I decided to start with a Caesar salad, followed by Bucatini Alla Enzo for the entree. Until today, I hadn't had the pleasure of trying bucatini, but this unique pasta might just be my new favorite. It was just the right portion of pasta with a wonderful garlic sauce accompanied by fresh mushrooms and peas. I grabbed a piece of lemon cheesecake to-go, and gave my seat to a waiting patron. Why not, right? The restaurant is easy to miss. It sits right on the corner in an old shanty building nestled in the middle of downtown Memphis. The furniture and décor were of a standard Chinese eatery, nothing special; but the employees were warm and welcoming, greeting me with hellos and smiles. I got the black pepper chicken that came with a spring roll. I ordered an extra side of pork egg rolls because that's usually my go to. Everything was fantastic! It gives you the taste of that old school Chinese food you used to have as a kid, but better quality. The chicken was moist, flavorful and peppery. The egg rolls had the perfect amount of crispy crunch---they seemed handmade as well! Pricing is a little higher from when I was a kid, but you still won't break the bank here! My burger arrived cold, the Texas toast was not toasted, cheese was cold, some grilled onion, no jalapeños. The fries were cold and limp. The smash burger was good. We sent the fries and Texas toast burger back. They brought a new basket of fries which were warm and crispy (much better). The toast on the burger was brought back toasted but there was still no jalapeños. They took it back again and put lots of cold jalapeños on it. It was horrible, sent it back and did not want replacement. They did take it off the bill. The service was extremely slow. Needless to say I will not go back to that location. I have recently eaten at the Hueys in Germantown and it was excellent.
