Bought a fish here and added it to my tank. 4 hours later that fish is dead. There are no signs about any live fish policies at all. The employee helping me was great versus other times when I would be ignored. It's a mixed bag here even if they do have a "great" variety of fish for Michigan. I have been to smaller and more well run aquarium stores and would suggest going to a smaller one for higher quality of fish.

This is the coolest pet store I've ever been to. From the outside, you can tell it's going to be special! The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly, and you can tell that they take pet ownership very seriously here. They offer classes and it looks like they'll help you get started if you're new to the exotic pet or aquarium world. This would be a great place to take the kids on a rainy day - it's almost like visiting a zoo. Lots of lizards, frogs, spiders, scorpions, ferrets, birds and FISH! So many fish! Freshwater and saltwater. HUGE tanks. So many beautiful corals. And ANYTHING you could want to decorate your tank. From false plants to real ones, Spongebob houses to driftwood. Amazing! There is a waterfall outside and a huge sculpture creature - you can't miss it! I'd recommend this place for anyone visiting the Lansing area, for sure.

One of the coolest pet stores I've ever been to. We got to look at lots of birds. There was sooo many fish there. They sold the suckers with the bugs in them. It was very neat on the inside and out.

It was my first time visiting Preuss Pets. I drove all the way from Grand Rapids as I have been following their Facebook page for over a year and have heard from other individuals what a fantastic store it is. It definitely blew my expectations right from the get go. I can see why it's been a gem in Lansing, Michigan for several years. I highly recommend this store to everyone - the animals are in excellent shape, the customer service is wonderful, staff are very knowledgeable, enclosures were kept in pristine condition, and there's such a large selection of toys, cages, and anything else your heart desires!

This place never fails to amaze me. The freshwater fish in particular. I went in, extremely excited, because every time I've been here, I had an extremely good time. The staff are always super knowledgeable, and are extremely nice. I enjoyed talking to Nikki, she helped me out a ton, and we shared some experiences with our fish. And don't even get me started with the display tanks. They were gorgeous, just, gorgeous. There was one in particular that looked like maybe a 75g long female Betta sorority with CPDs (Celestial Pearl Danios) and it was so beautiful. The fish in the picture are what I decided to pick up, and are still thriving. I live about 1 hour and 30 minutes from there so we don't get to go often, but when we do, I'm stoked. But even if you don't buy anything, it's still a wonderful trip with the family and I hope to be here soon. Note: If there were one thing I would change would be the price, and that's all. Pricey, but worth it.

This place is magical. Beautiful birds, fish and reptiles, friendly staff, and an indoor waterfall where you can feed giant fish

Do they carry cages small enough for mice?

Yes I believe they do have cages of many sizes for sale and if they don't have it in stock they'll order it for you.

First off, they had the harnesses I was looking for. Second,…read morethere was a clerk, Jenna. This gal was aces. She saw I was waiting and left the product she was working with to assist me. She listened, walked me to the item, then went right back to the spare register to assure I was helped right away. This young woman had a great personality, she reacted to our conversation, she was wonderful. I would highly recommend this store and if you're lucky, Jenna will be working.

1 star for highly unethical business practices, consumer fraud, severe animal neglect, and blatant…read morediscrimination at this Saginaw Hwy location. This store sells unestablished newborn Ball Pythons that are critically underweight--my baby weighed only 76 grams upon purchase--without providing proper safety guidance or adequate starter food. I spent a grueling week via email demanding an appropriate food size (pinkies/fuzzies between 4-8 grams). Store Manager Wesley deliberately dragged her feet and delayed the process for an entire week. She refused to provide clear sizes or prices over messages, forcing me to "just come in." Once I firmly stated I wouldn't show up blindly, she finally disclosed the price ($1.99 + tax, totaling $2.11) and attempted to force a massive 14-15 gram live rodent onto my 76g baby. A rodent that size could severely injure or kill a newborn Ball Python. In her follow-up email, she wrote: "it is waiting for you." This felt like a deliberate attempt to provide dangerous supplies for a fragile animal. The entire email chain is saved as evidence. The in-store management is completely unacceptable. On July 20th, I arrived at exactly 13:33 (the encounter occurred between 13:30 and 13:40). Two cashiers in blue shirts were working without mandatory name tags. Furthermore, I am a foreigner, and as soon as they heard my accent, their demeanor shifted into open hostility, impatience, and clear discrimination. The first cashier (heavy-set woman) subjected me to a runaround, claiming she didn't know where the manager was and sending me to search the floor herself. During my search, staff remarks openly revealed that Store Manager Wesley completely abandons her post and is a ghost who is never physically present on-site--completely missing even to the people who work under her direct supervision. When I returned to the registers, a second employee (tall, fit blonde with long hair in a ponytail, roughly a US size 12/14, no name tag) joined the first cashier. The two cashiers, clearly acting as the main instigators, then staged a cheap, pathetic performance. They suddenly pulled out the container with the live feeder, widened their eyes in mock surprise, and looked inside, dramatically gesturing and exclaiming, "Oh yes, this is it! This is exactly what you were looking for!" As an avid movie enthusiast who knows good acting from bad, and as a mother with years of sharp intuition, I instantly saw right through their ridiculous act. It was a calculated ploy to lower my guard. Immediately after this act, the heavy-set cashier aggressively tried to forcefully push the sale through, scanning the container without even asking if I still wanted it or if I had changed my mind. They aggressively tag-teamed and ganged up on me, using intimidation tactics to force me into buying the live feeder blindly, refusing to let me inspect its size first until I loudly and firmly stood my ground. Their coordinated aggression felt deeply rooted in prejudice against me as a non-native speaker. The first cashier tried to scan it three separate times with her hands shaking violently while acting out Wesley's vindictive orders. Store Manager Wesley has turned this location into an undisciplined, leaderless mess that tolerates toxic behavior, extreme incompetence, and customer bias. I am submitting this precise timeline, descriptions, and reports of discriminatory treatment directly to CEO Brannon Dixon and state animal control to pull the security footage for July 20th. Reptile lovers and advocates against discrimination, please stand up against this! What is even worse is the ongoing jurisdictional ping-pong and absolute silence between our local Ingham and Eaton county animal control departments, who hide behind automated email filters while existing on our tax dollars. It seems nobody is checking this place at 6201 W Saginaw Hwy. If you care about animal welfare, stop sleeping! We need to heavily flood higher oversight authorities with complaints until these local departments finally do their jobs.
