Margaret makes the best soups in the city, full stop. She sources the best ingredients and puts a lot of love in to each delicious spoonful. I have a new favorite, each time I come here. Sometimes, it's the carrot ginger. Sometimes the borscht. Many times, it's been the African Peanut Stew. I have way too many empty tubs of Moroccan Lentil to count.
With so many varieties that get their flavor inspiration from different parts of the world, you'd think something was bound to get lost in translation. Margaret is one white lady that gets Coconut Thai Curry correct. Nothing bland or missing. Every spice note hit in a seamless dance that makes me happy to drop stacks on frozen soup, even when I'm full from circling the market for lunch. On a cold winter day, I'm happy to stop right here for lunch and enjoy whatever vegan flavor is available. It's always delicious.
$12 might seem steep for a tub of frozen soup, but that works out to $6 per serving (or $12 per serving - I'm not judging), and you've probably paid way more than that for a mediocre storebought soup elsewhere. Each tub is full of premium ingredients and slow soup skills that would show up any Grandma at Sunday dinner. Not to mention, every single soup is gluten free and there's a variety of vegan options. Not just one!
If you buy a vegan soup for you, and a non-vegan soup for your dinner pal, you save $2. Or you can buy 2 soups for yourself and still save $2. If you stop in often enough, you'll have bought 10 soups, saved $20 and earned a free soup. I like things that reward me for eating. I like soup. I love Margaret almost as much as I love discounts.
