Primm Nevada is about 40 miles south of Las Vegas (LV), NV. It's a very small community of Primm that sits right next to 15 Fwy and is not far from the Nevada-California border. Visitors from Southern California must pass through here as they head into or from LV. I have made stops here in the past myself for restroom breaks, a visit at Whiskey Pete's, a shopping stroll in its impressive 100 store factory outlet at Fashion Outlets of LV, and even a couple nights stay at Primm Valley Resort & Casino. Within this community, they also have golf courses, a thrilling rollercoaster, a rollercoaster at Buffalo Bill's Resort and Casino has a 225-foot drop, which makes it one of the tallest rollercoasters in North America. Cool! I looked up Primm to see what else it has to offer. If you're into nature wonder, Ivanpah Dry Lakebed is a popular landsailing destination. Primm has also hosted several world-famous events, including the 1997 World's Strongest Man competition. Sweet! If you're into motorsports, annual racing events are held in Primm throughout the year. Nice!

I have to Second those Yelpers who rated Primm aka 'Stateline,' 3-stars.... As much as I've enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, NV prior to the Pandemic, those days are gone now till I figure out a solution with the new hobbies I picked up during the Pandemic. Rating this border 3 stars because it was Always so extremely Smokey inside 'Stateline.' Even though it was a convenient rest stop for tourists taking pics, getting a quick meal fix, or using the restrooms at the Outlets before driving into Las Vegas city itself, just the smokiness was something else. They could have upgraded their Central Air System? We would stop at the McDonalds here or just go straight to the food court inside the Outlets which I heard from my cousin nowadays that it didn't make it through the Pandemic?!

This is the small town that many a motorist passes through when travelling between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Like many other travel stops in the country, this place offers everything you'd need to make a pit stop before hitting the long open road again. The travel center here has clean restrooms, a gas station, some food options, and Starbucks. Close to this travel center sits hotels with casinos. There is a roller coaster in front of one hotel, although I've never seen it running. One interesting landmark of this small town is the Lotto store, which officially sits on the California side of the state border. This is a good place to take a breather and to fuel up. For food, I would wait until you reach Vegas or LA, as there are far better options in the major cities. For snacks and refreshments, its not too shabby.

    Outlet stop!

Coming from California, you know you are a mere 1/2 hour away from Las Vegas when you reach Primm. Why should you stop at Primm? - to stretch your legs - to check out the Outlets, good variety of stores, but terrible inventory - to grab a bite to eat - to use the toilets - to get your first taste of gambling Do not get gas at Primm unless you are on fumes. If you can make it another 1/2 hour, you can get gas in Vegas, even right as you approach the M Hotel. Don't even get Starbucks, as the prices are jacked up, and not even done right. Do not stay at the hotels here unless you're too tired to drive to Vegas, or if Vegas is completely sold out. The hotels are sketchy and even if Vegas is sold out, you're better off going to Henderson. Primm is just the gateway to get to Vegas, or if you're leaving Vegas, its your last chance to burn some cash at the slots or tables. You can also get a California Lotto ticket on the California side.

It sounded so awesome... it's a significantly important spot where the two teams of railroad track builders met and completed their mission! Alana and I set out to find The Last Spike. We followed the Yelp directions and walked from Las Vegas Boulevard to the railroad track, across and south of the Seven Magic Mountains. We were unable to find the marker. However, I found some loose, rusty spikes. Alana explained that they are dislodged with the vibration of the trains on the tracks...wow! Anyway, using Google maps, Alana found the informational sign across from where The Last Spike should be. It's on the same side of the road as Seven Magic Mountains and south of it. Hopefully, you'll be able to find it if you decide to take a look. It's an interesting piece of history !

Las Vegas Blvd to the railroad tracks over uneven desert sand, rocks, a small trench, cacti, and other things. It would have all been okay if I hadn't been doing this with recently bruised ribs! Sadly, we didn't even need to be out this way! After safely getting back to the car, I took a look on Google and found the right location. When in doubt, Google it! It is south of the location pin on Yelp. If you are coming from the Seven Magic Mountains (or Las Vegas), head south and it is on the same side of the road. If you pass the train bridge which crosses the road, you've gone just a little too far. This Last Spike is Nevada Historical Marker 195. This location is near where workers drove the last spike on January 30, 1905. It's always good to learn a little history. This was a neat piece of history to learn! There is a gravel path where you can drive right up to the sign. The Kia Soul made it up just fine. If you have doubts about driving on it, you can park near the entrance. There was a huge silver sign that we didn't see, maybe it is now gone? It said, "Track crews constructing West from Salt Lake City met track crews constructing East from Los Angeles". This sign should have been visible when we wandered to the tracks. I hope you will find this more easily than we did! I must say, we did have quite the adventure!!

I don't know why I have never been through here in my entire life, but it was neat to see the landscape and feeling like I was playing Frogger as I was trying to avoid all the potholes in the 2 lane road. One random stop we came across in the middle of the preserve was the Kelso Depot. I only stopped because I saw that there was a restroom that we could use, and then was surprised to see an actual visitor center to peruse. From the signage out front here's the history: "Built in 1924, the Kelso Depot housed a train station, ticket and telegraph office, restaurant, reading room, and dormitory rooms for railroad employees. It was often called the Kelso Club House, a Union Pacific Railroad term for employee boarding and recreational facilities. As railroad technology improved and fewer personnel were needed, the Depot became obsolete. It was closed in 1985, and Union Pacific planned to raze the building. Concerned citizens intervened and the building was saved. It was renovated and reopened as a National Park Service Visitor Center in October 2005." The Depot is currently under construction as of 12/2025, but you can walk around the building and peek in through the windows. Apparently the area around the depot was like a little village during WW II. It's neat to imagine what life would've been like living out here in the middle of nowhere back in the 1940's. There's no internet out in Kelso, but you can log into the NPS Wi-Fi while you're there.

We made a reservation for a Friday tour a few days beforehand. Thankfully, we did because it was sold out. To make sure you are putting in the correct address just copy and paste directly from the business website. It was actually very easy to get there. Once you arrive, there is parking right in front of the general store and across the street. The location literally looks like it's out of a movie. In fact, several movies were filmed here, including 3000 miles to Graceland. Be sure to check in once you arrive and they will tell you where to wait for the tour. It is $20 each. They do take cash or card. There is a gift shop as well as some food and drinks for purchase. While you wait for your tour, you can look around the grounds which has old buildings as well as vehicles and other points of interest. The tour starts outside of the general store where the tour guide tells you some basic information. You then move inside for another presentation with photos and videos. The walk to the mine is roughly about a quarter mile. It is an easy walk, but it is not paved. The temperature inside the mine is about 68°. They do advise you to bring a light jacket, but I don't think one was really necessary. You spend roughly an hour inside the mine. The tour guide will show you different tools and actually use them and point out different types of rocks and mining techniques. It was very informational, but also fun at the same time. I highly recommend for all ages!

The Junior League of Las Vegas uses this house as its headquarters but it was also their mission to preserve the house as one of their projects. The house is a great example of mid-century modern architecture. Originally, it was located on the golf course of the Desert Inn Country Club Estates on the Sands/Twain side. When Steve Wynn bought the Desert Inn, the houses from the Estates were leveled except for the Morelli house which was able to be moved. It was the only home with a crawl space and thus could be lifted up to be moved. The house was donated to the Junior League. Part of the tour is a video of moving the house on September 30, 2001, and it's quite interesting to see its move to Eastern, down to Fremont, and up 9th to Bridger. The interior contains many things we don't see in houses today. The tile work of the sinks in the bathroom are amazing, and the step down shower in the master bath is amazing.
