Sarkis is on the more expensive side, does not accept insurance, but you get what you pay for. I saw Dr. Solomon until I moved out of state. She was very friendly, compassionate, listened to my needs and sought to meet them. She did seem to be in favor of ECT treatment and brought it up occasionally with me, but ultimately left the decision to me (which I declined). Before Sarkis, I was miserable, bouncing around between medications that either had no benefit or had horrible side effects or were completely unaffordable (I'm looking at you, Latuda, at $1300 for a month's supply). After months of frustration I came to Sarkis looking for better care and found it. My overall experience was great. Front office staff was friendly, professional, and very good with follow up communication. Dr. Solomon was compassionate and followed up with me even when I had moved away from Florida. They got me stabilized and more than just functional, but back to my old self prior to onset of bipolar disorder. I would hands down recommend Sarkis to anyone that can afford it.

When we moved to Florida in 2014 I received a recommendation to see Dr Berry at the Shands Sleep Center at the University of Florida. Dr Berry fitted me with a CPAP machine, which worked well, but only treated the apnea. Dr Berry felt I needed a psychiatrist who specialized in pharmacological treatments for complex sleep issues. He recommended a Dr Johnson at Sarkis family psychiatry. Dr Johnson did an excellent job developing a mix of meds that really helped. They were pramipexol, clonazepam, and amphetamine. He also gave specific instructions on how do ween down or gradually raise dosages when he changed dosage. I never experienced any negative side effects. He did warn that clonazepam and amphetamine could be addictive. But assured me, that as long as I adhered to my dosages there was very little chance of that happening. He also started me on a program of pre-sleep activities that also enhanced my sleep patterns. I followed his regime religiously and was very pleased with his care and the results I was experiencing. I saw Dr Johnson every two-three months for 2 and a half years, until he took a teaching position at the University of Florida. Sarkis then assigned me to a psysciatric nurse practitioner - Kathy Noffsinger. She was kind and caring and continued the regime set by Dr Johnson. However, about 8 months ago, she suggested a change of meds. I told her that everything was good and did not see a need to change. She implied the new drug could even be better and safer. So, I said okay. After a short time, I because experiencing renewed episodes from my chronic conditions. She never gave me a "weening" plan. And when an industry-wide shortage occurred in one of the meds, she did another substitution, and again without a weening period. When I insisted on going back to Dr Johnson's plan. She would only say her hands were tied because the CDC came out with new "recommendations" for using clonazepam and amphetamine together. My dosage had been 10 mg amphetamine once in the am, once at lunch and once in the afternoon. My dosage for the clonazepam was 10 mg just before bed. During all the years I was under Sarkis' care I never asked for an increase in dosage, I never went doctor or pharmacy shopping, and certainly did not look for illegal sources. I researched the CDC "recommendation" and found that doctors, under their discretion, could still prescribe both drugs at the same time. Especially if the patient was having his syndromes controlled and there was no indication of abuse. I am a 78 year old man. And have shown no signs of abuse. I think Sarkis Family psychiatry is afraid of being scrutinized for "off-label" prescriptions (which is legal). but would mean more paperwork for them. My opinion is that they rigidly adhere to the CDC recommendation to under-prescribe. Thus requiring more patient visits to their office. A line item in the Hypocratic Oath is "DO NO HARM". I question how committed is Dr Sarkis is to that oath. Finally, since they don't take insurance, there is no watchdog over the efficacy and frequence of their treatments. AVOID SARKIS AT ALL COSTS. She actually taught me how to cope when things get overwhelming for me. Honestly, a life changing experience for me, for the better. Counselors are not a one size fits all; find someone you truly trust and with whom you can speak freely without embarrassment or judgement. Susan was this for me. A truly wonderful person who wants her clients to heal; she's not looking for long term clients. She wants to help you so you can move on in a positive way. We incorporated numerous techniques (such as EDMR, I can't even remember the name some of them) and I'm able to use these techniques now by myself. I'm not one who wants to just sit and talk about things with a counselor (had that for years and never got anywhere), I wanted actions I could take to make my life bearable. Susan was extremely helpful in that respect. She's definitely worth a look to see if you fit well together. I'm certainly glad I found her.

As a nationally certified mental health counselor, Susan Crews specializes in trauma treatment…read more(PTSD) and is certified in two mental health arenas: EMDR and Neurofeedback. She is excellent at her craft: extremely knowledgeable, professional, friendly, compassionate, & accommodating. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing. It is a form of psychotherapy in which the patient recalls distressing images while generating bilateral sensory input. Neurofeedback is a medication-free healing treatment for those who suffer from anxiety, ADHD, OCD, insomnia, etc. In a relaxed setting, it involves the patient watching (on a computer monitor) his/her own brain's activity. Susan Crews also works w/ individuals who may suffer w/ depression, anger, substance abuse, & numerous other mental health issues. Most health insurances are accepted. Call to discuss an appointment date & time; do NOT show up without an appointment as this therapist's days/times vary weekly. (She has a secondary office in Trenton, FL while her Gainesville office is located within Tucker Chiropractic off NW 39th Ave.) This incredibly kind & qualified woman saved my life, but she is too humble to realize just how much she helped me. I had interviewed six PTSD counselors before selecting Ms. Crews. I couldn't have selected a better counselor. I shall always consider her a friend-- just a genuinely GOOD human being.

It's all about who you can connect with and I can't speak highly enough of Dr. Tanya Mickler. She's super smart, kind, has so many tools to help with integrating mind, body, and spirit. In my experience, I could talk until the cows come home and experience very little change. Dr. Mickler helps integrate what my mind thinks and my body feels, she helps me bridge the connection between KNOWING that I'm a pretty great person and actually FEELING like a pretty great person. I can't speak to all the people within the practice, but Dr. Mickler is brilliant. Aaaaaand she takes my insurance!

The practice is fairly large for a therapy practice according to Dr Evans, but they seem to have an expert to cover pretty much any problem. That's nice to know that they won't direct someone to a psychologist who isn't really familiar with their specific problem. I know that Dr Evans continues to teach at UF, so I feel good that he is knowledgeable and is well respected in the community. I sent a work colleague to him for some help for her son, she also was very happy with him and it sounds like he really helped her son. He is very easy-going and can be funny when he wants to. I liked that about him. He is clearly very smart but he doesn't talk over your head. I really liked that it was a real conversation with him. It made me feel at ease and I opened up more quickly than I thought that I would. I would say to anyone that you should try and do some research on any Thanks psychologist. I did mine and I'm glad that I did.

My daughter had a therapy session back in May that she paid for out of pocket for $175 now they just charged her card $206.40 because they had it on file, they didn't give her a bill or an invoice or any notification that they were charging her card. This place is a scam do not go and do not give them any personal information! They are crooks and I am in the middle of a battle with them and my bank to reverse the charge. crooks crooks crooks!!!

We finally go in, and it's not a therapy session, it's just an intake questionnaire appointment - we could have done that over the phone, but instead we wasted half a day off school. Anyway at the end of the appointment we were told "someone" would call us to set up therapy. 3 weeks later nobody had contacted us, so I contacted them and was told they do NOT have any therapists for teens in Gainesville and her only option would be to drive to Jacksonville or do a Zoom session, which my daughter said she did not want to do. So they provided no services, then had the nerve to send my insurance a bill for $584.63. FRAUD.

I was confused because it's a physical therapist/chiropractors office and when I went inside there was just a man on a treadmill and no one else. I walked back outside, called, no answer, left a voicemail. Walked back inside and finally a woman came out and told me to sit down and that Rachel rents a room from them and she'd be out to get me. Finally it's 10:30 and I'm still waiting- I approached the woman again and she stated that Rachel's car was not outside so she's not even there. I called, no answer, left another voicemail saying I was leaving. Rachel didn't call me back until 2pm after I sent an email to her around 1:45pm. She called and apologized, stating she was looking at last weeks calendar and that it was an accident. Accidents happen, I get it, but I just thought it was really unprofessional that she never called till hours later after I had to reach out numerous times and then through email. This could have been a really really bad situation for someone. I feel like if you're a therapist and working with fragile people you have to be more responsible.
