It has a lot of good reviews but they most be friends of the owner or employees. I had the ribeye and ordered it medium rare. It came out very rare. I don't send orders back because they will over cook it. The steak didn't have much flavor. Service was poor. I sat at the bar and was ready for my check. The waitress walked by twice and turned her back to me so I couldn't ask her for my check. Thank god I don't come to Creston much because there's not many choices for dinner. It wasn't busy, there were only 6 tables with customers. I'll eat at Taco John's before I come back here. And I don't particularly care for Taco John's. read more

Okay, I am an Iowan that knows small town steak houses do great prime rib. In Iowa for vacation from TX I order Spencer's prime rib. My salad and entree come exactly at the same time. Not cool. Prime rib was 6 on a scale of 10. Also ordered French onion soup which was au jus with onions. Not baked with cheese and Italian bread. Not even close. My wife ordered a Cajun pasta steak tips dish that was so salty it was inedible. Go to Mario's or anywhere else for a better experience. read more

Went to Spencer's for a family birthday dinner on a Friday night . Most of us had prime rib and it was great. Cooked to perfection, warm, and tender. BUT.. the dessert stole the show. The oatmeal pie came out still warm with a side of cinnamon ice cream and I truly mean it when I say it's the best dessert I've ever had at a restaurant. We had a larger group of us meet there for dinner last night for a late friends birthday after visiting his grave, and the owner and wonder staff made us feel so at home! We started off with house made shoestring onion rings, mozz sticks and fried pickles, all fantastic. All of our food was out super timely, never had to want for a refill on our drinks and they even brought us out some of the homemade oatmeal pie and cinnamon ice cream dessert, let me tell you.. If you go to Spencer's and dont get that dessert, you are missing out. The oatmeal pie was crispy, gooey and warm, the cinnamon ice cream was heavenly on top. We went here for date night tonite. Very busy tonite, very loud, very hot in the building. We ordered drinks at the bar to wait on our table. Amerrato Sour was good. Hubby had Bud in bottle. Got to our table before drinks finished. We ordered the Boneless wings with Buffalo sauce as an appetizer. These were very good. The Ranch sauce tasted like it had mayo in it though. I had the 10 ounce Ribeye (well) & Baked potato with side salad with Ranch dressing. Steak was perfect, as I like my steaks very well done. A1 Steak sauce was watered down. It's usually thicker. Potato was as to be expected, served with butter & sour cream. I thought it should of come with a roll but that's my opinion. ($18) The salad was iceberg lettuce, diced tomatoes, 3 croutons, & 2 small onion pieces. The Ranch dressing again tasted like mayo with ranch flavoring. Did not like it much. (Salad was included with the meal) Hubby had the Fish N Chips. He said fish was great but only got maybe 10 small steak fries & were plain & not flavorful. What a great addition to Crestons dining experience! The food and service has been great so far. I have tried the Steak Oscar which was a Ribeye with asparagus and hollandaise sauce over it, the steak with that combination had a great flavor together. I recently went with my family and split a Prime Rib with my mom and still had left overs to take home! We also ordered the Avacado Egg Roll appetizer that was very good and had enough for four people to try. They do have a kids menu and my daughter loved the spaghetti! When we ordered the chocolate milk, they came to let us know they were out and had someone run to the store to get it, instead of just asking if we wanted another option (which I would have been fine with) and they had my daughters chocolate milk within a few minutes! What great service! The flavor of the Prime Rib was delicious and it was so juicy and tender I could cut it with a fork! Definitely the BEST Prime Rib I have had so far! The garlic gouda mashed potatoes were delicious and had a great flavor and not overwhelming with garlic (the potatoes and soups could be a little warmer) and the house dressing for the salad has been very good as well. The remodel of this building looks fantastic and has a great classy vibe to it. There are nice high backed booths, high and low tables to sit at and a full bar as well! The t.v.s had a fireplace playing on them and there was nice classy music playing. It was very clean inside and had very nice restrooms as well. The menu had steak, chicken, seafood, pastas and sandwiches. They offer daily specials and are open Tues-Sat for dinner. For the parking there is a few street parking spaces but other than that you might have to look for a space across the street from the building, but nothing would be a long walk! One time there was a red cinnamon apple slice on the plate, that was a nice little addition to the dinner and very tasty. One thing I wish they did have would be some bread while you are waiting or with the meal. I have also tried the Oatmeal pie with cinnamon ice cream, that was AMAZING!!! What a terrific restaurant! We had a large party and between all of us we had many things from the menu: Prime Rib, steaks, chicken, and fish. Everyone was happy with their food. The service was very good. The chef/owner came out to check that everything was ok. I especially recommend having an appetizer of the deep fried onion rings, which are small rings with very little batter and not greasy at all. They were maybe the best onion rings I have ever had! Also don't miss the oatmeal pie with ice cream. It sounds strange but it is fantastic. We were visiting Des Moines from LA and had driven to Creston for a family event. We went to Spencer's for a family dinner. We had prime rib, beef au jus sandwich and walleye. I had the walleye. The fish was OK but also have a funny look to it. Should have known not to have fish at a new place. By the middle of the night I was deathly ill. I can only assume that they got a bad shipment or that the fish was outdated.
