He casually and invitingly asks "Do you want a haircut?" I paused in my tracks.. thought to myself how I actually do need one.. and said "Sure, let's do it!" Now I had no previous knowledge of Razor MD or of George, so naturally I was a little nervous getting a haircut without checking what my fellow Yelpers had to say.. but his confidence really put me at ease. They are a family shop, his uncle and nephew also own the place. George commutes every day from Flushing so you have to commend that kind of dedication. Not only is he super skilled with a pair of scissors, razor, and buzzers, but he is both super efficient and very funny. He reminds of my grandpa's barber, who still cuts to this day over in Queens. Old school, charming, and laid back. We both talked about life, our backgrounds, relationships, you name it. To top it off, he even styled my hair better than I ever could! I had a work dinner to attend to later that evening and to be honest, I didn't even go home to shower as I didn't want to ruin it (plus there was no need as he did a great job cleaning any loose hairs up). I'm brand new to the area, having just moved to nearby Baldwin Harbor, so it feels good to have gotten so lucky, so fast. Thank you George for coming out of your store to invite in me. You weren't kidding, you are indeed amongst the best of the best barbers! Especially the hair dresser with the bright pink hair (didn't get her name) who did a wonderful job with my 4 year old - both in haircut and in managing her and keeping her engaged! My 2 year old is a WRECK during haircuts and although she screams and fights, they still did a good job with her bangs. The 2nd time we went, we just popped in on a Saturday morning with no appointment and they were very accommodating. Again, the 2 ladies managing them were good and the other customers were even very kind about my shrieking 2 year old! I was stressed about it but they all made me feel ok. This is also a reasonably priced place. Price = age of your kid + $7! Much better than the "children's hair salons" which charge $25-$30 per kid. Perhaps Gemini could charge a little less for just cutting bangs, but since my kid was shrieking so much I didn't mind! I'll be going there next for my own haircut.

The first couple of salons I called were rude and abruptly said they wouldn't be able or interested in doing cut for my Grandmother. I was kind of in shock the way some folks would turn away business like that. Luckily I called Gemini V and Linda, the proprietor of the salon, picked up the phone. She understood exactly what I was looking for - a somewhat old school beauty parlor that knew what older gals from Long Island are looking for in a haircut and could also give me stylish cut suitable for NYC life. Linda could not have been more accommodating and did a *great* job doing my Grandma's hair exactly as she likes it! She has trouble walking and helped her get about the salon while I was getting my hair done... and she's still raving about the cut she received. Alexis gave my hair a spunky, short and tousled cut that's cute and easy to style. It was a fantastic afternoon and we'll definitely be back :-)

I had not made an appointment, but my wait did not last more than five minutes. The establishment is spacious and there were several barbers working on their craft while amicably chatting with their clients. Since I had not been to a barber in several years, I was a little apprehensive about whether I could communicate clearly what it was that I wanted. I visited the Greg Alphonse Salon by a friend's recommendation of stylist Dominique. I have been to…read moremany salons and private stylists for most of my life and today's experience was the most successful and stress free of all. This salon is Full SERVICE and they exemplify that. I have a collection of horror stories of the different experiences I've had visiting salons and this experience was so different and it started with their professional phone etiquette and booking system. I called and the receptionist kindly informed me that my stylist was not working for the day, she then explained that she would have her contact me directly to book with her using her online system. She took under 30 minutes to get back to me. I scheduled a 9:30 for this morning and was done before 12:30. Dominique was punctual and very professional. I have thick coily natural hair. The whole experience was seamless! She washed my hair thoroughly and used the correct temperatures throughout this stage. She then advised that we avoid using a hooded dryer for my protein treatment. She did not overuse products on my hair. Less is more here. I was detangled precisely. No pulling. No yanking. My blow out was perfection. No excessive heat and she is skilled with the wire brush ! She assessed my hair and advised on a asymmetrical Bob hair cut to eliminate the broken ends. I trusted her advice and agreed. I was sad to see my length go but happy to start a new hair journey in GROWING HANDS. Dominique is the female Edward "SZA Hands". She is skilled with a pair of shears ! I've been looking for someone who knows how to cut hair professionally for a while now. She took her time cutting. She did not rush the process to start on another client. She respects her clients, their time and investment. I love my layers ! I love the definition of this style ! I've received so many compliments on my new Doo. Dominique does it all. Such a talent here at this salon. I love that she educates you on hair care, consults humbly, discusses the process and is knowledgeable. Finally someone who knows what they're doing behind a chair. The salon is very comfortable and CLEAN. I love the comfortable wash chairs with neck pillows in the sink !!!! They played relaxing yet upbeat music. There were no crowds or rowdy people having conversations in the morning. I can't wait to book another follow up appointment. For the first time, in a long time I'm so happy with my hair.
