local beers and some great whiskey selections. The decor isn't over the top but fitting. I'd like to think they put everything into the service and the food. We started with a few beers at the bar and made our way to our table, we had a party of 8 and the server kept up with our constant ordering of beers, wine etc. The Ham & Cheese plate blew me away, it was very well displayed and the flavors were even better. The ham was the star of the dish but, the cheeses didnt disappoint either. The pickled onions and two mustards made it amazing. As mentioned in other reviews there are different entree choices each night, I chose the Prime Rib ordered rare, extremely rare if possible. I skipped the aus jous but requested horseradish. The meat was proper to say the least, rare as could be and tender too. I was so Happy to eat it. They make a salad like nothing I have ever had, it was delicious and I highly recommend it too. The horseradish was to subtle for me, almost bland. I'll not let that deter me from going back,you can count on that. The chef came out and we had a great conversation about the food and drink. This place poses as 'fine dining' in a small town theme. A rotating menu, locally grown ingredients and a trained chef. So you would think they would focus on order accuracy and quality. Almost every time I order from here my order is wrong in some way (something added I didn't want, missing orders, something over/under cooked, or missing ingredients all together). The worst part about this is their service recovery. If you point out to the manager/owners something is wrong, they almost get offended, and act like it's your problem; too bad so sad mentality. It's sad because I live and work in this community, and the owners act like they could care less if they have your business. It's shocking if you even get greeted when you walk in. I've stood at the bar for a to go order for over 5 minutes being ignored by the bar staff. This place is nice and shiny on the outside, but has a lot of work to do. This place caters to the Corning jail and the portions are so very skimpy. This is all you get to eat in one day and they are starving people. They served bloody chicken last week, and they make the same sandwich every single night. Quit serving such small portions and make sure you cook it all the way through!!!
