Amazing 1st time experience. They were understanding and gentle (with me being nervous). My dog took to them very quickly. They called when they had an alternative plan for drying my dog as the blow dryer was making him anxious, which was greatly appreciated. Well, I tried taking my Goldendoodle to a new Groomer here in Lansing.... (OLD TOWN TAILS). I called and asked for a bath and was charged $150!!! My dog had just been groomed two weeks prior and was in normal condition. I have never paid more than $84 for a bath in Los Angeles, Miami or Chicago and never more than $124 for a full grooming. I called the owner to see if we could resolve this and I was basically told to deal with it, and then I was told it was miscommunication and we received a 6 hour full grooming. I used them three times, it was the second worst grooming she ever received and almost double for any bath I have ever paid. New customer, never again customer! I run a cafe here in Lansing and I coach at MSU - so I will be sure to put the word out! I guess thats why the owner drives $130,000 SUV! Terrible Groomer. Awful Pricing. The owner is what is wrong with this business truly as you can see from the other one star reviews. I called on a Monday to cancel a Tuesday appointment and was told I would be charged $60 for cancelling less than 24 hours in advance, even though conveniently that policy isn't posted anywhere on their online presence from what I can see. The only reason I was having to cancel was because of an issue relating to my dad's health that was occurring at the same time. I asked if they would be willing to waive the fee this one time as I had forgotten about this appointment until I received the reminder text on the Sunday morning prior. And then when I looked it up after receiving the text, it said that they were closed on Sunday so I assumed there would be no one at the store. So that's why I called Monday. Well apparently as a customer we are supposed to magically know that the owner is there on Sunday to take calls. And this is my thing, I work customer service, if the owner had politely just said sorry we don't make exceptions it would have been fine and I would have been a bit upset but her instant defensiveness and rudeness was a complete turn off and what made me decide to never go back there. I tried explaining to her what had happened and she instantly cut me off and was totally dismissive. I understand not bending policy but to talk to anyone the way she did was disgusting. I'll never step foot in there again and encourage no one else too either. It seems they get a lot of cancellations based on their Facebook but I can understand based on the owner's response. Hope losing the business of grooming two dogs (and hopefully more from people reading the negative reviews) was worth the $60 and a little bit of kindness. read more

Old town tails folks are the sweetest. The owner treats your dog as her own, and even has veterinarian suggestions along with other training suggestions if you dog is difficult at all. I have an 8 pound shihtzu who is good but she can be difficult when it comes to touching her face. I'm sure it varies but her Grooms or no more than $40-$45 , in and out within an hour but if u need more time they're not bad about watching your dog for a sec if u need a little longer. Really beautiful inside, CLEAN, and has different crates if your dogs need to be separated. Love it, I go here every few weeks for my Lola. She's also super experienced with the big dogs too so have no fear. read more

Such an amazing experience! I just moved from out of state and was extremely nervous about finding a new groomer. My dog is extremely anxious and scared of other dogs and Old Town Tails was more than accommodating. They have a separate grooming room for anxious dogs that is away from a lot of the other dogs and noise. They made a genuine effort to make sure that my dog was comfortable with the staff that would be working with her and with the salon itself. I took my dog to Old Town tails to get her nails trimmed. I guess it was the owner that had nothing but condescending remarks and a bad attitude and acted like I didn't know my dog or how to treat or handle dogs in general. I will be 62 years old this fall and have had dogs ever since I was 5. I trained my dog myself she is very well trained and very well behaved but like most 130 lb dogs they don't like their feet to be touched especially their hind feet. You would think a groomer who grooms and trims large dogs would know that. But that was just the first thing that happened to where I knew I'd never take my dog back there again. While I was waiting to check out and take my dog home I observed the owner I would guess that's who she is, brushing out the hair on the top of the head of a beautiful chocolate colored standard poodle. She had the dog's muzzle in her left hand with the web of her thumb and forefinger across the dog's nose the bridge on top of the muzzle and was pushing down while taking her right hand with the wire bristle brush and was yanking this poor dog's hair it was obvious the hair was not going to go through the bristles but yet she pulled and pulled to where the poor dogs skin looked like it was going to pull right off from her body the dog's body. And she kept doing this and doing this over and over again how many times did she need to do that to realize that wasn't going to work and she's a groomer!?! Even I know poodles hair is hard to come out you take it in sections and you start at the ends and comb inward toward the scalp I'm not a groomer but I know that much and I've never owned a poodle but it was pretty obvious to me that's what needed to be done. Then of course she had the condescending remarks about about the owner of the dog about how she needed to take better care of her animal and needed to keep this brushed out and that she was going to have to call the dog's Mama because she couldn't deal with this. I felt so sorry for that dog you can't tell me that did not hurt that dog. The way she was grabbing the dog's muzzle with her hand and pushing down on the bridge of its nose while yanking on the hair on the top of this poodle's head I stood there just days it was unbelievable that this lady did not know what she was doing. I wanted to say something right then and there and I probably should have but I really didn't want to get into this lady that's how mad I was about the situation. Because I stand up for dogs and animals against cruelty and this lady is nothing but cruel to this dog. I hope whoever owns that beautiful chocolate colored standard poodle reads this because and gets a hold of me somehow I would leave my number here but I'm not going to do that people I'm sure are friends with this lady I can't even understand why her employees work for. She had nothing but condescending remarks and the sideway glances and the you know I could not work for a woman like that I swear. But please if you are the owner of a beautiful chocolate color brown standard poodle and you take I believe it was a male but I'm not sure and you take him to this Old Town tails grooming don't take him back she's very cruel to your dog and I don't know if it's just your dog or what but this lady does not know what she's doing when it comes to grooming hard to groom dogs. I will never go back there if it's the last place on Earth and I will be sure to tell my friends and everyone I know to not take their animals there they will not be treated well at all if the owner deals with them I didn't have a problem with the employees but that lady was the owner I have a problem with her. read more
