I purchased a Hearthstone propane style gas stove from Preston Trading Post. I sourced several vendors before making my final decision. I worked Creg in selecting the stove and fealt confident in his ability to provide me with the best product to suit my needs. Creg informed me that I needed to have the installer inspect and report back what type of pipe connection I required before i could purchase the stove. There are many y moving parts to the installation. The prepping of the pad for the propane tank, along with several inspections before the stove can be installed. The stove was ordered along with all the parts necessary based on the inspection by the installer. That was November, 3 weeka larer the stove was delivered with the parts. Two months later, I am scheduled for the install and it turns out that there are missing parts to the order. Preston had the stove delivered without parts that are back-ordered. They now tell me that they don't know when the parts will be in. This was all beknownst to me. I removed the wood stove, I installed new tile on the back wall and on a new platform for the gas stove, and I don't have a back up source for heat in the winter in CT. I am waiting for a call back with an explanation as to why I received a stove without all the parts. read more

I went to Preston Trading Post to look at livingroom furniture. As soon as I walked in Tammy met me with a warm greeting and listened to what I was looking for. She spent a lot of time learning what style of furniture I liked and steered me in the direction of a great quality sofa. I would say the most impressive thing that meant the most was when I was looking at books and books of fabric which took a few hours, she didn't put any pressure to speed it up . I bought a QuadFire pellet stove for my RI house, and then another when I moved to RI. PTP was very patient in holding the stove while my closing was delayed and while figuring out where it would go. Today I had a tech issue, and Kerry talked me through the solution, joined by Joe the owner. The stove is working great now. We first bought a wood stove here. The transaction went very well. Customer service in that department was exceptional. Wanted to continue supporting small, local business. Should have stopped with stove. Furniture department totally different story! It was the worse experience we have ever had in over 45 years of purchasing furniture. Poor communication, unfulfilled promised, damaged items & no follow through. Spent over $7000.000, which needed to be paid in advance. After waiting 13 months without receiving merchandise we are still told we can not receive a refund. Will NEVER use or recommend furniture department! Bought a cute galvanized bucket table. I left it in the car for 2 weeks. When I finally brought it in the house one of the legs was broken. I decided to just bring it there so they could see what the problem was. Tammy was great! Exchanged the table for me right then. Then a nice man took out the one in my car and put in the new one. This afternoon I called the Preston Trading Post to check the availability of pellet stoves. The purpose of my call was that we live an hour away and I didnt want to make a wasted trip if they didn't have any to choose from. I spoke with Tammy who stated that she works in the furniture department, but she knew that they carry several different high end brands of stoves and that they had many in stock citing they had anticipated a huge demand for stoves seeing that oil prices were so high. She took my name and number and said she would look forward to seeing me in person. My wife and I then drove an hour and arrived at the store. The same women I had spoken too on the phone, Tammt, greeted me at the front desk and said are you the person who called. I replied yes and she asked the owner of the store, Joe, to help us in chosing a stove. Joe brought us to the back of the store, which appeared to be an employee only area at first. It was cluttered with broken and disassembled stoves. Joe showed us several different models and after hearing the pros and cons of each stove we decided on one particular one which was about 2000. I explained that I wished to have the stove for the weekend and that I planned on installing it myself. Joe checked his inventory and found he had none in stock. However, he stated that he had 9 coming in either later in the day or the following day. I told him that I would take one when it came in and asked for him to call me upon its arrival. Joe said, "Yeah that's probably not going to happen." I was caught off guard and he went on to explain that he was too busy to call people and that he was short staffed. Joe then wished for me to pay upfront for the stove. If I didn't pay upfront, he wasn't interested in selling me the stove. I was shocked and I was frankly caught off guard with this demand and he could now tell I was hesitant in buying a stove from him. The owner then said he wanted to show me something and he brought me in the stock room and showed me a warehouse filled with various stoves. He then bragged "This is what we do", "we sell 100's of stoves a day" and indicated they don't have time to be making phone calls to people who in essence haven't paid upfront. The owner was so rude, my wife and I decided to leave and look elsewhere. I was genuinely looking forward to having a great experience. On the way home, I called Tammy back from the furniture dept who I had spoken with earlier. She had overheard the owner being short with us. I explained that we were sort of upset with the situation and the level of customer service we received. Tammy surprisingly doubled down and defended the owner and went on a tirade about how they can't find anyone to work and how the owner and others have to personally unload trucks and how they are operating with a skeleton crew and how I was being unreasonable wanting a stove 5 days before Christmas. I explained that I wanted to buy an in stock stove, have it loaded in my truck, pay cash, and then install it myself. My concern now was that if this was the level of customer service I was getting before the sale, what could I expect after the sale. I then ended the conversation with her and came to the conclusion that Preston Trading Post was not worthy of my business. read more

We had the best experience buying furniture with Preston Trading. Tammy is very knowledgeable, has impeccable taste, and always courteous. Joe was wonderful to work with. Over the past few years we bought a sofa, a sleeper sofa, a bookcase, some occasional tables, and a mattress. We were unhappy with the wear on one of the sofas and Tammy and Joe went out of their way to ensure we ended up with an amazing replacement. Communication is always immediate and spot on. I wasn't going to post anything but Joe just had to pick up the phone and make the call to tell me that the furniture FINALLY came in.... amazing I have received more calls from the staff AFTER we cancelled the order. So here you go Joe.... The staff was very nice and helpful, however the owner well that's another story. We ordered furniture from them in October. It is now April, 6 months later. We were told original delivery was supposed to be January, then February, then March, now end of April. Joe was combative from the start of our conversation, I wasn't blaming him or his staff I was aggravated with El Ran the furniture maker. It was excuse after excuse about Covid blah blah Ice storm in Texas was impacting foam delivery. He just kept blathering on, I wasn't holding him accountable and just wanted them to hold the manufacturer accountable and cancel that order. Finally he decided to tell me he didn't want to do business with me, he has $300,000 out in orders blah blah, he has been doing this business for 40 years. I guess I was supposed to be impressed.... too bad I'm not. I think he even asked what I do for a living... WTF does that have to do with anything? How about you give a crap about your customers and not defend the suppliers you clown. Again I was going to let it go, but you couldn't help yourself could you... that voicemail reminded me of the guy walking around with shit in his hand showing everyone what he almost stepped in. read more

Our experience with Preston Trading Post has been excellent. We had some difficulties with the first pellet stove we purchased due to an incompetent installer. They gave us a great deal on a new stove and went above and beyond to get it up and running. This meant taking parts off a Showroom model when the manufacturer couldn't send the part we needed for another two weeks and for having an excellent relationship with Mike's Chimney Services, who serviced our stove after hours during their busy season. I went to Preston Trading Post to check out wood burning fireplace inserts. I had a 2009 model that I wanted to replace and PTP had 3 models that interested me. I spoke to a guy who gave me some valuable information and he gave me brochures on the 3 units that were on display. I also spoke to Kerry Norton who gave me her business card. I researched the 3 models and decided on the Quadra-Fire. I sent an email to Kerry telling her I wanted the Quadra-Fire and I included the measurements of my fireplace using the form that was given to me when I was there. My email also included a couple simple questions. I didn't hear back so after about 5 days I sent a follow-up email. I didn't hear back so I called. The person I spoke to said Kerry was with a customer so I explained about the 2 emails and why I needed to talk to Kerry regarding some of the measurements listed on the form. I was told that Kerry would get back to me. She never did so I went to a place in Vernon that sells the Quadra-Fire and I purchased the unit I wanted. I have no clue as to why my emails and phone call were ignored. It's a strange way to run a business. read more

Had a very negative experience at this store. Went in to buy a woodstove, as advertised on website, for under 1000. The young new bald salesman who first helped us was very polite. His boss never smiled, was rude and condescending. He was short with us and when my husband tried to negotiate price he rudely said " this conversation is over." He could have politely explained that was the best he could do which would have been fine. He had a negative attitude with us right from the beginning. If he doesn't want to attract people who want to buy a product for less than 1000 don't advertise for that! I have never been talked to so rudely by someone trying to sell a product. It was very disturbing. Unfortunately my husband got angry and called him several vulgar names on his way out the door which I don't condone but there was no excuse for the way he treated us. Be careful what you buy. No refunds once you realize they charged more than twice the price you can get the item for elsewhere. I hope my mistake is fair warning to others. UPDATE: Most establishments want to work with their customers if they were not satisfied. This owner reluctantly agreed to refund only the cost of the can of paint and only after much discussion and resistance. All of the owner's comments telling me the paint was sold at a hardware store for $10 and warned me not to buy it is complete nonsense. Buyer beware. read more

I was looking for replacement parts for wood stove pipes and the accessories that go with it so I went locally to Preston Trading Post. I told the sales lady that I wanted to purchase 7"X 3' stove pipe and she directed me to the pipes to the right of the display. I also inquired about other connections for the pipes and she gave me appropriate advice (at least that's what I thought). After purchase I went to do the job and discovered that I brought 8" pipe with connections. This could have been averted if I was given closer consultation (I don't do this for a living and she certainly wasn't that busy to take the time to make sure I had the right parts). No matter. Why I'm writing my first social media complaint is because of how the return transaction when down. When I brought back the 8" pipe I said to the saleslady that I originally brought from "You sold me 8" pipe and I wanted 7" pipe" I never got an apology and my girlfriend told me the girl that cashed me out rolled her eyes (It's a good thing I didn't see that because there would have been hell to pay). I've gotten better respectful service everywhere else I've patronized (from D&D to purchasing a car and everything in-between). Yes, She did take the initiative to get me the proper pipes and couplings afterwards and the rest of my purchase transactions went smoothly. They claim to deliver more than anyone in the U.S....who knows; the point is, they do have a great selection and knowledgable staff; they will give you a straight answer as to what it costs to install - the chimney set-ups can get expensive depending on your home, and they won't mislead you.
