I went there for an eye test and paid $75. Never had eyeglasses before so the prescription was very hard to understand. I wanted to order glasses online so called back to understand how to fill out my prescription online. The lady who worked there (maybe the owner) was colossally rude (probably because I didn't buy my lens/fame through them). She was snappy, patronizing, and refused to give straight answers. At one point even told me to talk to my own optometrist. Finally I requested a callback from the guy who did my eye test (who was nice). She said sure, but it never happened. Horrendous customer service. Please do not waste your money with these bitter and belligerent people. read more

I have been going to Pride Optical for many years now since the late 90's to be exact. I have found the staff to be friendly and quite knowledgeable. There have been times when I have spent a couple of hours just picking out frames alone. The crew their are open and honest about the styles that really suit my face. In fact, there have been times when I've special ordered frames from the store catalogs. The opticians have been equally as professional and knowledgeable. Any questions I have asked were definitely answered to my satisfaction. I especially like the fact that they call me promptly to let me know when my order is ready. Honestly the attention to detail and their kindness and patience with their customers is incredible! I go there every now to adjust and clean my glasses and they do it for me completely free whereas other places would prbly charge you. This has been the worst experience I have ever had buying anything. I am so frustrated with my experience at Pride Optical that I don't even want to spend the time reviewing it but feel I have to. First I choose my frames. I am told the only pair they have in stock are a sample pair that look bent. I ask if I can have a new pair. They offer to order one for me. I am told it will take a few days to receive the new frame. A week goes by and I haven't heard from them. I call and they tell me the frames are on back order. I believe it's common courtesy to call the customer if they won't get their purchase when it was promised. They tell me that they don't know when the frames will be available. Meanwhile I am left without the glasses I need. The worse part of this whole experience has been the people who have been very unpleasant in both the way they have addressed me and in their tone. I am an understanding person and these things happen. All I would have needed was a pleasant person explaining the situation rather than the sales person who was just short of yelling at me. "It is your fault you don't have your glasses yet" he said. I am in disbelief. I warn you to spare yourself of dealing with the worse service I have ever experienced and avoid Pride Optical. read more

I've been coming to this optical ever since I moved to New York. It was the closest and most conveniently located place for me to get my contact lenses and so I decided to give it a try and I've been going back ever since. Adam, the owner, is super nice and he always gives me extra bottles of solution with my boxes of contact lenses (I love those, they're so convenient to carry around in my purse). They're an extremely reliable place to get anything from your eyes checked to filling a contact lens prescription or even getting eyeglasses and I really don't understand why they've been poorly rated. I've been a consistent customer of theirs for two years now and I think they're great, very efficient service. I'd highly recommend them. read more

The owner and employees here excel at customer service. They also have a really great selection of frames. I had never been here, but I walked in because my glasses needed a small repair. I had been to another store that didn't take the time or effort to really help me. Adam went above and beyond; he was able to find and use a specific screw for my glasses. If I had gone with what the other store did, rather haphazardly, my glasses would have broken again. Beyond all of that, to pay for his service and parts, Adam only asked for me to make a small donation to his breast cancer running team, which I happily did. Pride was recommended by my ophthalmologist whose husband got her glasses there. It was convenient to my new office so I took her advice. I didn't regret it. Their prices were better than the places I have been going to in Chelsea and mid-town but it was with service that they really shined. They worked patiently with me to choose some frames. I got both regular and sunglasses and they worked out a deal for both. I have progressives and everyone at Pride was thoughtful in how they fit them and accommodating when I was having trouble with one of the lenses. They didn't hesitate to send it back and get a replacement even though it was a while before I pinpointed the issue. I was always treated in a friendly and professional manner. i have not enjoyed my experience with Pride. First of all they sold me a pair of discontinued frames and when it broke they could not replace them. Instead of spending more money I decided to go with frames paid for by my union. They had all the Davis frames under the counter. I found one that I liked and after a few months that also broke. I got a replacement which broke in less than a month I took them back and was told that they would call me. I took my prescription to another place where there was a really great selection of Davis frames and got new glasses. After weeks of not hearing from Pride I stopped in and was told that they had explained to me that the warranty was up and the glasses could not be replaced. They also said the girl who had been working on the issue was not in nad they would check with her and get back to me. Then I was told that they believed I had picked up the glasses. And repaired them myself?? That's three different stories. They have never once called me back so what are the chances they will this time? Definitely poor service. read more

I work a few blocks from Pride Optical and I have to tell you, this place beats all other places that I had gone to in the past. I am not a big fan of glasses but I had to start wearing them because I have a stigmatism and wearing contacts for long periods of hours wasn't helping my eyes. I was recommended by my a friend that had gone to Pride Optical before and I have to tell you that I was a was bit skeptical. Money was a HUGE concern for me and I knew that glasses weren't cheap ANYWHERE. I never like glasses to begin with. I thought i didn't look good with them. I tried my luck with Pride and I have to tell you that I haven't gone back to contacts. I wear my glasses all the time. They were attentive and they took the time to sit with me and help me pick out a frame that would match my face. Most places they just want to sell you the highest and popular brands and that is their way of convincing you that you look good in glasses. The price were reasonable but to be honest, I wouldn't have mind paying a bit more because of the customer service and the friendliness atmosphere was great. This is probably the worst store of its kind. I have been wearing glasses since the 5th grade (I am in my forties now) and never have I had to return glasses because of defects. With the first pair, after less than a month, the lenses became fogged up for no reason. I think it was the cheap way the transitions lenses were treated. I work in the same building upstairs and had to call several times before I was told if they were fixable or not. Now the same cheap frames simply broke in my hand and I brought them in this morning. I am still waiting 4 hours later for a phone call letting me know if they can be fixed or what. These people have no credible customer service and always seem unreachable despite the fact that this overpriced store is never crowded. I suggest you shop elsewhere, this place is a joke. read more

i had a terrible experience at cohen's optical, where one sales person didnt know how to adjust my new glasses to fit my face and another sales person tried to convince me that the glasses she adjusted were not crooked on my face when they clearly were. later she blamed that on the asymmetry of my face. i had to reorder a whole new pair. the glasses i finally got from then fell out of my bag and the lenses got scratched up. i went to Pride Optical and within minutes my problem was resolved. the glasses were sent out for new lenses, the manager gave me a biiiiig discount and two days later my glasses were fixed. no problems, no attitude, no bs. this is the place to go. they have so many beautiful frames and the staff is very helpful. read more

I have very thick lenses and need plastic frames to hold/hide them. I searched several optical places and couldn't find the right pair for my face shape and lens thickness. I stopped in and Adam worked with me for about 45 minutes. We probably went through 30 pairs! He had one last idea, and they were perfect. (I love them so much I should probably buy an extra frame before they get discontinued, which happened to my Ray-Bans). He was patient and knowledgeable. Additionally, he suggested I see an opthamologist to get my prescription since it's so high. That made confident that he was legit with taking care of my eyes - he's willing to send me to someone else so he could do his best work with the frames/lenses. He also dealt with the insurance company for me which lightened that burden. Two weeks after I dropped the prescription off, I had my glasses and they look great. I went back a couple times for adjustments which he as happy to do for free. Even with vision insurance the purchase was expensive (a colleague joked my lenses are cut from the Hubble Telescope. Ha!). Most people probably won't have the heavy expense I unfortunately have to deal with. But they'll last me a few years so it'll all even out in the end. read more
