3/12/24 Primary Care Physicians 605 NE 1st ST. Gainesville, FL 32601. My appointment time was 8 am. The nurse Anna wasn't friendly today or two weeks ago. I had told Dr. Innocent Odocho about this but he didn't apologize or say he'd follow up Then during my visit he had turned-gears by talking to me like a parent scolding his child. He kept repeating "It's that simple" resulting in me leaving or walking out from my visit. I felt insulted and pissed... I don't think my Insurance should be charged when a patient has been treated harshly. read more

If you have no serious medical issues, and only need to be seen once or twice a year, then I guess this practice would be okay for you. However, if you have a medical condition that requires close monitoring and medication adjustments and frequent communication with providers, I'd strongly encourage you to find another practice. This practice has serious phone problems. Calls are often dropped, and voicemail boxes are often full so no messages can be left. If you are lucky enough to be able to leave a message, don't expect a quick reply -- if they even bother to try to return the call at all. I've waited over a week for a reply/response. When I mentioned their phone troubles to the staff, their response was very nonchalant, and they shrugged it off as this was their "normal" and you can pretty much take it or leave their practice. It's interesting that they blame their communication issues on Covid-19 rather than trying to simply fix the issue. When I'd finally get a text from Dr. Odocha, he'd text a greeting and wouldn't reply further for 45 minutes later, blaming it on their "system." Sometimes he wouldn't respond at all past the greeting. This makes it extremely frustrating when trying to get adjustments to medication. This process shouldn't be that stressful or difficult, which is why I changed to a practice that has a fully functioning phone system, with phones that are answered by a real human and not a phone tree. I have had appts with Katie the DNP, and found her to be very caring and thorough. Sadly, it doesn't really matter how wonderful the providers in this practice are if I cannot reach them to ask questions about medications or to make an appt. Also, they keep a dog in the office with them. I find that quite unsanitary. Had they informed me that they keep a dog in the office, I would have never selected this practice in the first place because I'm highly allergic. Not everyone is a dog lover, and this practice doesn't seem to care about those with animal hair or dander allergies. If they did care, they'd let you know ahead of time they keep an animal in the office prior to scheduling. read more

I have been seeing Dr.s Odocha and Taffe (who recently left the practice for a great opportunity with the City of Gainesville) for many years, with occasional visits with Katie Swan, Mi Dean, and Cody Gerhart. My experience has been extremely positive. The doctors are professional and very knowledgeable and are generally willing to spend time answering questions and explaining procedures and other details until I am confident in my understanding. Having blood drawn, ultrasound, and some prescription refills are done in-house; and the receptionists and related staff have always been friendly and accommodating. I recommend this practice without reservation. After nearly 60 years of "decent" and "okay" doctors, I have finally found a place I truly enjoy visiting. read more

I had a terrible experience here. New in town, and I had to pick someone for my HMO insurance plan. The doctor featured on the website was no longer with the practice, but I was encouraged (when I called) to see the nurse who had worked with that doctor. Big mistake. When I developed a bad infection after an accident, this nurse didn't treat it appropriately. She offered no help with the intense itching and the way it was spreading--she offered no help except to say "come back if it gets worse" but she said that on two visits I made because it was worse. The antibiotics didn't work, and she didn't do a culture. I realized she was clueless after doing some research plus what I learned from a doctor at an urgent care center. It was so bad it was spreading all over my body in little bumps and oozing yellow pus all over my calves, and I had to find help. The urgent care doctor could see what was going on right away, and I was prescribed over-the-counter relief for the itching, over-the-counter antibiotic cleanser, and an antibiotic that worked. Plus specific instructions for how to care for the problem, which improved right away (and I got relief plus badly needed sleep). I was finally in good hands. This nurse should have got one of the doctors involved--they might be fine, though I don't know. Or she should have sent me to someone more experienced, maybe a dermatologist. As it is, I have scars and discoloration on my legs now unlike anything I've ever had. Plus the suffering--it was awful and took over a month to clear up and another month for thick layers of skin to dry up and peel off. Worst experience I've ever had--and it didn't have to happen. If she would have acted immediately, this wouldn't have happened. Plus I've learned it can infect bones and other parts of the body, like the brain. Life threatening, in other words. Also, they charged me for a co-pay when my insurance plan clearly states the first 3 visits require no co-pay--they pay in full. Office staff didn't want to hear it so I paid, figuring they'd refund me as soon as they looked into it. But they didn't. I had to make all sorts of phone calls to get my money back for three visits, and I never got the last one because I misplaced the receipt for a cash payment instead of debit, if I even got one (I don't think so). I'm sure if you have the flu or something common, this place knows how to handle it. My feeling from this nurse, though, is that they don't know how to handle something unusual (I don't know if my situation was unusual, though). And they're not caring enough or confident enough to send you to someone who knows how to handle it. You're on your own if things don't go right. It's also possible they're constricted by HMO insurance policies, which is still not serving the patient and, in my case, resulted in disaster. read more

This has been my primary care provider during my time in Gainesville as a student. They have a very nice staff and Dr. Dean is great. I would definitely recommend this place to anybody in search of a new PCP. They are great at scheduling you quickly and they get you in and out when you are there. The waiting room is very nice and comfortable and the exam rooms are clean and nice as well. Give them a shot. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Innocent Odocha for over 3 years. Of all of the doctors I have seen over the years he is w/o a doubt the best. He actually spends time with me in the exam room w/o regard to how much of his valuable time is utilized. He explains in detail what his exam has revealed. He explains in detail what the medical problem is and how to best approach it with a treatment plan. He explains what medication he is prescribing and how it is expected to remedy my situation. He answers my questions and makes sure I understand his answers. His medical staff is of equal professionalism. They explain what they are doing and why. They also answer my questions. They always greet me by name and ask how my day is going. The medical staff can be the reason why any patient will or will not return for medical care. The team approach Primary Care Institute utilizes is most effective. Their professionalism is most appreciated. I'm extremely disappointed in my experience here. The receptionists were beyond unfriendly, the wait time was over an hour past my appointment time, and Dr. Tarif prescribed me the wrong medication and completely omitted prescribing me another one I needed. I have been taking this particular medication for over ten years, and due to his error, I haven't been able to take it consistently which resulted in a severe negative impact on my mental health. After calling the office four times (and being told they would call me right back every time, but to no followup), I was finally able to get the right prescription, but in the wrong dosage. He only gave me 1/3 of the amount I need, and this has yet to be resolved. I've called the office and been put on hold for up to thirty minutes at a time, and when I hang up out of frustration and call back, my call is answered immediately. Once I'm able to get enough of the prescription I need for the month, I'm going to a different primary care provider. read more
