From the person taking my order acting like I was an inconvenience to the quality of the food, it was all a disappointment. The worst part was the beans and rice. We are from out of town, but...Wow! Didn't expect to find this quality of Mexican food this far north in a small town. They had the best salsa that we've had outside of California and NM. Their mole sauce was homemade and delicious. The chile relleno was really good as well. Good food and good service made for a great experience. Went here last night with 9 people. The service was quick and very good. Margaritas were huge, delicious and so reasonably priced. Not a place I plan on visiting again unless no other options. No COVID precautions staff barely kept masks on while customers were ordering. Menus were reused and not cleaned between customers. Casa De Oro: A cautionary tale. My friend treated me to dinner at Creston's Mexican restaurant last night & we all wish we hadn't. He ordered a shrimp appetizer for the table & it was horrible. I understand having to serve frozen seafood in Iowa, but not freezer burnt & rotten shrimp. It promised melted butter to dip, I know a bit about commercial kitchens... they served us the "butter flavored" oil used to fry on the griddle, cold. The shrimp tasted like urinal cakes smell & it was clear they scraped the oil off of the end of the griddle into our "butter" saucer because it had bits of burnt griddle in it. We refused that after two of us ate a single shrimp. I ordered an upscaled combo of a burrito & chimichanga (just 50 cents extra) with shredded beef. What I was served could only be described as stuffed with chili from a can; maybe spaghetti sauce with cumin. It was disgusting. My friend wasn't that impressed with his meal. His daughter had ordered three "street tacos," ate one & refused a carry out box. When I took a piece of beef from her meal, it was the driest, most bland, oldest tasting thing I've tasted in years. We decided it was our fault for trying the place after 4 previous terrible meals. (Once my friend found a LOT of cardboard in his food). When my friend asked them to remove the charge for the terrible appetizer we sent back, they outright refused. 1 star is 1 too many. I will never go again.. read more

This is the third time I have eaten here. This time I had the Mariscos Casa de Oro. The meal starts with a basket of fresh tortilla chips and a bowl of salsa. The salsa reminds me of a pico de gallo with a little hot sauce. It was flavorful and mild. My main course was the Mariscos Casa de Oro. I had it served in an enchilada. The plate had beans, rice, lettuce, guacamole, and sour cream. The flavor was good, but the amount of seafood in the burrito was very small. So I deduct a star for lack of value. I would eat here again but order something with more substance. read more

For a small town in the middle of Iowa it's as authentic as you'll get. It's also very uncommon to find a spot like this in the meat and potatoes for every meal Midwest. Honestly, I was expecting a barely above deplorable performance from Casa De Oro. I'm not being harsh, just realistic. And to be honest, I suggested Taco Johns above this place; but I was pleasantly surprised. There are a few notable things about Casa De Oro. It is a small, family owned business that has a handful of restaurants in the surrounding area that are all managed by the same family. I certainly like the idea of that. This particular location is fairly large and very accommodating. We were with a very large group and the staff had no problems keeping pace. The service was excellent. Within a couple minutes of sitting down we all had our drinks ordered and fresh hot chips and salsa on the table. The salsa was decent with just the right amount of heat and sweet. The menu is pretty typical of what you might see at any given Mexican restaurant. It is fairly large and has a lot of options for combination plates, a la cart items, and desserts. They also had a few lunch specials that come with beans and rice. I had a lunch special that consisted of a chicken enchilada with mole and beans and rice on the side. Now, mole is an art and some places just don't or can't do it right. I wasn't expecting the most authentic flavors, so with that being said, I wasn't too disappointed with what I got on the plate. It was much sweeter than it should have been without the slow heat of the peppers (IMO), and it had a fairly runny consistency. The enchilada itself was good with a lot of nice quality chicken inside. I might add that the could held back on the cheese a little. The beans were good, but those are hard to mess up and the rice was rice. I never eat much of it anyway. My wife ordered a guacamole tostada and a chicken enchilada. The guacamole was 95% tomatoes and was very disappointing. Overall, you're going to get a good Mexican meal in the heartland of America. I'm sure I'll return when I'm back home to visit the folks again, although, Tacos Johns is just down the road and I love me some potato oles. HAHA! read more

Delicious food for a great value. You get fresh chips and salsa immediately when you sit down. The building is clean and very well maintained. Family owned restaurant - you will feel welcomed by the staff. I consistently get the Casa de Oro burrito. It's $9.75 and clearly a very big burrito. No other Mexican restaurant I've been to in Iowa will give you that much food for roughly $10. Holy guacamole! Big plates and big favors!! Loved the atmosphere and the friendliness of the wait staff greeted us as we were seated and the all through the meal we were nicely attended to. if you judge by looks alone, you are in step with at least 87% of the population... seriously, the outside of this place looks sketchy as hell, from the sign that proclaims 'ope', to the rickety ass stairs and greasy door handle, to the awkward entrance. but do not be put off by any of these things! you are greeted and seated almost immediately, a server comes and takes your drink orders, and returns with chips and salsa. the salsa has the kick of a baby kitten, so that was disappointing, but my icy cold corona with lime made up for this. i had steak carnitas - beware - the servings are huge! (don't anyone say 'that's what she said'). i got THREE pieces of steak with the dish, along with all the regulars - rice, beans, sour cream, lettuce, etc. there was no way i could finish all that food, as i had to leave room for my beer. i think the server forgot about me halfway through the meal, as the place started filling up, even though it was after 1:30 p.m. i swear, i saw a lady in a wheelchair and a lady using a walker, making their way up the rickety handicapped available ramp (thank you for caring, casa de oro) - that's how good the food is! my server was running back and forth, but was always smiling and pleasant, even when he got slammed. he finally came back, and gave me a take away container and the check. frankly, i'm shocked at myself for handing out four stars. i usually clench stars in my grubby paws like they are gold doubloons, and the world is coming to an end. however, this place was yummy. and i'm having a good hair day. read more

Fajitas... Get them. The veggies were cooked just right, and they provide plenty of tortillas. Most places skimp on the quantity of tortillas or charge for extra... These guys give you the right amount for the large portion size they are providing. The guacamole was cold & fresh, but I'm not 100% certain if it is homemade. I had the Shrimp Diablo... not very spicy. In fact, I likely wouldn't get it again. The sauce tasted like a 2/3 generic taco sauce and 1/3 ketchup. The shrimp was well cooked--it was just the sauce that disappointed. The beans, rice and mixed lettuce served with it are uninspiring. Additionally, the service is PHENOMENAL. The waiter was very kind. There was this elderly lady who kept walking around to top-off our water glasses. The family environment and hospitality was great. I am a huge fan of the chicken burrito and I would order this on my girls night out. There have been 2 occasions where my chicken burrito was filled with thin needle like prices of bone that were shredded into the chicken. Otherwise it is an amazing dish. Also recommend #27 (I think) it has shrimp in garlic sauce and sides to wrap in their warmed tortillas! Great place to eat but check for bones! Also best sex on the beach mixed drinks as well, they use cranberry juice which I don't care for but I just ask them to use grenadine in place of the cranberry juice. I have been a fan of Casa De Oro since they opened and the food and service has only improved as they have grown. The only time the parking lot isn't packed is the first half hour after they open. Any later than that, you are lucky to find a parking place. The servers are always pleasant and prompt even when they are getting swamped. The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. I would recommend Casa De Oro to anyone looking for a nice place to have a meal. I tip my sombrero to Casa. read more

As a Southern California native, Casa de Oro is my favorite eating establishment in Creston. They have a great range of authentic and Mexi-American dishes. I removed a star for not carrying albodigas soup or horchata. While it is a very clean establishment, it often smells of pinesol or some sort of cleaner in the building, which is a bit to strong while I am eating. But, the food is so good, I remain loyal. read more

Lunch specials run until 3pm and are outstanding-great value/good portions/delicious. I received a full basket of chips and delicious salsa (liquidy consistency but filled with chopped tomatoes, onions, and cilantro) right after sitting down. Service is prompt and no-frills...just my style. Food comes out fast from the kitchen and is piping hot. With 20% tip and tax (and ice water as my drink of choice), it was $7.00 total. Both dishes were served nice and hot. Both were very good. We have been looking for a place in Creston to eat and recommend to others. Now we have found it. Stopped in town for a quick meeting in Creston and was pleasantly surprised - Caso was very good for quick Mex food. My Shrimp and Chicken fajita combo was great and heard nothing but positive. From ordering to plate on table was just a few minutes at 11:30 - started getting busier when lunch crowd arrived but everyone was getting fast service. Staff were ALL very nice and friendly. Free WIFI that actually WORKS was a great bonus and usually doesn't work well at in many smaller towns ... so I was able to catch up on email and a lot of work over lunch. I didn't hear a complaint from any other patrons and they all seemed very satisfied with their meals also. The outdoor patio looked like it could be pretty fun when warmer weather arrives. read more
