This is a very tasty Tex-mex restaurant! Great portion sizes and so much flavor! The taco salad was delicious, made with rice and beans and crisp lettuce the queso was a wonderful addition! The chicken chimichanga was delicious, semi crisped outside and tender flavorful chicken! The service is top notch with friendly staff smiling and quick to keep the glasses full! The setting is with Arizona meets Mexico deco and just beautiful!

This place is very new to the area. My wife, baby daughter and I decided to stop in for dinner on a Saturday night. It's a newer building, was a restaurant/bar/hall previously. Nice and bright inside. All table seating or bar. There was no wait when we got there at about 6. Sat right down. They did not have a high hair, but no biggy. I would classify the menu as more Tex/mex. a large variety! I ordered the Kabobs and my wife ordered the steak fajitas. Wait was reasonable and when the food came it was definitely worth every minute. The portions are HUGE. The flavors weren't spectacular, but what set it apart was the freshness and how the meat was cooked. Most of the time you go to a Mexican place and order Carneasada or Steak and you get WELL done smalls trips of tough skirt steak. My kabob was perfectly medium rare and my wife's fajitas were as well. Plus the strips were thick and tender with a nice grilled char on the outside. It would be like steak you cooked on your own grill. Service was great and the price was extremely reasonable. That is why the is place deserves 5 stars.

Urban on the Square offers a nice variety to the other restaurants in town. As you can see from my…read moremenu pics, they have quite the variety. Each item has a unique, individualistic flair. The interior is quite comfortable: dark booths and soft lighting. But it is still amply lit. While there is a long bar on one side of the restaurant, at least while we were there, there wasn't any loud bar-type background noise/conversations. We started with the appetizer: Inside Out Crab Rangoon, see my pic. What you see in my pic is a bowl of their house made cream cheese crab Rangoon dip which is surrounded by crispy wonton chips for dipping. The dip had the requisite crab Rangoon flavor. There was ample crab meat and the dip was quite creamy. For our palates, it was too sweet. The wonton chips had the flavor down pat, but were quite greasy. We then shared the Chicken Deburgo, see my pic. These are chicken breasts grilled and topped with mushrooms and garlic butter. The chicken breasts were grilled just right. The mushrooms, while not plentiful, were flavorful. The risotto was bland. But when combined with the green beans, which had a ton of garlic (you can see the garlic in my pic), made a great combination. We also shared the House Angus Burger, see my pic. As you can see in my pic, this burger is a fully sized 8 oz burger and was cooked to order. The flavor of the meat was good. My side choice was their Brussel Sprouts. These were caramelized in a balsamic vinegar reduction, so there was a bit of sweetness. They were also good.

We sat in a little corner high top, our waitress was friendly and tentative. Would definitely come back when we're in town again. Highly recommend everything we tried! We started with the dumplings, and they were outstanding--crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. They were the perfect way to start the meal. I ordered the Spicy Beef Ramen, and all I can say is... wow. The broth was rich, bold, and full of depth without overpowering the dish. The beef was incredibly tender, practically falling apart with every bite, and every ingredient came together perfectly. My wife ordered the Miso Ramen and couldn't stop talking about how flavorful and comforting it was. Every spoonful tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The atmosphere was another highlight. The restaurant has a beautiful, open layout with warm lighting, Japanese-inspired décor, and a welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay and enjoy your meal. It feels modern while still being cozy. To top it all off, the service was phenomenal. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling intrusive. Hokkaido delivered on every level--food, atmosphere, and service. We'll definitely be back, and if you're in the Ankeny area and craving ramen, this is a place you need to experience. Highly recommended.

We were just here a few weeks ago and I am so bummed to see they permanently closed!! We came during lunch and took advantage of their weekday lunch combo (Tues-Fri, 11am-2pm), which includes soup and a half grilled cheese. You can choose from the OG, Kick in the Cheese, or Fancy grilled cheese, plus either tomato basil bisque or the soup of the day. Honestly? A dream setup. I ordered the tomato basil bisque with a half OG grilled cheese, and wow... just wow. The soup was rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced, and the grilled cheese delivered that classic, beautiful cheese pull moment you hope for (and rarely actually get). The cheese had the perfect amount of sharpness and subtle bitterness, balancing everything out so well without being overwhelming.. I seriously could go for one right now! Every bite was comforting and delicious, and I immediately wished I had ordered a full OG sandwich because it was that good. The combo was mouth‑watering, satisfying, and wildly exceeded expectations for a quick lunch stop.

We ordered Grilled Cheese of the Month Quesabirria and it was fantastic I would say it just needed more Consomé. We also ordered their Cuban sandwich and it was really good! This place is a classic hole in the wall but it was very clean!
