Cardinal Liquors in North Hoffman Estates is one of the better small liquor stores I've been to.

Prices are not the cheapest, but in line with what you'd expect to pay in downtown Arlington Heights. Service is friendly, and fairly quick even when they get a rush of visitors during beautiful summer afternoons. For those looking for something different like trivia or board games, they do have special nights here and Meetup Groups that hold special events here from time to time.

The inside is small, so this is great for a group of 4 or less ideally - but they really do make the most out of their space. There's lots of seating around the bar. When it's nice out, they also open the outside area for even more seating, which is nice to see. What I didn't love is that most of the chairs are those godforsaken metal chairs that anyone over 30 years old most likely has beef with (or is it just me?). also adding, this may have just been the time we went but oh god there were so many kids running around in there. It honestly took away from the vibe. With the kids and the chairs, we unfortunately could only do one drink here. Would love to check it out when it's more of an adults only time.

Opening up a liquor store so close to my apartment? This must be an omen. It was rumored that this…read moreplace was going to open for several months before it actually came to fruition. The word is that ownership ran into difficulties from the village which delayed things significantly. The space was formerly operated by a pet groomer who has since relocated to a larger space up on Higgins. The strip mall itself was given a huge face lift in the last year, with a resurfaced parking lot and updated facades for all the buildings. This was obviously an attempt to attract new tenants, which seems to be paying off. Being the nosy person that I am, I just had to poke my head in on the day they finally opened their doors for business. They completely remodeled the inside, and the beer coolers, wine racks, and shelving all looked brand new. The gentleman behind that counter, who I also suspect is the owner, was a really nice guy who I got to chat with briefly. While I guess the neighborhood did not really "need" a liquor store, and there is a 7-11 literally right next door, this does fill void for me personally for a couple of reasons. The 7-11 next door is pretty much useless to me these days for alcohol purchases. I am over the phase in my life where I am buying 30 racks of Milwaukee's Best and cheap bottles of rot gut, which is about all that can be found there. This new establishment is quite well stocked in all of the typical top shelf brands you would expect, along with various single malt scotches and other ultra premiums. This saves me the trouble of having to head to Mariano's if I have people over and need some provisions. They also have a huge walk in beer cooler with a robust selection to cater to the IPA and craft beer crowd. I wish there was a little more variety for my personal favorite, stouts, but that is just me being picky. Prices here are a good 15-20% less than you would pay at Mariano's by my estimation, and since it is so close to my apartment, I have little doubt that they will earn my businesses for the foreseeable future.

The deal is half off apps, but if you enjoy an adult beverage, the house-brewed drafts are also half off. M-Th 3-6pm, dine-in only. At least that's what it is right now. I feel like it changes, so maybe call beforehand to confirm. I only got pics of the nachos this time, which really doesn't do it full justice because they're bigger than they look in the photo. Food is always good and consistent, there's nothing really to complain about regarding service or prices, and parking has always been really easy, though that could be because we typically go on Tuesdays. I imagine weekends could be a little bit busier, but the place is pretty big, so even if you have to wait, I don't think that you'd be waiting that long. The vibe is also casual and low-key.

I had been here with my daughter about 12 years ago and remembered enjoying it then. We all had burgers and craft beer. My friends went with the Mad Max (burger of the month) and I went with a peppercorn and blue cheese burger. It was thumbs up for all of us on the burgers as well as the beer, which was unique and delicious. I took no pictures that day and just enjoyed the outing with friends, but I was especially impressed with the taste of my burger. I abstained from adding any of my usual condiments, and decided to try it as is, with just their sauce. Best decision ever! The sauce was amazing and the burger was cooked a perfect medium. Like many restaurants, Luck Monk offers their regular menu, plus flyers on their specials, including beers and cocktails. Four days later, I went right back there again on my own, to formally review it with photos. I had to go with that same peppercorn burger, because it was just so good, and to make sure the first time was a fluke. It wasn't. I tried out their chili as well, which was also good. This chef knows what he is doing. This stand alone restaurant is easy to get to, and has ample parking. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful and looks high end, though I found the pricing to be reasonable. It would be a great spot to take clients for a business lunch. It's elegant looking , but unpretentious. The hostess and servers are wonderful. I highly recommend the Lucky Monk!
