This place gets brownie points for the following: 1) Having "my" brand of sangria cheaper than Binny's. 2) Having Robert The Bruce beer when Binny's didn't. 3) Letting me take some of their empty boxes when I was moving. 4) Carrying fresh limes all summer so you don't have to go back to the grocery store. 5) Knowing the difference between rum and cachaca. 6) I can ride my bike to here from my home! I do it for the exercise and to save gas, but I'll let everybody keep thinking that I bike to liquor stores because my license was taken away because of, um, my frequent visits to liquor stores. I like Binny's, but this is closer, has a great selection, and has better pricing on some items. I lately only go to Binny's for particular beers that Prestige doesn't always have, or has in limited quantities that may disappear quickly, like Sam Adams Blackberry Witbier. I took one star away because there seem to be some rude customers there pretty often; the kind of people who smash their car door into other people's doors and then yell at the person in the car they smashed like it was their fault for having the stupidity and audacity to park in their vicinity. Also, the parking lot can be a bitch to get out of if you drive. Also, I like that they card religiously, but there's this ONE GUY who likes to scrutinize the ID's of old ladies to make them feel young and beautiful or something, even if there's a line. Hey man, if you wait much longer, she's going to die before she can get home and drink that wine cooler. Really, though, I love this place. A friend of mine recently visited Ireland and raved of how during her trip she tried banana bread beer. Holy crap, yes, such a thing exists ^_^ In a fit of intrigue, yearning, and jealousy, I urgently got on the interwebz and used my keen investigatory abilities in order to find a place where i could get my desirous lil' hands on some bottles. The interwebz pointed me out to Prestige and minutes later i was in my car ready to go. Compared to other liquor stores, Prestige is on the smaller size, but it packs a big punch in terms of their craft and specialty beer selection. The place was clean, organized, and the guy in front of the counter was really helpful in terms of helping me find what i was looking for. The beer gods must have been looking out for me because i managed to snatch the last bottle of Wells Banana Bread Beer which cost around $5. I browsed their selection to see if i there was anything else cool to buy and hell yes there was. TONS of lefthand,Three Floyds, Lagunitas products, lots of interesting specialty porters, stouts, i found a creme brulee beer, a vanilla beer, AND i ended up purchasing a bottle of oatmeal stout. Came in looking for a small bottle of something fun for a gift. Language Barrier!!! They have a bin of small vodka bottles near the register, so I asked the woman working there if they have any other small bottles of liquor. "No, no small bottles." You have these vodka bottles, and I'd like this size, but with other liquors. "Oh, you want vodka?" No, other types of vodka, for a gift, for someone who loves liquor but not vodka. "No, no bottles." On the way out, I see a sine for wine tastings each week. I turned around and asked her about the wine tastings. "No, no wine tasting." I showed her the sign, and she said again "No." Maybe a nicely stocked little liquor store, but too much work to get what I want. My fiancé and I dined at Owen & Engine in the city and really enjoyed the Belhaven Black Scottish Stout, which they had on tap. Belhaven is one of Scotland's oldest regional breweries and has been around since 1719. The stout is flavored with roast coffee and chocolate. Coffee and chocolate are pretty much my two favorite things ever. Combine that with Scottish water and triple malts and you've got a winner. You can really taste the coffee and chocolate in the beer. Also, I enjoyed how it did not taste hoppy. It also has a low ABV (4.2%), which is great for lightweights (aka: me). Anyway, we both wanted to buy the beer to enjoy at home. I hopped online and found it at Prestige, which was the closest location to us. It's a bit far, but we stopped by my favorite ice cream place is Mt. Prospect so the trip was worth it. If you're looking for it, you will find it in the coolers alongside one of their side walls. It's sold in a 4-pack of 16oz cans for $9.99. They also sell the Scottish Ale Draught, which has a nutty flavor and 5.2% ABV. That's also sold in 4 cans (16oz) for $9.99. For best taste, the cans recommend that you should chill the beer for 3 hours. We tried the beer later that evening and it tasted just as good as I remembered from the restaurant, if not better. My fiancé likens it to Guinness, but better. He's not a fan of how hoppy beers make him feel after, and he enjoyed the stout for those reasons. As for the liquor store, it was somewhat small, but the selection is good. They carry many varieties of imported and domestic beers. The man working on the Saturday afternoon when we visited was very friendly and willing to help. He even located our beer for us since we could not find it. He joked around with us about my age when we checked out. He guessed my age to be 16. I laugh sand told him that I'm way older than that. That prompted him to guess that I was 17 and a half. Of course, a true woman never admits her true age so he didn't get my real number. Overall, excellent experience. Unfortunately, Prestige is a bit far out for us, but I'd definitely come back to buy more Belhaven. read more

Best liquor store in the area. Has a great selection of beer. It's nice how you can physically see all the beer they have. Unlike Binnys where you have to ask because all the limited releases are hidden away in the back. The employees here and very knowledgable and friendly. Top notch liquor store when it comes to variety and service. Friendly knowledgable staff that goes above and beyond customer requests. A true gem of a store when it comes to Craft Beer. Seriously, one entire door of the cooler has all craft CANED beer. The wines never stay the same, always changing it up and keeping it fresh. Beers are about $1-$2 more expensive than other places that sell crafts, Hoptimum is $10.99 compared to $9.99 elsewhere, Big John is $11.99 compared to $9.99 elsewhere, and they did try selling me a Straffe Quadrupel limited for $30 when it's about $25.99 at Binny's. Can't fork up $24.99 for BCS Coffee when it should only be about $19.99 (Liquor Barn) Prices aside, it's a great place to get some good beers after 9pm. Clean and great selection. read more

Best liquor store in Des Plaines. I have been going here for about 4 years since I moved into the area. The benefit of this over Binny's on Golf is that, although the selection is limited at Prestige in comparison to Binny's, EVERYTHING they carry is good (at least beer wise, I couldnt speak to the wine selection, although it looks good.) The guys that work here are extremely kind and knowledgeable as well. They recenly hooked me up with a case of O'Fallon pumpkin beer. They also consistenly have a wide selection of Lagunita's, which is my standard 'go-to'. Their selection of 22's and bombers is also relatively extensive.
